Mama Pritchard, the 368-pound, mature female loggerhead sea turtle, is the first turtle released this season on Saturday, April 17 at the Isle of Palms County Park. Mama Pritchard was brought into the Sea Turtle Hospital by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) on July 7, 2008 weighing 330 pounds.

OMG! This is awesome. Thanks for helping our sea turtles. Feels good to see a group of persons caring for our nature treasures. Me encanta. I wish i could be part of the group
Good work! Here's an idea. When you are attending the mass hatchings, why not fly toy kites with eagle images on them? They should be cheap to buy. My guess if that, during daylight at least, it might discourage local seagulls somewhat.
i love this!!! its so great to see people helping these creatures!!! My heart goes out to you for all the effort you put in and time, its marvellous!!!
Now this is what I needed to see before work! My heart wells up with pride while watching these turtles being helped...if only someone this compassionate was there for that poor turtle caught in the Gaza strip.
Hmmm, generally I'd agree with your principle, but unfortunately man has tipped the scales for creatures like turtles so that normal evolution is not working. Leatherbacks have been around for millions of years, effective and strong, but won't be here in 20 years without protection and help. Not trying to be contentious, just throwing in ideas.
they are so sweet looking and helpless. I love em. I cant stand to they they are being hurt or anything bad happening to them! good job!!!!!!! They need you!!! :)
When they found her she was stuck in what they call a tidel pool. Here in South Carolina in turtle season we get these weird things during full moons called spring tides which very from 7 feet to 10 feet. So she got stuck in a deep "puddle" and tide had already made it's way out to sea. She would have been stuck in that puddle for 6 hours had they not released her. Wow. sorry that comment was so long. And a female that age weighs about 300 to 400 pounds.

I hatch! Crawl! And swim!
Oh how I love my sweet life,
Turtles are special.

guys take into consideration that weak species extinct until a stronger version comes up. This is what evolution is all about.
