Bandai has made a Celestial Being and federation base which my friend has. I also remember a dude making a beautiful Orb base from seed...

When I first saw these emblem-type action bases, I had thought of doing the same thing.

I'd have probably just used a regular gold spray paint, though, so I'm sure it wouldn't have turned out as good as this, which indeed looks very natural.

Depending on my modeling plans in the future, I may want to pick one of these up in the future.
