Nice video but just a few corrections - the Ramones were not the fathers of punk - they came from an already established NY underground music scene in the early 70s Id give it to The Stooges 71 , NY Dolls (72), Patti Smith, (73) Voidoids (75). Also, Hollywood poser bands like MCR & Green Day play nice little pop fixes which are ok until they claim to actually be punk and then they reek. Punk died in the 80s Phil Spector, M. Mclaren, British pinhead punkers and MTV New Wavers destroyed it.

though in the 90s it also branched off into stuff like bad religion and old afi, different but still punk and still awesome. you could sort of make the case that green day/mcr are the mutant illigitimate grandchildren thrice removed of old punk, just because it branched off in so many directions for better or for worse

Well, you could make the opposite case too. I know these Hollywood punk bands like GD will claim they are credible proteges but they miss the point of punk, namely attacking music fashion mediocrity & giving hilariously odd kids a chance to vent. Saying your lyrics fast in Ramones rhythm, spiking your hair or throwing in the odd 4 letter word for cool effect isn't punk - its pop. If anything the goofy anti-folkers do a better job of carrying on the punk tradition than so-called post punkers.

i agree that green day isnt punk, but the stuff that other bands have done is pretty cool. a great example is bad religion, who's music is basically a headbanging yet intelligent middle finger to american morals and religion. i think the main reason its so cool is that they didn't try to be the ramones.
