Hello there gypsumF, you're probably long gone and not able to answer this but I am looking to buy a camera, that can take DoF/noise reduction, and all that jazz. I'm not the most camera technical guy, I am just looking for something to take pictures of(nice ones, not the handheld crappy ones) and upload them to my computer and edit them with photoshop.
I was thinking about the Canon 400D or the Nikon 40D, thanks if you do reply. It'd be really nice if you could reply in my Youtube account.
I am looking for a cheap macro lens for my Canon EOS 400D and have found EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM. I really like the close up images and want a good affordable result. What do you think about the lens?
Very nice commercial btw. Nice calming voice aswell.
I haven't used the EF-S 60mm macro lens as it is not compatible with the cameras I have. I use the MP-E65 f/2.8 1-5 x Macro and the EF100mm F2.8 USM Macro. However, from what I have seen on the web, many people speak very highly of it, and at £350 it is reasonably priced. I will get the chance to test it out in June, so feel free to email me after the 10th of that month and I will be able to give you a better idea then.
Sorry that you can't understand the words - it must be my accent eh! I have written out the words, and will post them here in two parts (YouTube only allows 500 characters per post). The words in the advert are from an interview the agency did with me that they cut together to fit the ad.
"I spend a lot of time during the day in front of a computer screen, and to get out and look at something different, something living, breathing just a few steps outside my back door is a breath of fresh air.
Photographing insects - it's a fantastic source of entertainment for me. I like getting in close, and I like seeing details that you don't normally see with the naked eye...
"... I'm fascinated by the way insects are put together - they look organic and mechanical at the same time. I am gobsmacked by just how detailed these things are. Just like us humans, no two insects look exactly alike, and that fascinates me. So it's like people watching, but on a real small scale. And, the fact that it's all just in my back garden is an incredible bonus."
Well, I hope you get as much fun out of it as I do mine, motorqir! Greece should give you plenty of subjects to point your lens at. I have been there a couple of times, and from what I can recall it is a most photogenic country :)
Hello, and thank you, LibertineBabyshamble! :) I am very pleased that you enjoyed your visit to my tiny garden. As for stopping, when and if I get to be so old that I no longer have the strength to hold a camera, then I might have to think about it ;)
I use a canon mp-e65 for really close up stuff and a canon 100mm for more general shots - both are macro lenses. If you want to see more pics then check out 'mytinygarden' (dot com, no spaces) for photos from the last three years!
I really like your pictures. I'm still saving up for the 400D but I think I still have a very long way to go. And thats you in the video ain't it?! :)
Thanks for your comment - I am delighted you like them. Keep saving, I am sure you won't be disappointed. And yes, it is me in the video. It's a year since it was filmed, and I still can't quite believe it! :)
I don't understand... there was no 'actor', it was me, in my back garden where I take the vast majority of the photos for my website. They filmed the advert on one day, and then came back and recorded an interview with me which they then overlayed onto the film footage. Sorry if what I said in the advert made you cringe - I was asked questions, and I responded as genuinely as I could!
Indeed, I don't! What I would say is that I can find few faults with three Canon cameras I do use. Family/friends have several models too, and again no complaints from any quarter...
So, would I recommend the 400D? Only on the strength of others in the Canon range! But I can't say definitively that it's good or bad, for the very reason you have pointed out. :)
I love this ad... it is sooo me, except my backyard isn't as funky, so I have to drive into the mountains for most of my bug-shots. (my bugs and spiders at stevenflanagan dot net)
do you have a website with your shots? Great macro work!

I wonder if the actor in this ad cringed when he heard if ever, the dialogue that was added to his photographed image!
I was gobsmacked too.
Cheers.

Ah, fantastic. It's funny that you don't actually use the 400D. Would you actually recommend that model?
