thanks ted i actually ended up replacing the faucet as it was leaking underneath The instructions are clear, the audio and visual are very good. Highly recommended.
thanks ted i actually ended up replacing the faucet as it was leaking underneath. Now the issue is that once I open the tap it start to slightly sink and reduce pressure. Is this normal?
@gmercado Take the o-ring off the bottom and flex it to look for cracks/cuts in it. Then put it back on, checking that the o-ring is down in the groove and that the area it seats against on the inside of the spout is not sharp or corroded. Make sure the spout is all the way down and the nut up top is tight...
But I have a question: What about the "diverter valve?"
Where is it, and how is it fixed or replaced? I've read that it might be causing my problem.
My faucet looks just like yours. It suddenly stopped working: water comes out the sprayer, but not the faucet. Same is true when aerator is removed.
I removed the faucet handle & spout, and out fell the remains of a little black rubber cup-shaped washer. I don't know where it came from, nor whether it's the culprit.
This is weird. My faucet's spout doesn't pass water!
It is a different style from yours. It is chrome on the top and sides, but black plastic on the bottom surface.
I can't blow air through it, in either direction. I even tried to blow it out (backward flow direction) with my air compressor, without success. I ran a wire up it in each direction, and the wire is blocked about 2" from the aerator end.
Is there some sort of valve in there? Do you have any idea what happened to it?
Well, I understand what happened to my spout, now. This spout had a diverter valve in it, actually mounted in the spout, as part of the spout. I little rubber cup-shaped washer gave up the ghost, and the plunger in the middle was flushed 3/4 of the way down the spout, where it lodged, blocking the water flow.
I managed to dislodge it, but in getting it out of the spout I've mangled the plastic seat.
If there's a way to replace the diverter valve in this spout, it's not obvious. Any ideas?
to anyone who has done this: I replaced the cartridge and reinstalled all the hardware. When I turned the water back on, the water would not shut off all the way. There was a tiny stream of water, not a drip. It seemed like the handle part didn't sit all the way down on the faucet and thus wouldn't push the piston all the way back down in the cartridge. If I loosen the nut on top, I can shut the water off by pushing that down. Does anyone have any advice on fixing that?
@wellalwayshaveparish Check if you got the loop (attached to the lever on the handle assembly) back into the groove on the top of the spout retaining nut when you put it back together. Also make sure the spout is all the way down and the retaining nut is down all the way. If there is crud in the threads it may seem tight but not really be down all the way.
@wellalwayshaveparish My spout, after replacing the cartridge and the O rings on the spout and greasing them with the pluimbers grease and after putting the lever back on - is still dripping and sometimes is a stream of water still coming out of the spouit. Do I need to replace the lever???
@hearthug8152 --- me again- or maybe I need to replace the screw on the top of the lever that turns the water on and off.. IF I push the lever down on top with my hand and hold it for a second or two - it will stop dripping or streaming. But that is aggravating - and I don't always have time to do that. Please help! Thank you
Excellent video, although I'm fairly handy (carpenter) I always have avoided plumbing like the plague. Using these two vdieos I managed to pick up the correct parts (in one trip) and repair our faucet. The clip even slid in easily, and it now seems to work like new. Thanks!
Send this video to the guys at Home Depot. Told me I needed a new cartridge and not the spout o rings. Replaced the spout o rings and faucet is great now. Excellent video!
I just reviewed Part 1 of the video - the Tabs of the cartridge align with the grooves of the receptacle - so I'm straight on that - Now - to watch the clip placement - one more time! :o)
Thanks for the video, for some reason my earlier post is NOT showing up. How essential is it to get the retaining clip back on the new cartridge. I can't get mine on.
@Candice157 You need the clip unless you like taking an impromptu shower in the kitchen. Put the white tool on the cartridge and press it down (use something flat on top like a block of wood if you need). When it seems like it is down all the way, use the wrench on the tool to turn the cartridge slightly each way until the clip will go into place.
@tedjar Thank you - I'm still working on it - The block of wood is a good idea. I felt like I was not getting the cartridge all they way down as far as it SHOULD go. I'm a confused about the CARTRIDGE tab/gap pair alignment with the receptacle tab/gap pair. If aligned correctly, looking down from top, it looks like an enclosed cylinder? The 2 cartridge tabs "fill in" the 2 receptacle gaps? I'll try again tomorrow. Your video is awesome! Simple, straightforward, to the point, clear video!
@gumbala5 Sorry, I'm not sure about the newer models. Moen has information on their website, go there and look up the model of your faucet. You can also call them and get parts that way.
Your videos are great. Two times I have had faucet problems and your videos helped me out. a month ago I had to replace cartridge and today I had to replace the 2 O-rings. Not sure why I didnt replace everything the 1st time I had it apart
Thank you. This was great to confirm that I'm doing my repair correctly and not missing any parts. I'm correcting the same issue, water leaking between base and bottom of spout. The homeowner before us must have first downed a six pack before doing any home repairs because most of the stuff around the house is missing little key items like washers, set screws and such. This confirmed that I have all the right parts! It's working great now. Thanks again.
@Tedjar, thank you! Perfect, simple video instructions for repairing, my son and I repaired our kitchen faucet by watching these two vidz and following them step-by-step, and voila! She is fixed! Much appreciated!
@Shadowhawk26 Did you replace the o rings? If you did that and it still leaks, check the surface where the o ring rubs on the inside. If it has big pits or corrosion try to clean it up....
Thanks for your vid! Very helpful *Bonus Side note about your speech patter*: If when you speak, you focus on your sound coming from your lips and the tip of your mouth, instead of your sound coming from the inside of your mouth, I think you will speak with more clarity.
This is a fantastic video. I was scratching my head at first when I tried to disassemble the faucet without directions. However the video was right on the mark. This saved me alot of aggravation. Thanks for the information.
@tedjar Many thanks for providing an excellent video that helped me to repair successfully my Moen Single Handle faucet. I went to Home Depot and got the washer (in plastic) and the O-ring free as these Moen parts have lifetime warranty. Bravo Moen!

@gmercado If it is a brand new cartridge or faucet it might do that a bit.... It usually stops after you use it for awhile.

@tedjar still happening...any ideas???

@gmercado Complain to the manufacturer since it's a new faucet with a warranty. Also Check if your water pressure is excessive.
