But ever since then, I've felt really lost and without direction. I don't know what to live for, and I get so afraid of death, and what will happen to me then, that it paralyses me in life. I feel like if I'm going to die, and if that's the end, then what's the point of life? I want to believe in an afterlife of some kind, but I'm afraid there'll just be nothing. I'd be interested in Skype coaching, if that's still available?
Hey Steve. I used to be a novice Buddhist monk, and was involved in a very cultlike Buddhist tradition. I left that life over 2 years ago now, but ever since I've been in a rut. I've been depressed and full of apathy. I used to really believe in all the buddhist "truths" I was told, but there came a point when I couldn't believe something any longer, just because someone else told me it was true, I had to know things for myself, and work them out myself.
hello!! i remember subscribing back in 2008, and now i when i look u up again you still look the same! how did u keep it up? haha. tips to us girls? :P
Steve, I don't know if you just predict about current events happening in my life or what, but this is kind of what I've been exactly going through lately. It's getting me depressed to the point I can't stand it much longer. Thing is, I don't really know what my "true talents" are or what I truly want to do with myself and now I seem to get desperate and depend on how other people thought of me and worry how I'll end up with it though it'll lead me nowhere in the end.
@irishgirl993 Forget about "true talents" & the need to become good at something. People want to know the light at the end of the tunnel. You have to walk through many doors to get to the light. Be patient. This myth that you have to become someone is damaging. Practice the beauty of being. Travel, go on walks, write, listen to music, engage in meaningful conversations. Go within! Don't let the world be your identity mirror. Live your life inside out. Stop thinking so much & start being.
Good video Steve I will post it -I think this will help the economy! If people will take the first step (even if it is small)and just do it. That is the key to our dreams. I want to start a business. And if it fails pick your self up and try again--I got to the point one time where I had to have help on some jobs-it can be done just plan and do it!
@datkid56 Forget about being the century's greatest artist. The greatest way to strangle your passion is when the ego gets involved. Just draw because you love to draw. If you don't feel like drawing then don't draw. Stop thinking about it so much and follow your intuition. Great artists enter a 'flow' when they create. Analyzing things too much short circuits 'flow'. Sit in silence.
This is so true! A person can spend so much time agonizing over doing something "right" (aka perfectly), that they never even start. I know I've done this a lot; luckily I'm getting better at just diving in. My dad has a saying that I like. "Good enough is good enough." It helps me get past the perfectionism.
The other alternative is, drop the idea that there is anything in particular to do in the first place. Let's stay honest, what we really like is what comes so natural to us that we don't even have to bring ourselves to start doing it.
I mean, there's nothing "wrong" with demanding or ambitious activities (beyond what's necessary and/or easy), but ultimately they simply can't fulfill you (in the sense of leading to lasting happiness) and often cause stress, at least that's the case for me.
@benjayk You don't think people find fulfillment in pursuing their passion? The reason many people have lasting unhappiness is because they aren't doing what they're passionate about. Yes, doing your passion should come easy but it doesn't. In every pursuit there is good & bad aspects. I like speaking Spanish but not studying all the verb conjugations.
@vagabondsteve: Yes, people can find fullfillment in pursuing their passion, no doubt about that. I just mean that it often doesn't work. Even when we are really passionate about something it can become more of an stress factor than anything else. And many people pursue something that turns out to not be of so much value after all. Others (like me) just can't find a passion that you can pursue with your own efforts and will be frustrated by trying to find one.
@vagabondsteve: [cont.] And most importantly, it doesn't seem to lead to the sort of happiness we are *really* looking after. Unconditional, lasting, not fixated on some activity or thing,
This kind of happiness can't by achieved or induced by anything, IMO. That may be frustrating to the ego, but ultimately it brings the relief of not being responsible for your happiness in any ultimate sense.
So, pursuing a passion can bring some happiness, but I think it is overrated.
@benjayk Agreed in the traditional sense. Most people pursue passions in order to get something out of it. I find pursuing my passion without concern about the end result is a blessing. Many people's passions are covert tactics to gain approval and inflate the ego. Passion doesn't have to be grandiose. Some of my previous passions: traveling, sitting on park benches, solitude, journal writing, video games, veganism, deep & meaningful, martial arts, conversations, bicycling, etc.
somehow this is true but somehow this is absolute bullshit... why? because you can do something for years and not get any money out of it. we all want to live a good life. and if you want to live a good life you also need to think about money and how to get money. why? because if you want to have a girl she wants to buy all the shit and show it to her stupid friends.
@vagabondsteve Wow ages ago.. Lemme remember... Yea. (work decision) At the time I was in the 'improve improve improve' mode so I can't make mistakes in my work. Well now I learn on mistakes. :D It's amazing how some things seem 'long time ago' like this video for example, while others seem so close. That's why I'm using terms such as 'at the time' and 'now' lol, as if it's months/years passing.
haha i wrote a few songs with a guitar, just made simple lyrics of some of my thoughts. some call them shit, some said those ain't too bad) that's okay, people might like or dislike what i do and i should keep it up on my personal wave. thanks, Steve! you are so right
