  • A truly great man......

  • imagine if i had been raised differently i probably wouldn't be an atheist, it's a huge coincidence, it must have been god's will. i'm so funny

  • this is beautiful.

  • YES! And thank you for uploading this gem of documentary of my hero. One of our times' greatest thinkers if not the greatest.

  • My great regret is to not have had the opportunity to have met the man himself.... As he's said in regard to heaven's promise of the possibilty of meeting our most admired thinkers in heaven; I'm sure they'd never meet my expectatations (or something approximate). Though in his case, I think an exception to his claim would be made. I weap for the world the day he past, we've lost our greatest champion. All the more reason to take up the torch!

  • This man is the greatest thinker I've ever watched and one of my personal heroes. I will miss him greatly.

  • If I could only possess a single iota of this brilliant mans' vocabulary. Makes me want to go back to school...haha

Terse???? I mean who in the hell uses those terms?...lol I could listen to him for hours and I know Im not alone.

RIP Mr. Hitchens. You have given so much to the world and you will never be forgotten.

  • I came here to regenerate my willpower for the further debates with religious.. you know whats.

  • I may not know much for certain but I know the world has lost one of it's greatest orators and most prolific secularists. This world needs more great men like him.

  • RIP you wonderful man. You're the luckiest of us: you've returned to the earth, and you will become, as you and we all once were, star stuff again.

  • @ken6346 He finally got out of Korea...LOL

  • Hitch is dead. But Ray Comfort lives on. Proof, if any more were needed, that there is no god.:(

  • so long hitch, thanks for leaving the world better than when you found it.

  • RIP Christopher.

  • 4:14 ...9/11 official story blindfaither

  • Tony Jones and his common contrived "puns" in the first 30 seconds of his opening delivery. Embarrassingly stupid. Then Hitchens comes to the podium and lays waste to man's proclivity for superstition. Loverly post. Thanks.

  • The only speaker I listen to. The only writer I read of. One of the few man I categories as a pure genius.

  • "A special Christopher Hitchens archive in some corner of youtube"? You have no idea.

  • @TheAndiePerson Me neither. Oh, maybe I've been listening to it for the past day.

  • omg did u hear his voice at 4:44

  • i really hope he gets better and his hair grows back, i love his hair

  • is tony jones an atheist?

  • i live in sydney and i missed this what the fuck i am fucking retarded

  • @kickmeout1 haha, my dad missed both MLK Jr. and Robert Kennedy's speeches when he had the last chance, and has pictures of the martial law that followed with the MLK assassination

He said he regrets it (obviously =P ), but still had two badass party nights in their stead

    =3

  • @AstronomyGuru1 thanks :)

  • Wish I had a uterus so I could bear Hitchens' children

    xD

  • @timjdong It's a fashion, politics and current events magazine. Let's not simplify things.

  • No matter how persuasive this speech may be. All religions have faith and its the faith that makes these religions impossible to destroy. The people belonging to these religions cannot have their minds changed by atheist or agnostics because they believe in something that they already know cannot be proved or disproved...Faith.

  • @taylor6string I believe its the indocrination thats makes them so hard 2 destroy. a child raised in an atheist home believes in religion no more then fairy tales of santa claus and the easter bunny

  • Religions are quickly dying and the theists are unwilling to go down without a fight. But they will lose. Mark my words...

  • @Hornadayfan they r losing on a worldwide basis. quicker internationally then in america but losing, none the less. atheism/agnostics r @ 18%, 20% in the us, with numbers possibly higher because many r closeted and just go thru the attendance motions 2 hide from criticism. I can understand, but it doesn't help reduce the ignorance and blatant promotion of throwing away the sciences and homosexuals right 2 exist without beatings.

  • @AstronomyGuru1 you are a gentleman and a scholar.

  • Christopher Hitchens is an arrogant asshole. People are commenting that he's 'the savior of humanity' - If Hitchens really is mankinds only hope, we might as well all just commit sucide. He might be intelligent, speak eloquently, but as a person he is, at best, a walking sample of fecal matter. Note that this opinion comes from a staunch atheist who agrees with many of Mr. Hitchens' views.

  • @TheStinkfister Your disgusting.

  • @numshine9 At least punctuate correctly when trying to insult me. Are you sure that you are smart enough to absorb the information provided in this video?

  • @TheStinkfister GET A LIFE

  • @TheStinkfister What an eloquent, convincing argument.

  • @lordlacolith indubitably.

  • @TheStinkfister is it because he believes that religion is poison and promotes a lower standard of morality? or is it becuase he recognizes how damaging indoctrination of children is? or does he simply rub u the wrong way...

  • @cruelbusiness1984 he just rubs me the wrong way.

  • @TheStinkfister Dude, your name is TheStinkfister... Your idea of what "rubs you the wrong way" is slightly different from that of others.

  • @karstd Good point, sir.

  • Listening to Hitchens puts hair on your chest

    =3

  • @TAz69x LOL

  • @TAz69x Hitchens was so much man he was composed entirely of chest hair.

  • @SlaughterMeister

    And scotch.

  • @TheSonorama21 Yes, of course. Johnny Walker Black Label.

  • Religious beliefs are for the ignorant.

  • @Hornadayfan

There are religious people in every profession; doctors, engineers, physicists, scientists, etc. Being religious has nothing to do with how well they perform their jobs. Do you really think these people are ignorant?

  • @krob57 yep and refuse 2 let reality persuade them. they rationalize, as I'm sure u do, about well, this is how god does work, not the only explanation, and so forth. deluded people love hangin on 2 thier view of the world cuz its comfortable, and nice, and makes them feel protected. its misleading, poisonous, and dangerous

  • I just wish all the religious people would grow up and cop on. Religion is dying and soon to be dead. We have no time for religious dogma and pathetic superstition in 2011. The truth will always prevail. If I do go to hell well i'll be having a bbq with the Hitch and Hendrix.

  • the guy that introduced him is a prick.

  • 4:38 - Hitchens starts

  • @robopoet Oh thank you, you kind and wonderful person you, for allowing me to skip that condescending, arrogant, moron I will loosely call an introducer.

  • @robopoet thanks for saving me time :)

  • The videos are exilarating intellectualy and very stimulating. But the comments section regarding the content of some is icing on the cake. I get a laugh on every video!

  • Have you even read anything he has written aside from his valid attacks on religion? It is impossible to claim that this man doesn't know his history. It amazes me how the religious would claim stuff like 'he doesn't know what the history of religion is' and not even present a SINGLE fucking piece of evidence to back up their assertions.

He's going to go down in history as an admired man. You are going to be one of the millions of idiots he persuaded to think before speaking.

  • Hi, If your an atheist as am I, please check out my channel, where I'll be assessing major issues our society is facing in terms of religion and basic ethics... As well as the occasional video game content as I am a bit of a gamer..

I hope you'll check it out. Cheers, Mitchel

  • @ 7:10 he says Stanley Kubrick instead of Stanley Kramer

  • @kaligrs And Theists have loads of original thoughts dont they...

    dumbass

  • @kaligrs Please refrain from communication on this matter as your comments are that of an illiterate worm, and try to be nice in future :)

  • @kaligrs ...you ignorant waste of cells.

  • When Hitchens says "republican" he doesn't mean conservative. He means he's in favour of a republic system of government. Keep in mind that he's talking in front of an Australian audience, and Australia is a monarchy. That's why it's funny that even a "republican" such as himself could want a title with the word "royal" in it.

  • @shockofgod i wasn't sure if you were kidding or not, but i laughed all the same, thanks :)

  • @shockofgod Your argument is a very weak and old argument. No-one has ever killed someone BECAUSE they are atheist, but many people have killed BECAUSE they are religious. This is where your argument fails. Hitler was a Catholic.

Your argument still doesn't prove God exists. There is zero evidence for the existence of God and any sensible person is an atheist.

  • @cakeisnotanumber I agree entirely. Shokofgod is a bit of a pillock.

  • this man plants weeds in a garden, loser

  • I'VE FOUND THE ARCHIVE!!! O.o

  • Actually, it was Stanley Kramer who directed "On the Beach," not Stanley Kubrick. The two stylistically are vastly different, though Kubrick probably would have loved directed the film of Shute's novel, if he was not swamped with "Spartacus" at the time.

  • I'm starting to get tired of the same introduction joke :S

  • no matter what CH says or thinks, or doesn't say etc he is still like the billions of people that have lived and live. ie he lives from the disposition of the clenched fist rather than that of the Open Hand. The Great Realizers lived as the latter and Adi Da is such a one. Unless one is living as such one will never 'know' the hidden teachings, the esoteric teachings and their meanings. Exoteric mindsets will never understand hence the saying about wise people not getting into heaven.

  • @godcures what?

  • @mansfield6490 Yes, God made everything so attractive

  • I've never seen gravity

  • hes an atheist republican? what the fuck?

  • @evilresidence4

no hes not. hes a former trotskyist the only republican position he takes is pro-war on iraq and its even for different reasons than republicans. look up his pro war argument

  • @evilresidence4

he doesnt mean republican in the american sense of the word

  • Mr. Hitchens is hands down the smartest man alive, hands down. He will open the eyes of the world on his own. He will go down as the savior of humanity, he is exactly what the world needs right now.

  • @Redcaster916 hallelujah for our true saviour is come! Hitchens shall come to smite the believers with holy logic!

  • @Redcaster916 he does it in such a way that leaves the christian 2 realize that reality isn't as they assumed it is. there's no way out but 2 realize god's not real when he's done :) brilliant

  • @Redcaster916 HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

  • @Redcaster916 there's no need to exaggerate. there's already enough Gods out there.

  • @Redcaster916 I wish you were correct about his effect as much as you are correct about his intelligence. Unfortunately, the people of the world are a pious crowd. What evidence can one provide to those that don't value evidence? What erudite line of thinking can one provide to convince those that believe that true intelligence is provided by one book? It will be a battle uphill, but hopefully the curve of learning for belief will mirror that of the curve for knowledge.

  • @thalordalmighty Despite the fact that all of these sermons and exhortations being communicated are toward illiterate and pious people who don’t really value evidence, they are still clearly having some effect. Look at what Carl Sagan did. What he taught and said affected millions – and it was complete likewise for Hitchens.

  • from the atheist in manhattan beach CA we wish you good health!

  • @mrlogic4u He smoked in spite of the knowledge it's bad for him, not in ignorance of it. It was his choice. A bad one, unfortunately. But intelligence isn't a factor there. I don't recall him ever laughing about the death of innocents, either. Real classy, though. Wishing for the suffering of a man who's done nothing to deserve it. I doubt you'd have the gall to say it to his face.

  • @mrlogic4u

You're just jealous that he's smarter than you. ;P

  • Comment removed

  • @mrlogic4u all of the best writers, thinkers, artists, and musicians smoked. get over it!

  • We wish you the best Christopher. Well done as always.

  • If I hadn't known, I would have suspected that the person introducing Hitchens (Tony Jones) was introducing God himself. Geez...

  • Hitch comes on at 04:49

  • Hey I found that hidden archive of Christopher Hitchens stuff!

  • I was there. Picked up his Orwell book, but no signing unfortunately. Would love to see the interview that Tony mentioned.

  • "for that suspiciously terse, grudging introduction"

I thought the same thing--at first it was hard to tell if he really liked hitchens or not. It started off like a roast.

Gotta love hitchens for callin it out--he never fucking backs down and he is fucking briliant.

with the distinguished british accent to boot.

  • @cc3314

Im ASIAN, Bengal we WERE INVITED, did the natives invite you???

Do you think a AIDS VIRUS such as ameriKKKs, australia, chile so on, ALL these thievedoms will last LONG????

Your K I N D is just a filthy bigot, that NEEDS to be cleansed.

    AUSTRALIANS ARE A L I E N S, to this ancient land.

  • @HANNIBALbengal

"Your K I N D is just a filthy bigot, that NEEDS to be cleansed."

Preaching genocide, how very highly evolved of you. Puts you right up there with such amazing figures has Hitler and the Spanish Inquisition, how lofty.

The main thing I don't understand of people who argue your point is what is the point? Do you except to now remove hundreds of millions of people in order to please a small minority of people who may have the correct ethical outrage for an horrible act of past.

  • YES of course, its called KARMA.

One way, all that has been stolen WILL be taken back.

Enjoy STOLEN LAND which you call home.

Chinghis Khan said.. I know no discrimination, NOR does my talvaa or sword.

  • @HANNIBALbengal Fine if you are going to play that, then you have to give back all the land obtained by tribal warfare that occurred in the previous years between the various tribes that lived on that land. It is the same problem, the fact is it is extremely unethical to kick people off land that for all practical purposes is their home now. I'm not saying the people who invaded the land are now justified but two wrongs do not make a right.

If you respond to me, actually make a point please.

  • Look at ur words.....hehehe

    YOU MADE THE POINT.. T R I B A L takings ..meaning natives, aboriginal. That's NATIVE feud.

Thats between their clan, race or kind.

What right have aliens like NAZI uastrali, ameriKKKa canada to STEAL??????/

ALIENS are ALIENS which are uninvited entities.

Their is no JUSTIFICATION in stealing land, thats the speak of BOLSHEVIST whom are more evil the hitler.

    I made my point again.

    EVIL SEES NO EVIL.

  • So what makes the stealing of land unethical to you is if the people who steal it have to get in a boat before they kill and steal?

You just applied a label to the stealing, and you try to justify it by saying they live closer together, so they can treat each other horribly? Frankly I think that just goes to show how fucking irrational you are.

"Their is no JUSTIFICATION in stealing land"

Odd you try to justify it right before this by saying that if they live close together it is alright.

  • @HANNIBALbengal I know not what country-in-question that has been victimized you're sore about. I understand your pride and anger. However, the cycle of violence should break... I hope your confusion and obvious anger will not lead to the harm of innocents (or for the matter of fact, cloud your judgement on whom are innocents.)

On a side note: I've always heard the misused of the word Karma. Karma is not a retribution force of nature, but rather an understanding of cause and effect.

  • PS judge a man BY honor & integrity, HITCHINS has neither.

After all australia is STOLEN LAND.

  • @HANNIBALbengal Riaght, because land stolen from natives more than 100 years ago is directly connected to a man that was born in Britain and is simply speaking in the country.

By the way since that is how you judge people, what is honor and integrity?

I have a feeling they are very subject definitions to you and hence worthless except to you personally.

  • @cc3814 sorry, didn't mean to thumbs down ya, was meant to thumbs up :P

  • A australian talking about terrorism....WHO TERRORIZED the aboriginals???

YOUR NOT WELCOME IN THEIR LAND.

    DID the aborigines INVITE you??

    THE hypocrisy is breathtaking,

To KKK-australians & Hitchins WHAT WILL aboriginals make of Hitchins BIASED self righteous narrow minded views.

Hitchins seems to be attracted to thievdoms.

    autssralia is a VILE thievdom.

  • Physicists now discuss the "nothing" that Hitch referrs to as "dark matter" which is certainly NOT "nothing"!! Thus, the resulting explosion dispursing matter is completely understandable...

  • Big bang does not equal from nothing. that's religion, ex nihilo. On another note, On the Beach is one of my favorites. I read it as a kid, and have always enjoyed re-reading it. I didn't know anyone else who felt that way about it... I knew there was a reason Hitchens and I agree on quite a lot :)

  • @Flakjacket007

    No one said it did.

    Big bang != from nothing.

Our laws of physics break down when calculating back to that point, so we are unsure at this moment what happened prior. To simply throw up our arms and say "god did it" would be a great disservice to mankind.

  • @Flakjacket007 I know that you probably don’t care about having your misinformation corrected because people like you by definition don’t value evidence, but the theory of the Big Bang actually isn’t the idea that the Universe came into being out of nothing. It is the idea that 13.7 billion years ago the Universe was an infinitesimally small point, and then expanded by virtue of gravity into what it is now – that’s it – that’s all the theory states.

  • Probably one of Hitchens greatest speaches.

  • does anybody know when this debate had taken place?

  • @ Dougca1985 - This was early October 2009.

    Hitchens at his best!

  • Hitchens admirable eloquence aside, how can ANYONE watch this and still contest its validity?

Religion at this age in time (with many of the big questions answered by science) is the ultimate deciding argument for anyone who claim that modern man is lost to ignorance and stupidity,

  • @Cachtice

lots of people would be too shattered by the truth - everything they have ever known depend son their false consolations. They try very hard on a subconcious level to protect their indoctrinations.

    ie. brainwashed

  • He means Stanley Kramer when he says Kubrick... doesn't he?

  • Stanley Kubrick is a fantastic director, he directed 2001: A Space Oddity.

  • @SirPwn4lot Yes, 2001: A Space ODYSSEY is a fantastic movie, as is A Clockwork Orange and Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining... and they go on and on lol

  • @tudomerda

I ment Space "Odyssey", not "Oditty". heh maybe it fits.

  • Yes

  • "Christopher Hitchens and Tony Jones in Sidney"

    Sidney?... SIDNEY?..

    It's spelt Sydney you jackass.

  • No, my I just asked the creator of the universe and he said it's spelled Sidney.

  • honesty always works vs religion

good videos on this topic at my channel

  • Does anyone have the video with the Hitch providing the commentary?

  • lol hitchens has become a prophet! is he going to combust like antimatter? he is one of the smartest people alive.

  • The bible may still be here after he is gone. Hopefully, in the fiction section at your local bookstore

  • @jsullivan80 Agreed. I have no problem with religion being taugh in fact I think it is a very important part of cultural hystory along with all other ancient mythology.

  • @jsullivan80 that should go down as one of the greatest sayings of our generation lol

  • @jsullivan80 and intelligent design should be in the science fiction section ;-)

  • @jsullivan80 I wholeheartedly agree. When I walk into Barnes & Nobles, one of the biggest chain bookstores in the United States, they have a section entitled "Religious Fiction". And the first thing that always comes to mind is that such a title is redundant. It would be like having a section of books called "Fictional Greek Mythology".

  • @jsullivan80 probably not at your local book store. Most likely in your local comic book store right next to vintage hulk comics

  • @jsullivan80 They have a "Religious Fiction" Section!

  • @jsullivan80 Im guessing your thinking it may be too soon for that to happen :)

  • Hitchens looks good here...

  • Comment removed

  • And of course, your beliefs can. Of course, what you believe is better than what others do.

    Of course

  • @crabbit101

    they just did! hehehe

  • Comment removed

  • theism is not rational.

  • What about, "Any truly rational person would see theism as the crock of shit that it so evidently is"?

    lol...

  • @crabbit101

they just did, in your comment..

  • @gr0mithtimon You know what context I'm referring to.

  • @crabbit101 "Those who practice Theism aren't capable of rational thought." Wasn't THAT hard to come up with one .... lol .... I know that wasn't your point .... I couldn't resist tho!

  • @crabbit101 Yes it can... "Theism is not rational." :D

  • @crabbit101 except in that sentence

    >_>

  • @crabbit101 "Irrational" has "rational" In it.

  • @crabbit101 How about...Theism is by not rational...?

  • Hitchens starts at 4:40

  • Can you upload it again and shift the F*cking intro!! - PLEASE - I want to download it to CD and don't want to listen to 12 intros. Also don't have the tech know-how to shift it myself

  • fast forward Goodbaruk you idiot its video on a
