  • Can you please upload Just Ask Me, I've Been There and I Can Tell a Lie, But I Just Can't SIng One"? I had this album growing up and played it over and over. Thank you!

  • I love this Awesome country. Spirit Lives ... here.

  • You have to feel pity for any person who would dream of attacking Peter Allen for what ever reason. He was a decent human being who came from a frugal life and made it to the top on talent alone. This song is one that goes to the heart and mind of good people.

  • Why we get the revolting word that he was gay, married to a super star. Tenterfield is a back end place. He made it and the Tall Poppy must be cut down. Like many in Australia they just can't simply say that's great and not all the crap they need to add... slightly jealous of Talent from an AUSSIE

  • what a song! Just doesn't age.

  • WOW, I live In Tenterfield And walk past Tenterfield Saddler ( the museum now) every morning, and I just found out that there's a song about it!!!!

  • I've been looking for "Somebody Beautiful Just Undid Me" from that album for years. It would be fantastic if you could post it.

  • when i listen to this song ....i find it incredible how peter could sing this song whith him self so exposed..????

What a fantastic artist ...like freddy mercury ...died way before thay should have!!!

  • @Markgr122 spot on mate great songwriter, singer, performer, piano player & poofter.

  • Such a beautiful song and it feels so close to home.

  • i live in tenterfield and go past the tenterfield saddler shop almost on a daily basis, and i never grow tired of looking at it. there are still smoke-stains on the ceiling of the shop from the days of george woollnough (peter allan's grandfather).

  • Im an Australian & have always been lead to believe that the Tenterfield Saddler is a song that Peter wrote about his Grandfather. Therefore in the song he is singing about his Grandfather, his own father & himself. Is this correct ???

  • @thegman00 yes his grandfather is the saddler his father was alchoholic and killed himself and he(Peter) is the grandson who "married a girl with an interesting face" :)

  • @Deppdevotions the girl with the interesting face is Liza Minelli ;)

  • @thegman00 Yes story of Peters life... great song..one of my fathers favorites

  • GREAT SONGWRITER AND SINGER/PIANO PLAYER/PERFORMER!!

  • Nice

  • What a post and thankyou. And so many great comments. Peter's music could touch us all. I hope I don't distress everyone too much by asking if anyone has checked out Rick Price' performance of this here on Youtube. Also I saw Peter's performance of this song at his appearence at Sanctuary Cove and felt it was one of the most moving experiences I have enjoyed at any concert. I hope someday someone can post it for everyone to enjoy. Thanks Again and best wishes. Johnny Q.

  • A beautiful song that tells a story. Peter Allen was a gift to all of us who know of his music.

  • So how ya doing DeppD? I trust you're having greater confidence in yourself.

If your taste is this good then you're on the right path, A little earlier than I got to it. To tell you the truth I just thought Peter was 'some old faggot' for at least twenty years and when my best mate asked me if I knew 'the song Tenterfield Saddler' I said 'huh?!?'

But you've seen my more recent posts

    Never cut yourself short.

    Cheers mate

    Diamond

  • Well I'm a bit embarrassed that my comments are still up here - except of course they're the truth. So my embarrassment is an affectation (don't be embarrassed, most people will look up 'affectation')

I'm straight and proud! I'm also intelligent and proud, and Australian and Proud!!!

May I just say though that offensive language is not necessary - I use it myself but I know I shouldn't - this is not the right forum.

  • @harmesy37 ... So meanful, deep beautiful words,

Naaa ... it didn't find it's way to BP, but thank-you for pulling my attention to PA. I have learnt something new :)))

  • First song my late partner and I danced to, in 1990. The show Boy from Oz in Brisbane 1999 brought back a whole lot of memories.

  • This song touches my heart more than any other Australian song or anthem.

  • so powerful this

  • I love Peter Allen's music. Such a great story teller...

  • AUSTRALIA love it or FUCK OFF

  • @AUSBALLADER pitty about the politions that run the place though.

  • thank god for peter!

  • @kezza19611 Thank God for Peter, Thank God for Paul (Kelly) and Yunupingu, (God I hope I spelled that right)

Thank God for Warren Zevon and for Che Guavara. Thank God for Miss Rosa: Thank God for Dr Martin Luther King.

Thank God for every artist or leader who has sung, spoken and lived from their heart.

That's enough thanking God for an atheist today.

  • I don't know how I ever missed hearing this touching song by Peter but it's an instant favorite.

Makes me wonder what he would have done if he hadn't left us so soon. The world lost a great talent and a wonderful entertainer. RIP Peter.

    Thanks for the post!

  • I live in Australia for 30 years. I was born in Odessa, Ukraine, where I lived for 30 years, but I find happiness only in this wonderful country. I love Sydney, love Australia more then life. Thank you, Peter Allen, God bless you, and all Australians!

  • @grundigsatellit mate, australia loves you! best country ever!

  • Growing up near Tenterfield this song has always had a place in my heart.

  • What a beautiful touching song! RIP Peter Allen.

  • i remember leaving Australias shore to move to the usa and they played this at Melbourne airport ..i cryed my bloody eyes out as i waved goodbye to australia and my family and friends

  • Happy Australia day!

  • many generations of my family have come from tenterfield in the end we always return...god bless those who have been caught out in the floods but as we people of tenterfield we will get back in and help each other..this song reminds me of my poppy a proud man born and bred intenterfield many tears shed while this played at his funeral...

  • So easy to listen to this song.

  • wow...22 comments...since a 14 year old american girl posted this in response to my request for the original. Thank goodness their Recording company has allowed it to remain here as so many fall off. what a world that such a song can unite people form wales america and Australia...what have we learned today class? I have learned that this is one beautiful song by an amazing man that others appreciate.,.,nothing more nothing less.

  • not many people can create the imagary that peter allen did with this song. a truly great piece of art. :)

  • I truly believe that Peter Allen continues still...to connect and deeply touch the heart & soul of many.

    So very, very many ~

  • Yeah, I'm a bit cut on this at the mo, Yes I'm pissed off at the talentless hacks who trash this song. Yes, I'm protective.

    Yes I'm related.

  • @diamondjimlegend I can understand you mate! and how are you related exactly (unless Ive miss-read,Im 14 so not the most itellengent of people!)

  • @Deppdevotions Hi DD, Sorry it took me this long to respond.

It's a distant one - my aunt is a Woolnough (as in 'son of George Woolnough...')

Twenty years back I bought a Driza-bone in that store before it was torn down and I own 100acres up the road. I guess that's all quite incidental but it's still heart-felt.

DD, don't ever feel that being 14 makes your opinion unimportant.

    Diamond

  • @Deppdevotions Thanks for your response DD and I'm not claiming close relation - just some. My Uncle is a Woollnough and so therefore one side of what I grew up with. No one ever spoke of him - except once - they're too straight for me to repeat it.

  • @Deppdevotions You don't need to be related to love this. Be your 14 year old self with confidence.

  • not related! i have loved this beautiful man all my song loving life!met him just once in my younger years! he was understated gentle and just like you and me!I miss him still to tjis day!

  • @kezza19611 Cheers mate

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up his uncle gratuitously...

  • Wow, Thank You for posting this without the usual Australiana Bullshit that goes along with how everyone else does it. Kangaroos and Cockatoos... Yes, that's what he sang about but are there pics of his dead uncle?

  • @rytbabe That IS something!

  • At last..................thank you.

  • Australia's most moving song, I cant listen to it without all my hairs standing on end.

    Beautiful!

  • what a song,Thanks Peter

  • Was looking all over YouTube for Allen singing by himself. Great song, thanks very much for uploading.
