@wreckingcars72 I havent rebuilt a trans yet..... but if I had to I probably could. I kick myself for not keeping the old trans out of my first car and rebuilding it. I learn a lot by tearing into something.
@wreckingcars72 If I have the tools and can visualize what im working on and how it works I have no problems repairing it no matter what it is. Having the tools is the key.
@More350Power Yes having the tools is the key!! But They say you need special tools to rebuild a trans. But the only thing you really must need is a inch pound torque wrench!!
@wreckingcars72 I have a decent inch pound torque wrench and my grandpa's snap on foot pound wrench..... I get a lot of use out of them, especially changing clutches
@illuminatijews They are pretty much the same with a few small differences in the valve body and maybe one or two other things I cant think of right now.
@illuminatijews It can be done. I have seen some forums where people swapped out their C5 for a C4. I do know the pilot shafts/torque converters are different between the C5 and C4 transmissions. There might be some other small changes but it is possible. I did a quick google of c5 to c4 transmission swap and got some extra information, so people have done it.
@silverbullit Thanks! I have quite a few before. They are definitely nice if you are rebuilding a motor, just dont trip on them or knock 'em over then your a little screwed! LOL
@silverbullit LOL, yea they work kinda well when working on transmissions or engines. The only time they werent good was when I had them in the floor of the garage ( no place to put them ) when I was doing a head job on a chevy 2.2 engine, kicked it, scattered some bolts, cursed and picked them back up! LOL. Didnt loose anything.
Fantastic tear down man... Hopefully it won't give you too much trouble. I still want to find myself a free tranny to pull apart and try and learn on!
@mbyr31 If it gives me trouble, I got the impact tools ready, LOL! Ill just fix it! It is very difficult to get a hold of a tranny or even an engine. Id like to get my hands on a 302. I know people that have them sittin outside rotting away engines and tranny, but wont part with them. lol thanks!
So do you rebuild transmissions too??

The C4 is a good transmssion to learn on, its pretty simple as far as automatic trannys go.

@bah53 Sure seems simple. It doesnt look as complex as a TH350. Ford stuff in general seems to be easier to work on.
