Maybe they have to specialize one car to serve the higher floors and the other for the lower floors. This is the most efficient considering the operation status there.

They need a high-speed traction. And those buttons with the lights on the side are very flabby.

That's a specialty in some local Japanese lift designs. Anyway the elevators there have to make quite a lot of intermediate stops all the time. Not much difference with high speed models.

Actually those fixtures and LCD panels are very common for Hitachi Elevators of that generation. There are a lot in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay.
