Dear Joseph, I followed and practiced your tips and when I took TOEFL a month back my scores were R-27, L-28, S-23, W-27/ Total-105/120. Because of this my application to Engg. PhD at the University of Cambridge (which asks for a score of 100 or above) has satisfied the language requirements. I really thank you dear Joseph. I really recommend these videos to my friends who is preparing for TOEFL :)
The article is about ..T.. which the passage defines as ..D.. the professor provides an example of ...E... to illustrate this .. He/she states that ... DETAILS ... and so, this example clearly illustrate the ..T..
Hi Joseph. I have a question. I am preparing for TOEFL and doing some exercises in Cambridge's pc software. I noticed that in the 4th speaking question, there is such a text as yo mentioned however there is no definition in the text. I dont know if the questions in the Cambridge's CD are similar with the ones in TOEFL but can you tell me what I should do if I come across with this kind of question? Thanks in advance!
@evocan Hi there. Cambridge is a good supplement to your studies, but unfortunately, the speaking and writing sections of the exam are not exactly as described in these books. To the best of our knowledge, you will not find a question (4) passage that doesn't include a definition. The task will always be to explain or describe the concepts in the passage (definition) using the professor's example. Best of luck!
@NoteFulldotcom Hi Joseph. First, you are great! For example, you provide us with amazing tips for facing TOEFL.
Second (now seriously), I've a similar question to that of @evocan: I'm following Cambridge 4th edition (Gear&Gear, 2006). Now, on question 4 of speaking section, the readings (e.g. page 352) are quite different that this one you are showing here... maybe there are different kind of texts or do you fiercely support your updated knowledge? Best.@nahusnza
@nahuszna Thanks for writing in. We fiercely support our content! Cambridge is good, but the speaking and writing content isn't modeled as closely off the exam. I hope this clears it up for you. Best of luck!
@NoteFulldotcom Hi there, I just took the toefl and wanna say that Joseph is totaly updated!! The book "Cambridge 4th edition (Gear&Gear, 2006)" is very very useless for the Writing and Speaking section!!!!!! DON'T USE IT. SUCESSO!!!
having trouble in taking notes in listening parts in speaking and writing parts please sir Joseph help me how to improve this part my exam is very near and I'm really nervous right now because when i'm practicing and i don't have a clear notes so i cant speak especially speaking 6 question and writing 1
I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Just received my scores and they are 26/27/28/28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still shocked!!!!!!! I didn't expect that AT ALL. I must say that it was because of your videos, which I found one day before taking the test. Those tips SAVED me. I must also say that your speaking tips are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I'm truly thankful because you spend your time doing these videos. Thanks again! i'll post it in all of your videos.
@bretz8 Hey! I wondered, since you took the test recently, are the questions exactly as the ones in Joseph's examples? I have some practice programs (like Cambridge and Longman) and there the questions are totally different from these ones and I really can't use these templates. So, are the questions at least similar in the actual test?
Aah, amazing.... can you please reply immediately, i have toefl tomorrow..
In the line where you write "he/she states that......" is exactly what? I mean is that the examples right? I should say some of the examples as it is right? Or is it like a concept kinda thing?
@mudithead Sorry for the delay. I hope you did well on the exam. For all other students: where we say, "he/she explains that . . ." we should go into detail about the example. It's the point where we'd relay the specific information we heard in the lecture.
@twilightstar28 Hi there. At this time we do not have videos about the reading and listening sections. However, you can check out the Free TOEFL Class on our website. It provides a free reading sample and answers to help you begin practicing. If you would like a study plan, please email us jmiranda@notefull.com for further details.
What if the listening passage provides you with TWO examples or more? Or if the reading passage has several sets of definition (I mean, sub-definitions), like I encountered on a practice test? :o
@xkhuongdox Hi there. If this is the case, we would recommend following the same method and responding in the same way. "The article is about ________ which the passage defines as ________ and _______. The professor provides 2 examples of _________ to illustrate this." Then you would state what the examples are. So, it may seem a bit different, but the task is still the same: connecting the examples in the lecture to the definition in the passage. I hope that helps!
Hi joseph, I came across a question in which the reading describes the characteristics of a berry. The professor then talks about the strawberry and the mulberry describing how they do not qualify as a berry. So the example is actually apposing what the passage defined. What to do in such cases??
@jijjuthomas1 Great question! It seems to me that, even though the professor discusses that those 2 fruits are not berries, it doesn't actually mean he's refuting the article. It could be showing us some examples based on the definition provided in the reading. However whenever you make a contrasting sentence. It would say: "However, the professor provides an example of ___ to refute this."
Oh man, let me tell you. I'm taking my TOEFL exam next Saturday. I have been studying very hard during the last three months with a private teacher and off course by myself. Although my English is good, I was in a big trouble figuring out how to put forward all my ideas in only 60 seconds. I saw your videos about the speaking part and in 2 days I have learnt from you more than I have learnt from my teacher in 2 months and a half. So, I really want to thank you for all your advices.
hi, these videos are really helpful to understand how to approach the speaking section . accesed it two days before the exam and found it very useful.... awaiting results... thanks a lot...will recommend to others
hi, these videos are really helpful to understand how to approach the speaking section . accesed it two days before the exam and found it very useful.... awaiting results... thanks a lot...
What if the question is about a specific detail from the lecture ? should I speak about the topic and the definition of it then start speaking about the specific detail or example ? or should I just speak about the example itself rather than speaking about the whole subject ?
Joseph, you are the best!!! I got an unbelievable 118 on the IBT thanks to your videos, everything you recommend is most helpful, I didn't realize how well-prepared I was. Thanks so much for sharing your tips - I'd give you a hug if I could!
Thanksssssssss, You are the best...I just reviewd yout Videos 3 days before my exam...I didnt study for TOEFL at all..I didnt have time....but with your help I got Sp=26...wow more than enogh...Total=97 ..now I can apply for internal medicine residency............Wish u all the best..............................
Thank you, thank you! I followed your videos and got 30 on speaking, 29 on writing and 29 on listening. Only got 21 on reading, but that´s because I failed at managing my time and didn´t have time for the last article.
I have received my scores: 28R/29L, but especially - 27 in Speaking and 29 in Writing!!
This is mainly thanks to you and your great work! I am quite sure I would not have managed otherwise. I will now recommend you and your page to all my friends heading for TOEFL.
Thank you !!! You made it so clear and straight to the point about how to organize the answer!!! I've always had problems with organizing things I've heard or jotted down.
Thank you so much... i used your templates and I got 28 in speaking and 27 in writing..i scored only 24 in both areas when i first took it and wanted to get a 26 in speaking which is the required score. I must admit you're the best TOEFL teacher.
Hello, what if a lecture gives two examples. I've seen this format a whole bunch of times and I don't know what to do. Do you say the "The professor provides an example....He/she states" two times?
Hi, Joseph! Thank you very much for your awesome videos! They helped me a lot. 25 min ago I just received my scores. And you know, I was preparing for speaking for about 4 days, learned every single word that you taught and got 26 in this section!!! Thank you so much for that!!!

Hi, Joseph, thank you for this great videos, they help me a lot with my speaking section. I would really like to know if you're going to upload a video that contains an explanation of the 5th question. That is the only one I got problems with, and I think the reason is because you didn't explained it like the others. Thank you in advance for response.
I'm sorry, but in Question 4 in speaking section, you should relate the listening to the reading passage, isn't it? and I didn't see it in this video.
@euna1231 That's a good question. You're right. If you go through the video, you should notice that the phrases do exactly that. Relating the reading to the lecture is an important part of doing well on this question, so make sure to use the phrases in the video or something like them to do just that. Good luck with your studies and let me know if you have any other questions.
@NoteFulldotcom Mr Joseph. My weakness is in listening. What if I missed info from the listening? The previous TOEFL I took.. i only got 91, reading 23 listening 20, speaking 27, writing 21. As you can see my listening.... went south... my writing.. my 2nd section got 4-5 which is the highest score, but my first section I only got 1-2 bcoz my listening is just awful. Oh and uh I kinda unintentionally snooze for a second so i missed the bottom half of the essay. Do u have tips for listening?

Dear Joseph
In Speaking Section I tend to say "Thank you" after conclusion. Will my points be cut for this?? Is it right to end with this salutation??
Your response will be helpful as i am very worried about this section.
Thanks for the video.. I am feeling very confident after seeing them..
Thanks
