I remember when Eileen Farrell made her Met debut at the age of 40. It was
l960 and dozens of magazines and papers reported the story. Constant
references to her huge soprano.
Except on recordings she sounded like she should be singing Mimi or
Suzanne. Heard her w/ the Met a few years later in Cavallieri Rusticana
w/ Franco Corelli. Her voice really was huge. It was a great
performance.
Corelli BTW sounded even better in the opera house than he does on
recordings.

Eileen Farrell was the epitome of a singer......................she could sing all styles of music with grace, feeling and compassion. She was one of the "best" singers ever!!!~~~~
