  • Even some of us from California like this...how ya like them avocados? Well played sir !!

  • bet u miss back in the days old timer. very nice tune. god bless

  • Those Nationals get some great reverberation going on. Nothing else like'm. Nice playing. Thanks.

  • Really great... BRAVO!

  • @garywingrove Hey, uh it's us, Oklahoma. Don't forget about us? Lol.

  • local job list bit.ly / jobsfind

  • I mean, it's cool to try and cop a piece of music the EXACT way some other cat played it; but I absolutely love to hear musicians take a piece of music and make it their own.

I easily spent thousands hours (my first 5 years) learning to play music exactly as it was recorded - by whomever I was into at the time - and it was time well spent.

But hearing someone cover a tune the way they want to play it makes it theirs. Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is a beautiful example.

  • sounds a little like the song but has a long way to go , love the reso hes playing , great sound ,

  • Good rendition.

  • Works for me!

  • love the get-up!

  • to the person who talked to the texan. i live in texas ( not from here thank god)

75 percent of them are asses who have only seen the inside of their butt their whole life. which is the same as looking at the cursed ground of 90 percent of texas.

So to them ugly is beautiful. If you combine that with some of the lowest IQ's in the world.

You have the perfect mixture for ultimate stupidity.

As patrick from spongebob said "stupid people are so blissfully unaware of how stupid they really are"

  • @natefunk1 then get the F out!!! i'm from texas also. was born here and yes there are a lot of dumbasses. but there are also a lot of dumb*#&%s down here from california chicago wisconson unfortunatley. maybe they're bringing down the curve in the iq test. yes there are a lot of idiots that think they have to have gigantic trucks that they'll never haul sh!t in, but please drop the generalizations cuz at the end of a 100+ degree day we texas kick some ass for smarting off! :)

  • @garywingrove u just proved that ur one of the 75% of texans i hate.I say 75 cause the other 25% are a little like hank from king of the hill, embarrassed of all u over proud monkey dicks.ur not wrong about the dumb people from everywhere else.new yorkers can easily be as arrogant.what i'm talking about is the attitude that I get that I'm somehow deficient because I'm not from here. There's nothing wrong with liking or being proud of where ur from. u don't have to be an asshole to do it though.

  • @natefunk1 i don't care that you're from somewhere else and proud of where you're from! my remark was because you said "i live in texas (not from here thank god)" and then you went on to talk shit about texans. no i'm nothing like the texans you just described. i'm a proud texan because of it's history but i don't relate to the ones you're referring to because i actually enjoy intellectual conversations, i don't drive in the biggest fucking truck i could find, and talk shit all other states

  • likewise i don't think i'm better than anyone because i'm from texas. if anything i'd fall into the 25% because i know the people you're talking about and i can't stand them either! just drive up and down I-35 north of fort worth, you'll see exactly what i'm talking about! douchebags with huge trucks and fake "texas" accents driving like they own the road. they will talk shit but they can't back anything up! they are a disgrace to texas

  • i could sit on your porch, sip whiskey and watch you play all night......and i mean that in the least creepiest way possible.

  • i have nothing nice to say. o wait. hold up. some texan came into my work place the other day and proceeded to bitch about the weather in British Columbia and how miserable it was in my city, which is highly regarded as... well more beautiful then texas. i was wondering, when you look out your window do you see lush forest's and the ocean and mountains and trees everywhere? because i do. and i was wondering... in texas... do they only send you the instrumental, cuz that song has lyrics..........

  • i wanna live in texas

  • That has a real 'Blind Willie Johnson' sort of feel to it. That's a great sound you've got.

  • nice feel brother!

  • Great playing. Do people get it outside the liquor store, oops you're American and folks can buy liquor anywhere I think.

So where do you play and do people bob and dance to it?

  • The streets of Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City. You can't buy liquor just anywhere in the states. People tend to stop and chat, tip the can. I also do small venues by preferrence.

  • really good

  • really great, but the recording quality is rather bad :/

    keep bluesin'

  • Yeah, the camera was a Sony DSV-1, better for stills than video, and the mic was the one built into the camera. Future stuff will be done with a Canon FS100 v-cam with external mic capability. No HD though, still too expensive.

    Thanks for the feedback =o)

  • it is not hard to upload stereo on Youtube

  • scratch that....it has a certain charm

  • @taurtue That's what the blues is all about.

  • thats awesome dude, i reckon u shuld sing, u look like u culd do it :D

  • Thanks everyone for your very nice feedback. Looks like the second part of December and first part of January will be slow times for me, so I'm planning on doing more vids with the National, the A/E Yamaha and possible the Sheraton Epiphone (think 1930's jazz melodies). Got me a nice new camera too! Employment is sweet. Good luck to everyone during our current hard times, and best wishes!

  • @StreetMusician Dude I'm in love with your guitar and it's sound. What kind is it?

  • hey man you obviously bring happiness too people by simply playin your guitar ...just keep playing!!!!

  • i love it ! thanx ! check my stuff !

  • Amazing. I would *LOVE* to be able to play like this. You should do a CD of solo guitar stuff like this, I'd happily pay a good 30 bucks for it.

This is deep south, high desert, railroadin, truckin, loggin, gold-rush-mining music if ever there was such a thing!

    Ken, Toronto

  • im not gonna lie.

    you are the shit.

  • nice sound

  • where country and blues meet... great

  • Great performance!

  • awesome

  • awesome!

  • No, I think I learned it 40 years ago

  • Good for you. Lots more people learned it after O Brother, and to that tempo and inflections. Forty years ago I was sixteen years old working on Hendrix, Chryslers and Mary Kay.

  • yay hendrix :) sorry....:P peacex

  • Hendrix is still a fave of mine, just doesn't seem appropriate for performance any longer. Need to be skinnier and less gray. I'd like to keep my hearing too.

  • hahaha I understand. But I think you can still play it on your own....your own little secret. :P I learnt this song the other day. I might post a video of it I think. If I can get some recording thing...if I do I'll tell you about it yer? cool well peace xx

  • Yeah, let me know when you post, thx!

  • cool.......

  • Exelenteee!!!!

    DEsde Argentina!!!

  • I love it. Gorgeous sound. Great rendition. Thanks for letting us all hear and see you play.

  • what type of guitar is that.

    looks old

  • Google National Resonator Guitar or National Reso-phonic.

  • Could you please send tabs for this song for on a dobro(slide guitar)

  • Pretty busy right now, and I don't use tab but the source notation. You can put your Dobro into open D tuning (D-A-D-F#-A-D from fat to thin strings)and try the melody on the thin D. That's always how I start an arrangement, get the melody down first, then add other stuff as the tune cooks.

  • I started out in a punk band when I was 16. I'm 29 now and an aspiring bluegrass musician.

I love music, I love youtube and all the musicians that share their music here.I'm learning so much.

Thanks for the great video man!

    Great rendition.

  • lawl!!!!

  • cool stuff

  • hey man nice music i love blue grassbut it's hard for me to find it around here but keep up the good music

  • Very good. I really like to a slide used on a guitar.

  • hey what tuning are you using? Just getting into bluegrass now and learning different fills.... that sound is so great!

  • Hi, this is open D (D - A - D - F# - A - D), tuned downwards from standard tuning. So E to D, leave A and D as is, G to F#, B to A and E to D. This all goes from the sixth to first string. It's the same tuning as open E but down one full step, which saves on broken strings, where in open E you have to tighten them up. Good luck with the blugrass!

  • nice, thanks!!

  • great stuff, thank you.......

  • Great job man. You definitely are one HELL of a guitar player! Keep the videos coming.

  • Thank you! It's spring in the Rockies -- time to record something outside by a babbling brook =)

  • very nice, cool guitar

  • I hope you took that National along to the job interview. It definitely would have helped you get the post. Nice playing.
