It annoys me how Glenn Beck instantly calls Tomas Sowell a conservative. It is so that Sowell is well to the rightern side of politics, but that does not mean he is a conservative. The conservatives basis of political analysis, is mainly traditions. Accepting a political theory because it is old, not because it is rational nor well functioning, is stupid and ignorant. Tomas Sowell knows better than this. He is a libertarian, NOT a conservative.

The real argument is to show that if everywhere raised taxes on the rich, it still is a bad idea because it reduces relative investment and changes resources from what people want to what a third party (that doesn't much care) thinks that they want.
Seems like this book is very similar to Henry Hazlitt's book "Economics in One Lesson" although its probably still worth reading. The broken window fallacy can shed light on so many economic fallacies.

Also read Vision of the Annointed and Economic Facts and Fallacies, they are very well written and easy to understand. Basic Economics to me is more informative about the real world than the years of economics classes I took in college.
That's simply untrue...People can function and be involved in things that directly influence them: the anarcho-syndicalist revolution in catalonia that George Orwell participated in. It worked...but then Franco came in and killed everybody,GM provided the tanks :'(
I agree, but another Sowell book to consider is "Basic Economics." It will give a good introduction of the economic systems of the world and how they work. I am actually considering reading it again before I get to "Applied Economics."
@JML0328 i very hefty read, it's a very thick book but i'm reading it and i'm fascinated. reading about how the soviet model functioned and why it was so inefficient, what happens when rent controls laws are passed, etc
