@candlewick163 hahahaha! "Now I can bash on the cocky clarinetists at my school!" that is so funny. I hate when people think their so great at something when they aren't. There's always someone better and someone worse than you.
My first impression was that even though is is performed in the most commonly played key, Bb, it seemed to be too fast for dancing. There is another You Tube video of the Welk band playing the tune at approximately the same tempo. Welk and a lady do indeed polka expertly.
The Lawrence Welk Band, throughout its long career, primarily played music for dancing . The playback tempo of this video seems to be break-neck, for a polka in a ballroom setting. The key of Bb, however is correct.

Most old 78.,s have noise on them, caused usualy by being handled improper, ie they get scratches on the grooves from peoples hands and the needle styles too.
And another thing, I was born in the 1990's and I have no clue on records and stuff but I'm wondering, why is there that snapping noise in the back ground?
I would have to agree that this is played at the correct tempo, if u listen deeper into the music to the rest of the musicians they sound "normal", although I'm sure some of what is heard is distortion from the equipment used to record, as well as the medium and its age. The clarinet when played in the higher registers has this timber.
This is the correct tempo of this song. I learned to play it this tempo off of this 78 which my grandmother had when I was 13 yrs old and I can still play it by memory at this tempo.
This was one of my fav tunes when I was little. I always heard it on commercials and stuff and I didn't know what it was called but I still liked it. 8 years later, I hear it in Charlie the Unicorn. At that point, I was determined to find out the true name of the song. I finally discovered it's called Clarinet Polka and now this is one of my fav's on the classical song list.
Why do you guys say this sounds like the Charlie and the Unicorn song??????? what you should be saying is that the Charlie and the Unicorn Song sounds like this, and yeah they rewrote this for that retarded unicorn animation with high actors who have nothing better to do.
this is a very good record keep and protect it i doubt they are any more than a few copies of it left
It doesn't really matter if people think it's hilarious to point out that this is like the song from Charlie the Unicorn. All that really matters is that hopefully with something as widely watched, like "Charlie the Unicorn", at least a few of those people will find out how great of a Clarinet piece this is. Then, they may end up listening to classical music. Which is really all the world needs, more people to appreciate classical music.
TELL ME ABOUT IT... i LOVE classical music, people think its annoying. I myself listen to all kinds of music unbiased, but in the end i have to say classical music is art and is wayyyyyy above all the other music.
Dude. Seriously? Have some respect. DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO WRITE SONG LYRICS OR ANIMATE?????? DUDE YOU DON'T! SO DON'T COMPLAIN!!!! (I have all respect for the piece its self left though because I am very devoted to my clarinet)
@waterbomb22 Yes I know how hard it is to write song lyrics and animate. All the more reason not to waste that time on garbage. It is by far one of the most agitating and pointless videos I have ever seen. This song is class, and was reduced from class to be connected with that animation. All the great classics are being put to shame with modern crude and highly fruitless comics. Had they put some effort into making a good animation this argument would never exist.
Here's my view on it. America's economy is dead, we are still sending troops to the middle east, we have major problems with everything. LET THE PEOPLE HAVE SOME MINDLESS FUN!!!!! I used to ask my mom why my 11 year old sister would watch little kids shows, my mom would always say "Oh, she just needs to watch something mindless for a while." It gives your brain a rest from all the taxes, or work, or studying you have to do on a regular basis. In short, it's good for you.
@waterbomb22 Well you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it, I am just fed up with these classic masterpieces being associated with things which are not classic masterpieces, that's all
Well, great for you... I completely agree that classical "masterpieces" are fantastic on their own, but if you don't like charlie the unicorn, then feel obliged to keep it to yourself.
@waterbomb22 There's no need to turn this into a fascist state where free speech is no longer permitted. You should not be so offended that I have my own opinion, in fact, you should commend it.
well you also can't turn this into a dissing session for a popular video just because you don't like it. I ADORE my clarinet, and all classical music, but I also like Charlie the Unicorn as it is funny and relaxing. I am done with this conversation now, but I just thought I should tell you.
@waterbomb22 Also, I have respect... Respect for the piece, not to be degraded down to base garbage. I am not complaining. I was merely stating an observation and opinion which it appears a handful of people agree with. If you have respect for this piece and its performance you would say the same thing I did. If you are advocating for classic pieces of treasure to be abused then you in fact have no respect for them whatsoever.
If someone leaves a comment saying you will die, It will never happen if you post this on ten videos. If this is posted on your video, you hve good luck the next week.
Well considering they essentially just rewrote the Clarinet Polka into some stupid little stoner flick, I was not amused to tell you the truth. I am only 28 and I grew up with polka music thanks to my dad playing in his own polka band. I recognized the polka right away.
'I was not amused to tell you the truth'. well, you do appear to be quite avid in insulting people; whether your actions be founded on truth or misconception

Both camps are wrong. The Candy Mountain song's melody is based on the first theme in this song.
And that "retarded unicorn animation" is made by only 1 person. Although he probably does have too much time on his hands

Cherry ribbon stream across the sky and to the ground
Turn around, it astounds, its a dancing candy treat
In the candy cave imagination runs so free
So now Charlie please will you go into the cave?

Oh when youre down and youre looking for some cheering up
Then just head right on up to the candy mountain cave
When you get inside you find yourself a cheery land
