a stock pontiac g6 gt 3.5L coupe (my vehicle) will top out at 137 mph dyno tested before i put a crab intake and magnaflow catback single exaust whih doesnt do much to top end but makes it get up there faster so if you woulda kept it on mph with more road you still woulda gotten up there

The 3.6 is a DOHC V6 which is still used in the latest 2012 models. Early versions put out between 240 and 252 horsepower and maintain up to 40 mph on the highway, current direct input versions (found in the CTS & Lacrosse) put out over 300 horsepower. Get your facts straight before you make yourself sound stupid. DOHC trumps OHV in every way
The 3.9L makes 240hp in the G6 GTP models. Its peak torque is at 2800rpm, and peak power finishes at 6000rpm. I own one.
DOHC does not always trump cam-in-block designs. There are many other factors that play into power generation. There is a reason that the Gen 3 and 4 small blocks are so well liked and make such serious power, and its NOT because of the cam in block design.

DOHC isn't the advantage, its the ease it allows one to implement multiple intake and exhaust valves such as a 3v & 4v. 2 smaller intake valves allow for more intake runner volume without loss of velocity as compared to a single larger intake valve. Same goes for exhaust valves. However, this also increases the weight and footprint of the head, and complexity of the valve train. More complex valvetrain means more rotating mass.
@wjrneo2 its true that DOHC itself doesnt give it the advantage, but since virtually all heads with DOHC are 4v, and virtually all heads with OHC have 2v, i think its ok to make that assumption. and if you look at a 4v head next to a 2v head, you will see that more of the area can be used for valves with 4 of them. also, a OCH valvetrain has more mass than a DOHC valvetrain. size is the only advantage of the OHC design, and if used properly, it can be a very good design.

gxp is quicker than the gt and carries 33 more hp i do believe, and the gt in coupe and sedan are pretty similar, i think the coupe may carry a few more ponies but im not positive. I have an 08 g6 gt 4 door metallic blue and its by far my favorite car i have ever had

Haha. i forgot it was set to km not miles so i was wondering why it took 4 seconds. 60 mph is about 96 kmh so it was about 6.8 seconds. Thats still really good. Im impressed

@tremer88 they had a 3.4L DOHC 24 valve engine in the 1991 Grand Prix GTP/Lumina Z34/Cutlass Supreme. I was just mentionong that this G6 GXP 3.6L reminded me of how one of my previous cars sounded (Altima 3.5).

Both are similar displacement, with similar designs being DOHC. Not much you can do to differentiate that.
