A "gay for pay" refers to two separate groups of people. One group has sexual intercourse with person(s) of the same sex for pornographic media although these individuals are heterosexual in personal relationships. The other consists of actors and actresses portraying lesbian, gay, or bisexual characters in non-erotica roles although they are straight in their private lives.

Good points. In a way I look at it as a compliment that people want to imitate the gay community. I think it is kind of funny that straight people are trying to imitate, where we as gays or lesbians used to hide ourselves.

WELL, I guess I can legitimately & honestly comment on Context #2 there. I had 2 GUESS @ Context #1, but it turned out I was pretty close. I B-lieve that the phrase in Context #2 emerged from the rapid & nearly GLOBAL syndication of the hit TV situation comedy WILL AND GRACE, actually. Then after that, we had multiple gay characters showing up ALL OVER THE PLACE in both TV & film. I think U might find that CANADIAN medical & mental health professionals take almost exactly the same position.
