True story: Dylan at a Bill Graham - produced concert '82...the concert is advertised as "Bob Dylan: Retrospective"..
but he comes out and plays all his born-again stuff...at the intermission, overheard backstage: Graham: "you see what this poster says Bob? It says RETROSPECTIVE!! now you better start retrospectin', motherfucker, or i am going to kick your ass!" Bob obliged...the second half was all his older stuff....who else but Graham could have pulled that off?!!
Usually people with crazy hair are talented,Bob Dylan,Robert Plant,Jimmy Page,Jimmy Hendrix,Syd Barret,John lennon had crazy hair some times am I wrong?
I♥This song! the rolling stones ruined this song! you can't screw up a classic like this. we were jamming to this song in English and the dude I'm crushing on, luke, and i started dancing in front of the class like hippies. lol it was fun
people should learn to respect all music rock, rap, punk, metal, reggae, classical..ect i under stand alot of rap sux but not all, i respect all except polka
Deffiantly. People on here piss me off because they're so small-minded. I love this song but I like other stuff too. And even if you don't like it, people should realise that people put a lot of effort into succeding in that genre.
i know! ppl work hard to get this music off the ground! ppl should at least keep their big mouths shut and not bag these artists. you can bag polka all u want, though. that does suck
Hum, I can see where you come from but I think there is some amazing music that has been made recently. Someone is gunna give me a thumbs down for this but have you heard any of Peter Doherty's solo album? I'm not gunna say it's as this or something ignorant like that but he's very good at writing songs that mean something.
Firstly I think that gyhbhujn maybe have made his comment just a little tounge in cheek. However there is alot of crap music out there today (as there was in the 60's) and a lot of good stuff too. Unfortunately, Pete Doherty's falls into the former category.
I agree there is good music and bad music around today. If you don't think Peter Doherty is a good musician that's your opinion, it's just I think he is and thought perhaps gyhbhujn. No matter. Or rather there is: one in which we must both agree to disagree. Diversity and variety is what makes humanity beautiful.
Pete Dohertys music speaks to alot of people in the same way bob dylans does. i think their very comparible, if itw asnt for the skag Pete might have prooved that. as for his solo album its weak, but libertines were the best band of this generation no doubt.
to say that dylan is a mere poet is an injustice. he is abseloutly intesne on the guitar and does one of teh best solo performences ive ever seen. offcourse hes a musician, wat are you even on about
no you dont see where im comin from how old are u im 12 so i know wat kids listen to thats really matters because were the future and todays music that kids listen to is poison
Oh do shut up. Yes, the shit that is in the charts is terrible but you can't judge ALL of todays music on it. Maybe the "kids" you hang round with listen to mainstream shit but that doesn't mean everyone under 18 does.
I agree, Im 14 and Im a huge punk fan. I know punk pretty much died in 79 (well all the good stuff) but just cos a majority of youth listen to that shit doesn't mean that whole generation is doomed to those mainstream kids fate
And another thing about this song is the loose, live feeling - you can hear occasional screw-ups, and they often hit the wrong notes on the keyboards, but the song is all the better for it, and it has such a live feeling that makes it a major classic, well, the best song ever.
To MoPar7055 - It's not an okay song, it's a legendary song. That's why it was ranked the best song of all time on Rolling Stone, and Highway 61 Revisited was ranked the fourth (the album) although to me, it's the best. They wrote a book about this song!
I like Dylan songs but not sung by him, except this one. This reminds me of most of my money grabbing relatives and why I turned my back on them. They think they are so rich, but they are so poor.
Well I disagree, I love music and I think it's one of the best songs ever made. This song would even be great even if the lyrics weren't that good. The music represent the words with great beat and power.
god knows, what it takes to become a legendary song. Dylan had better songs, than "Rolling Stone" ... It'a alright Ma ... Highway 61 ... subterranean Homesick Blues ... Gates of Eden ... Visions of Johanna ... It's all over know ...
I think that's why it's so popular. when I listen to it; and I don't even have to look that far in depth. Even the literal meaning, it's almost as if it's written for me. That I think was the beauty of Dylan.

This is the first time I've heard this song. The music is excellent and the lyrics are brilliant, but Dylan's vocal performance sells the song short. They're too nasally and "shouty" for my liking. I suspect I'd like it even more if it was sung by someone with a different style.
as a Beatlemaniac I have to say this is the greatest song I ever heard, without any doubts! this song has the greatest lyrics (even if my favourite songwriter is John Lennon)
For me the great thing about this song is the length.
Usually great songs like the immigrant song are too short but I love that this song is nice and long.
When i first heard this I thought "this is gonna end any second" but it kept going and I love that because it's such an enjoyable tune. And it makes me wanna see "I'm not there".
UH? And you know this song is about LSD how? Good. Because we all know that EVERY SINGLE SONG FROM THE 60'S HAS SOME BLATANT DRUG REFERENCE WE HAVEN'T PICKED UP ON YET. AND BECAUSE OF YOUR WISDOM WE FINALLY SEE THE LIGHT.
