  • good song

  • I saw her las night w a great sound man & she nailed it all 3 big songs @ 70 trs old ... . How many chart busters do you expertcritics have ? What you guys going be doin @ 70 ?

  • If the original release of this song had not been edited, this is almost what it would sound like on record. But, the original recording was too long and had to be edited to a time under 3 minutes back in those day before radio programmers would even give it a listen. Even with that, this classic survived that injustice.

  • I saw her in concert last year, she still kinda sounds like what she did on her records

  • Well her voice and body is no different from all of us as far as going through changes, that natural remember as the song says "everything must change nothing remains the same" , and if you are human thats unavoidable.

  • I was at this performance. She and other artists sang live but when they produced the entire show they dubbed over the vocals with the studio recordings but only in certain parts if you listen carefully.

  • Was this lip-synched to playback? I watched a similar live performance of this for 2003 and 2008 and her voice is pretty much shot in both.

  • lol martha's voice is put on this video take from the original acapella from the studio version you can also hear the vandellas next to her backgroundsingers in the video but the vandellas were not here...

  • What show/programme was this from?

  • I love this song by Martha Reeves! I also love ''Dancing In The Street'' and ''Jimmy Mac'' I love Motown!

  • Martha Reeves no longer is anywhere near the vocal talent she was back in the 60s.

That is not a live vocal.

    Nice to see though

  • wow she is so lip singing,,,,,she sounds much worse now

  • Absolutely not. The vocals, including the back-up singers are prerecorded. The mic is live but Martha is definitely no longer capable of producing the sounds you hear.

  • She's not singing. They're all lip-syncing!!

  • er...that's a joke, right?!

  • She sang the national anthem prior to the Free Press marathon four or five years ago and it was some of the worst singing I've ever heard. It was hard not to feel embarrassed for her. Her voice was not only shot, but it was twisted, mangled and kicked to the curb.

  • Yeah man she left her figure in the past but here voice is still present, very present!!!

  • She grew bigger, but now I like her voice more than ever.

    Great 5

  • A joy to hear her...just a joy...

  • This is the strangest thing to watch. It's a new recording...that sounds like the original...but it has her 60's vocals on the track. She 100% was lip syncing...she does not sound like this anymore, nor will she ever sound like this again. I accept what her voice sounds like now, but this is strange to watch, weird to watch.

  • It's quite simple, she's lip synching against her original vocal track with live musicians playing the song in the key that it was originally recorded.

  • The original key is one key higher than what the band is playing...I guess the backup singers couldn't handle the original key.

  • You are RIGHT! This is NOT her singing NOW! It's much too much like the OLD Martha. AND I hear Roz in the background, and she clearly is 'NOT' on stage with them either! This is a lip sync! Good to HEAR, tho'.

  • @mhertz25

No. It's a different speed to the original (if sped up from the original it would be higher pitched) and also I doubt the original would be as good quality as what you'd hear these days.

  • it's really nice

but sad that it's not the original sound =(

  • I mean it looks like she sings live

but what's with her voice vibrato? it isn't here

if that was really live it was amazing

  • i still love her and this record even if she did lip sync ... what the hell!!?? She was good in her day!! FFs I get annoyed with nit pickers... grrrrr :(

  • Yah..I remember...she lipsynched this one ...then she sang something live and her voice sounded ...not so good. But God bless her for trying to remind us how truly great she was!

  • love it love it love it, makes me happy for hours!!

  • You are right. The music is slightly different but used the vocals from the actual song.

  • I hate to admit it, but she is definitely lip-synching. Martha does not sound like this anymore ... she has a tremendous vibratto and and has for the past 20+ years. Do youtube search for "Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Heat wave" and listen to her several years ago ... this is what she sounds like now. They must have lifted a 1960's recording and she is lip-synching for sure.

  • I think you may be right I had an Old 80s VHS and this is the same audio or realley close to it ,this is how she sounded then. I beleive they took this from an 80s performance and edited it because they did the same thing for Gladys Horton on this same show. but Martha does sound good these current days saw her live in London, the voice is amazing

  • Wow--Martha's voice is rich and soulful! Martha you are brilliant!

  • This sounds really good. I am surprised. They always had the energy.

  • is she really singing live? because her voice sound really Great, almost too good.
