  • He is just a good actor. In 50 or 60ys could have been a Good Sacrestano. Voice is always trembling, never steady.Awful Scarpia.

  • любимая постановка !

  • WOW!!!!! Er ist der Teufel!

  • This perfromance shows the influence of Wagner productions (lots of fire and smoke) and little in the way of dramtic acting. The 2011 performance at Coven Garden in London shows just how dramatic the staging and Terfel acting can be. The Covent Garden performance is his best so far see video respones for yourself.

  • I adore him!!! What a fabulous slow tempo, it's so drammatic and powerful!

Can anyone tell me who staged this "Tosca"? Is it in ROH?

  • @FloriaTosca90: Amsterdam, 1998.

  • This puts Tito Gobbi into a cocked hat and gives Sherrill Milnes a run for his money as well! Bravissimo Bryn Terfel!

  • Bryn is a very effective, even scary operatic bad boy here -interesting staging too.

Tosca, don't let any grass grow under your feet as you flee this monster.

  • la voix est toujours aussi belle, mais pourquoi toujours vouloir transformer les décors ! Puccini doit s'en retourner dans sa tombe !

  • YES!!! He is terrific!, he is Terffelrific!

This is Puccinni-Wagnerian... it destroys voices! He better not sing it to often... but, yes, it is good for him. He has got the power and sings it right!

  • YES!!! He is terrific!, he is Terffelrific!

  • I sang in the chorus with him at a concert with Bocelli in NYC this fall and just when he sang "Va, Tosca," I GOT CHILLS lol!

  • What a great Spoletta!

  • omg this guy rocks

  • Brilliant Bryn! I had the privilege last year of seeing and hearing him in this role at the ROH Covent Garden, opposite Angela Gheorgiu A STAND IN!! as the ultimate and perfect Tosca (the programmed lady being indisposed). It's an ill wind ...!

  • He is a terrific and terrifyinfg Scarpia

  • So now we have pyrotechnics in opera. At first I thought it was a Kanye West clip. Bryn Terfel is a terrific Scarpia, great actor, great voice, when you're not distracted by the fire. Where was he when the scene ended? In the pulpit?

  • Divine Puccini, Divine Terfel !!!!!

  • This great aria is to opera what Heavy metal is to rock 'n roll!

    Bryn rocks!

  • Me faltan las palabras!!! FEnomenal Bryn Terfel!!!

  • ООООООООО, мой любимый наследник "глаз навыкат" Gobbi)))

    Терфелёк -тут просто прелесть))))))))))))))

  • Terfel is gret as always! I jsut wish there was a different aka "classical" staging with chorus etc on stage

  • I have seen this performance live, amazing!

  • I have seen this performance live, amazing!

  • Vocalmente uno dei migliori Scarpia che abbia mai sentito. Potente, terrificante. Peccato per la scenografia, tremenda, anche se lo Scarpia-demone non e' un'idea da scartare a priori.

  • Yummy evil dude!

  • So, uh, he's my soulmate.

  • sexiness..

  • This is amazing. Such great acting as well as voice. He totally nails it. Great comic baritone but can also play thedramatic bad guys. Is Jago next??

  • @rossmcl177

I'd love Tyrfel on Iago, maybe pair him with Kauffman on Otello!

  • It was performed in 2006 by De Nederlandse Opera, I think. O.o?

  • Comment removed

  • He takes Scarpia to new levels of terror- makes him not just a thug but a truly menacing, horrific being... (shivers....)

  • Can't wait for his latest CD 'Bad Boys' where he sings this aria and other wonderful stuff!

  • @gtelloz Thanks for the heads up on that CD!

  • Terfel is not just Mozart, here he's performing a great Scarpia role! What a voice, the power and the colour! He's born to sing opera, nobody like him actually i think!

  • It's hard to imagine this great singer has been a wonderfull Leporello, an amazing Figaro, such a good Falstaff and now I find this Scarpia. Such a dreadfull character and somhow he cautivates any of us.. and frightens like a vampire when he says he forgets about God because of his obsession. Great performance, perfect voice, convincing acting!!! Thanks!!!

  • isn't it odd that 2 welshmen have you thinking of fava beans and chianti? Great performance by Bryn as usual.

    coraclewoman

  • Why does this version have me thinking of fava beans and chianti? I'd be the dot on the horizon if I were you, Tosca.

  • @VolkgartenBySquirrel HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Thanks for my laugh of the day!!!! This is a TERRIFYING Scarpia with or without the special effects!

  • @VolkgartenBySquirrel: I just got the DVD, and the only thing I can think is, I want to be Tosca, handled by him. I nearly wet myself... You have to see the whole thing, this is nothing compared to what happens in the second act... :)

  • When was this performed?

  • i think it was perfomed at 1998 .. not sure

  • Amsterdam, 1998 (Tosca: Catherine Malfitano, conducted by Riccardo Chailly)

  • This looks like the Transylvania version.

  • Amazing!

  • Awsome rendition!! Love Terfel, saw him live once and was everything i had hoped and more. His voice is almost to beautiful for Scarpia, but he does such an amazing job! Bravo Bryn
