Remember when Kristi Bradosky said in 1986 on 60 minutes that the Audi accelerated and killed her son? Do you remember George Russell Weller when he said he stepped on the brakes of his 92 Buick while killing 10 people on a sidewalk in 2003 - both of these people stated at the time the car accelerated and they tried to stop - both were completely wrong - science showed them to be at fault not the car - so please do your homework ! Science will solve this Toyota mystery, stories won't.
It's nice to see them doing something about the complaints, normal companies would just blame it on everyone else but themselves, toyota are taking the blame and offering a free fix. Toyota are a really great car manufacturer and atleast they listened.
.... The worst part is my yaris was built in Jan05, which is not listed in the recall list. I have been sitting with a car for the last 2 years that I am too scared to use and can't sell because of its problems. It started having various problems after just 2 years of age (bought from new) and Toyota refuse to claim any responsibility. I'm not sure if I have any faith left in Toyota after coming from a family who's always owned a Toyota. From my experience I will never buy one again.
Why do you keep posting this? if you are too scared to use the car (which must mean you don't know much about cars, as you could temporarily or even permanently fix it yourself), sell it.
@moonshine1571 - If you experiance problems with any product, within in its waranty you are intitled to a repair, refund or replacment under UK by law. If the franchise (incedently the waranty is with Toyota not the franchise so you can take it to another dealer or complan directly to Toyota) refuses to do one of these then contact, Citezen Advice and Trading Standards. Also remember your troubles may be unrelated to this recall.
Ref 526291. I've been fighting this problem for past 2 years. I own a Toyota Yaris 3d 1Lt MMT (2005) which has on at least two occasions accelerated without me being able to break and nearly having an crash. We sent numerous letters to ToyotaHQ and the car had been back to Toyota Inchcape in Guildford (can't recommend them) around 10 times. Toyota repeatedly DENIED a problem existed and because it's an intermittent fault the dealership couldn't replicate and said nothing was wrong...continued...
Well at least they are doing something about it. All credit to them for doing something about it. Some manufacturers will just sweep it under the carpet
people still give toyota credit? it is toyota who swept it under the carpet in the first place. nothing is worse than toyota has done in the car history.

cannonfodder9 you say they "offering an free fix. I don't think you can ask much more of them than that" . you mean people like us who owns faulty toyota should say "thank you toyota and thank you chinese government"
Toyota has poorly managed this from the start, but now are trying to get things right again.
I'm younger than Mr Williams & Mr Cho (Chairman), but Ive learnt in my short life, that if you have done something wrong. The first thing you must do is put your hand up in the air and admit your mistake/s and then work on a solution, rather then bury this into the ground, hoping no one would find out.
If you can be brave and admit your mistakes from the start, you'll be a man.
I can make an educated guess and say that America completley dramatises this rare fault by saying "don't drive your toyota" cos they want their own car industry to pick up, sorry America but you need to make your cars better
As Kibble said I admire Toyota for being open and honest and not trying to hide the issue. It's good you went onto the Today programme to explain to people the facts.
Things won't always go perfect - people need to accept that. Very few cars are affected... I heard something like 26 across Europe - your more likely to be involved in an accident than the pedal malfunctioning.
I don't care wat they say bad about Toyota they the best I'm only 19 and all cars I drove do nt drive better than toyota fuckk yall cheap ass American cars
its sad really, toyota used to be the jewel in the crown of the japanese car market which was renowned for its reliability and high quality but it seems they will be reeling from this for a long time
On 9/11, World Trade Center tower 7 fell straight down at free-fall speed through 47 floors in 6.5 seconds. Unlike twin towers 1 and 2, no plane hit tower 7. Both CNN and the BBC reported the collapse of tower 7 before it actually happened. Why is this?
all im saying is, thank you TOYOTA for being honest and taking responsibility.
there are some auto companies who knew of vehicular faults that failed to report them, killing a number of people.. but paid certain legislation to hush and fix only the cars that reported the problem (if they didnt die) and charge them for the fault. i drove a toyota. my friends drive toyotas. they last freakn long with low maintenance
This video is nothing more then damage control.Toyota knew about this problem for years and did nothing until the deaths piled up, there a joke... btw I own a Camry...never again..Bye Bye Toyota
The responses of Toyota and Mr Williams to the problem have been both proportionate and honourable.
If you don't drive a Toyota you should ask yourself if your car manufacturer would react in the same way.
From my experience, Ford (TDCi diesel injectors, Pinto rear shunt, KA rust & brakes), Fiat (1.6 16v injector and wiring loom problems) and Porsche (Boxster intermediate shaft) certainly would not.
Brand loyalty for the sake of tradition is abhorrent.
I wish the best for Toyota... Good luck from Spain :)
