Then Bristol brought out the wonderful RE. Great in its time. We ran a fleet of RELH coaches from Prittlewell (Along with the old MW 6HLW) We tried to get the MW's to cruise at 70 for the motorways.. Changer the governor springs and filed the triggers. Got 70 out of them but they boiled up,lol. So modified the fan and uprated the core on the rads. We had one with the old "LS" style body on. I think it was T351 which was known as the Pig and was given to drivers that not buy us drink at our pub.
I use to overhaul that bus at the now long gone Prittlewell Works. Gardner 5HLW Engine and a sort of 5 speed synchromesh gearbox that if the U.J's on the linkage were worn (Which they normally were) One had to open the cab door to get reverse!! The MW was a launch ship that could have been one of the great chassis of all time. Stretched and with modern air braking (Not Twizzlers too) A Volvo THD engine and 6 speed ZF or Fully Auto ZFand you would have a almost a Mk 1 B10M
