Back then, and when he was on Broadway, people used to call him a "singing prodigy" and compared him to young Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. He's not singing like a girl. He was 11-12 years old, and his voice hadn't changed yet. Back then, and when he was on Broadway, people used to call him a "singing prodigy" and compared him to young Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. (RIP) Actually, go listen to a song by the J5, see what Michael sings, compare it to this, and you'll see how similar their voices were.
