I drive a E46 M3...Some of my best times are driving on long open fast windy roads...this is boring. Only a square would join this line of rigs. And when a guy like me comes wizzing by at a buck and a quarter, looking to pass this donkey train...you better all be ready to shit your pants, cause ready or not, here I come. SPEED LAWS and Donkey Trains ARE FOR CHUMPS...PETE ROSE FOR HALL OF FAME...LONG LIVE H.S.T
This is a really cool thing. But it will never take off as a viable thing for multiple reasons: You'd, presumably, need someone driving the truck to ensure it's safe. Who's going to do that? If they remove the truck and just make it based off other cars who's to say that will be safe? You'd need every single person driving to use this system. And considering Volvo is the only car company involved, it's safe to say that won't be happening.
stupidest thing ive seen in a while. like most have already asked what happens when the truck crashes? I tell u what happens......u have a pile up of 5 more rtards who were'nt paying attention cuz they had thier noses buried in their smart phone or ipad instead of looking at the road.....talk about the blind leading the blind
Thank you very much but I wouldn't let wireless gizmos drive me around at whatever speed. One malfunction and your mangled car is being examined for what went wrong with the 'system-that-was-foolproof'. That's of course after your dead body is being pieced together on a table. And really, do I have to check my email every few minutes? Driving alone is interesting enough for me. iPads and breakfast can wait.
Except that already happens every day, but when that dead body is being pieced together on a table they don't ask what went wrong with the car... because 99% of the time you already know that some driver screwed up .
@Kovalos Agreed. But it's scary to hand over the reins completely to technology. It's machinery put together really. There's always something that can go kaput. If you have to die, you'd rather die of your own fault than having a circuit board pummel you into the wall at 90 km/hr.
I think some people have the wrong idea here, computers have the capacity to handle way way more information then we do, with enough sensors on the road itself , and the car, there is no obstacle that cant be prevented, there is no breaking reaction time, no emotional lock. Im sorry to say this but if you don't see the improvement this will make in people lives ... you're stuck in the old days .
So when the lead car crash with a moose every other car will crash into it? The only safe car is one that don´t move. It can´t be possible to build a car that is safe when it moves and if you don´t steer the car it will be more unsafe!
But.. but... I like to drive. As long as they have it where we have a choice then i'm all for it. I don't want this to be the future where it becomes so well developed that you are forced to let the car drive you by law.
I understand what you mean, but the numbers alone speak for themselves. Humans are simply not made to handle the amount of input in several driving situations. That's why you see accidents, loads of them ..every day.. killing a lot of people. But driving is fun no point in denying it, so why not drive for fun too ? where people mistakes cant harm others that just want to go from point A to point B with the comfort of a privately owned car.
@IElRedI Dude are u serious? This is awesome. I've been waiting on this day to come for a long time now. Cars that drive..... for us. Do you know how many people die in car crashes each and every year? This is awesome and I hope we all have them by year 2014 = D

@WinterInSpace it wouldn't, if road trains became the norm.

with this car you would never need a drivers licence

That's all we need, is a long train of 20 cars in a lane blocking the left lane from the exit. Silly.
