  • Beautiful music. Thank you for posting this. One question---I grew up in the PB church, and I was taught that PBs do not use pictures of Jesus, and I see one prominantly hanging in the background. Is this one of those "progressive" PB churches? I'm aware that many groups claim the name PB, while each church is independent. I am just asking which kind of PB this is.

  • @janddplus4 Thank you for your loving & kind comments about the video. This is Louisa Primitive Baptist Church which is one of 18 churches in the Mates Creek Association. There is the Lord's picture in ALL or ALMOST all of the churches that I know of. I know many orders don't like the pictures, but I feel that if it's of a MAN it will come to a NAUGHT and the Mates Creek Association was organized around 1849. God has surely blessed Mates Creek Association in every way.

  • @GitRDoneKY I personally do not approve of pictures of Jesus, because they are not pictures of Jesus. They are graven images of man's imaginations that have no place in worship. Not to chastize anyone, we are all PB bretheren in Christ, yet I can find no neutrality in the subject. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @ThePrimitivePatriot ... I respect that my dear brother. So many other people has the same opinion. I consider myself as an old-hardshell primitive baptist. I have pictures of Jesus in my home, I feel that if they were graven images, my Jesus that teaches me how to walk would let me know that they are wrong. For He is everywhere and nowhere absent. For the pictures are just reminders that we had a great friend to have a last supper or praying for us in the garden. I hope that helps...

  • @GitRDoneKY With all respect Brother, Jesus already tells us they are wrong in his word. It is good to be reminded of Christ and what he did for us, but we should not resort to idolatry in order to remember him.

  • @ThePrimitivePatriot With all respect of all the comments about the photos. We DO NOT resort to idolatry to the pictures on the walls. Therefore, we can love to be different and have different opinions. Anything can be took into as idolatry, such as any material things, money, cars, houses, even photos. Things made by the hands of man. God is a spirit, therefore we can ONLY worship Him in spirit and in truth. You can't have one without the other. That's why we have different denominations.

  • Regular but not Old Regular

  • @oldtimeway1 I've got some family in FREEWILL, thats why I asked.

  • Surprises me that the folks in these churches allow graven images on the walls of their meeting houses.

  • @oldtimeway1 Are you Freewill Baptist or Old Regular Baptist?

  • Most of these types of churches women sit separate from the men folk.

  • @foystoy Actually they sit together now. I preach for these wonderful Primitive Baptist not many churches still segregate that way.

  • This really takes me back to when I'd go to church with my Grandpa Lewallen at Rocky Fork Primative Baptist Church and with my Uncle Jerry and Aunt Wilma Thank You Lord Bless His Holy Name. There's nothing like this kind of singing.

  • That "sound of chatting and gossiping in the background" sounds like people going around hugging and fellowshipping together.

  • This form of singing goes back over 300 yrs. in this country and much longer in Wales and the British Isles

  • Why is there so much sound of chatting and gossiping in the background? People should join in the singing, or listen quietly to those who wish to sing.

  • @johnloony they're shaking hands and greeting one another.

  • @Tripp9 Usually after the sermon is over there's a final song and everyone in the congregation goes up to the preacher to shake hands and exchange a few words.

  • This brings tears to my eyes. After my dad was killed we came to live with my aunt and went to the Primitive Baptist Church with her every Sunday. I loved the way everyone hugged everybody, I got to see the foot washing once and it was awesome. Growing up in the Church of Christ was great, but seeing this makes me remember how good times were back then, people helped each other, not for gain, just love of God, Church and others! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this!

  • @agw505 Praise God!! All the PRAISE, HONOR, GLORY goes to our Father in Heaven. This kind of singing touches me in so many different ways and I truly thank you for the loving comments! It means alot to me!! I'm just so glad that so many of you like me, enjoy the singing from the Old Baptists.

  • @agw505 I agree. The PB church is truly a house of blessing.

  • The highland clearances of scotland by wealthy lowland scots and english land owners brought the praise and singing of the gaelic free kirk to the deep south since the seventeenth century as they began again.

The root of Gospel singing, direct from the old country.

  • man, that is a beautiful, beautiful sound.

  • Hey, thanks for sharing this...i am primitive baptist in Detroit mi...We sing like this also, shout every Sunday if the Lord see fit...We just move by the power of God...Praise him, praise him, praise him....

  • @Tylenryan61 Thank you so much for your loving comments! They are truly an inspiration and uplifting!! I love this kind of singing, its just so warm and a blessing to hear!! May God always pour His everlasting LOVE,PEACE,JOY,BLESSINGS upon you and your loved ones and ALL the churches and His People!

  • For those that haven't seen an Old Regular Baptist service usually the church elder men and women sit on opposite sides of the front of the church. Men and women then sit among each other farther back. I watched my Great Grandmother with her daughter-in-law, my Granny, sit across from my Papa since I was young. That is just the way you do things.

  • @aslewis72 Lined-out singing is also still done in Scotland, in the Outer Hebrides, where Gaelic is still spoken by many people as their native language. There is a beautiful video here on Youtube of a Gaelic Psalm being sung by a congregation on the Island of Lewis. You won't understand a word of the Gaelic (few people outside Scotland do), but you'll hear the beauty of the music. Search for Gaelic Psalm singing and click on the video by greenmagoos. God bless.

  • Grew up with this in Isonville, KY. Brings back a lot of memories.

  • Singing like I remember when I lived in Kentucky and went to churches in the Rock Springs Association, Mates Creek Association and the Burning Springs Association

  • Praise God. May God send His Spirit on your Church. And bless your congreation.

  • God be praised!!!

  • ...

Please tell all the brothers and sisters God Bless.

  • Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this music and faith with us!

  • No women there?

  • @mh605 Yes there is women who goes to the church too, just not seeing them with the video.

  • @mh605 Yes women were there. I saw in the video. One is at 4:31 hugging the men another at 6:06 another at 7:07 probably more during the next song. Generally, the men all go starting to shake hands first. I recall over 50 years ago all the men sat on one side and ladies on the other, they don't do that anymore, but still the men jump up first to shake :)

  • Good fellowship I see but I guess its a male dominate church, only saw 1/2 of one woman.

  • That was soooooooooooooooo awesome ....I felt the passion in the singing ..Praise Jesus

  • I wish I had a church home like this one!

  • I was thinking the Primitive Baptist were more reformed than this. Sad to see they have came this close back to Rome.

  • Trolling really isn't necessary, your pitiful attempts to bring negativity to a very spiritual video of fellowship and sweet communion has fell short in accomplishing what you desired.

You will be in my prayers.........

  • @bucfan64 i was trolling, I just noticed the pictures in the back ground and the singing of a non inspire song. I was thinking PB were more reformed than that. Great song and glad to see and hear it. Also thanks for the prayers.

  • Really, Really, Really good hymn!! I love this lined out this way! Thanks for posting!!

  • Do the Primitive Baptist shout in church like us Pentecostals do?

    P.S,

    I love the singing!!!!!!

  • Thank you for your loving comment! They really get into the preaching and the singing as well as the fellowship (alot of hugging) May God bless everyone!!!

  • @quarterhorse210 Shouting is rare in PB churches, but has occurred a few2 or 3 times in the 55 years I've gone to PB churches, generally during a sermon prayer or baptism, from my recollection.

  • passing the peace and keeping the song going. takes talent! God bless, y'all

  • thanks for preserving our musical heritage! Old as the hills...

  • This is so much like the Gaelic Psalm singing that came over from Scotland to Nova Scotia Canada. So amazing to hear this...thanks!

  • Was wondering if you know any "Keeton's". Boy, this brings back a lot of memories. The only church I ever knew that was more concerned with worship than with appearance. God bless you all brothers and sisters!

  • The 2 gentleman that rise on the left are elders from our association, Sandlick of Kentucky. Ive seen many of these brothers before that are in this video. Some were down at our association last week.

  • cant wait to see more of your posting. just cant get enough. thanks again

  • Check out the idol pictures on the wall.

    Primitive baptists? NO WAY!!!

  • I'm not sure what your comment means about the idol pictures on the wall or what your denomination is or beliefs.. but this is the Primitive Baptist Church in eastern Kentucky. This church has several churches under the Matescreek Association.. which there is alot of Primitive Baptist churches, but I've not seen any like the Matescreek Association. They are truly blessed and loving people to meet.
