  • @weirdalcrazy2timbuk3 That was a piece of pipe that just happened to have a cat in it.Its all i had at the time and has been replaced with a lorry silencer.

  • What type of air filter did you use? I would like to copy that. Lots of surface area!

  • @segarza It came from a mobile generator that the electricity company use. I cant remember what make it was. Easy breathing for the engine thou.

  • lovely setup, but if there's kids anywhere near for gods sake fit gaurds around that thing, if not for them then yourself,

  • @21trident

Guards are normally fitted but removed for filming.

  • very nice engine and generator(i think) but if i were you, i would take that silencer out (infact it looks like a cat. to me, especially designed for petrol engines runs on unleaded petrol only and works at very high temp) because it may not be good for the engine. they are not very loud anyway.

  • That bit of pipe with the cat went a long time ago. Its all i had at the time. Now its got a silencer from a lorry.

  • Hi . I have a 1942 model [ cs ] with a 3kw genset. The alternator isnt hooked up .... Where did you get your generator? I understand I HAVE to do a lot of rewiring 12/240 volts in order to get this one going. My engine is ready to work though ! Your set-up looks great !

  • Its a Chinese generator. You can get them from Stationary Engine Parts Ltd.There is a few other places that sell them as well.Sounds like you have an original gen head. Good luck with the rewiring if you are sure it needs it.

  • Great looking setup.

  • Looks all very clean and well looked after, should give you years of service.

  • I noticed a catalytic converter on your exhaust.

Are you running biodiesel or No.2 fuel oil?

I would think that the gunk build up from the diesel exhaust would foul the honeycomb of the converter, increase your fuel consumption and reduce the longevity of your exhaust valves.

    Just curiious.

  • I did not know it was a cat. Its been replaced with a lorry silencer now.

  • In my Lister 6/1 manual it says to avoid a dip in the exhaust system that would collect water and also that the further you go with it the bigger dia. it should be.Hope this helps. e-mail if you need further.Sweet set up. Paul.

  • Yes, the further you go, the bigger the diameter.

  • Since this vid was made i have increased the size of the exhaust pipe and a silencer is going to be fitted close to the engine. All the pipe work goes downhill away from the engine into a big hole underground.

  • Is it important to fit a silencer close to the engine, and do you have an allowance for draing condensation from the exhaust? +++How can yuo do this when the thing is buried?

  • Its a big hole with earth at the bottom.Any condensation will soak into the ground.Iam more worried about it filling up with soot as its concreted in

  • Lendus,

Have you any pictures of your exhaust pit? Dimension? How deep? How far from the engine? Do you use a silencer, if so how far from the exhaust is it?

  • 2700 watts at 50 hertz or 60 i dont know where you are? what is the rpm of the engine? rpm of the generator? and max power output of the generator please? oh and at full load what is the gallons per hour of fuel? i think this set up is just awesome!

  • Iam in England where its 50 hertz.Engine rpm is 650.Generator is 1500 rpm.Max output from this engine continuous 3kw.More for brief periods.I have not done any measuring of fuel consumption yet. Also since this vid was made i have started using vegetable oil for fuel.

  • i wonder how much KW that Lister could handle. I have a Kohler 45KW 3-phase for my house here in Phoenix. Runs on propane. I can hook up to natural gas too. With air conditioning thats nec here, it has to be able to do 100amps @ 120vac 60 hertz min. i wonder if there is a Lister out there that would be able to pull it, i would change the 300cu,in inline ford six for a Lister. Do you think it would pull 12000watts?

  • You can get a Indian Listeroid 2cylinder,1000 rpm engine that should give you what you want. But i would look into ways of reducing your requirements first.

  • about the only other way to reduce requirements would be to build underground. its 113F here today, its been over 110F for weeks. its the air conditioning that makes it livable but my 4 ton ac uses 2 legs of 120vac each pulling 19Amps so a total close to 40A. thats just the way it is.

  • lovely neat setup quality what did you use for the exhaust pipe outside?

  • I used bits off old street light columns.
