Translated to English: if the Dems manage to give the American people what they want (60% favor a public option) then Americans will be very happy and vote for Democrats b/c they got what they wanted, and as a republican, that makes me very sad deep in my heart, so I will call everyone who disagrees with me a socialist, even though I'm using the word incorrectly. Sigh. Whimper. Democracy is so unfair when you lose!
Health Care Reform threatens the 2 party system when 1 party is so dedicated to screwing the president for political gain regardless of the consequences to the country, that they implode in a huge negative hate ball and collapse into a singularity. They will wind up representing those 13 percent of New Jersey republicans who think Obama's the antichrist, and that's how you lose the 2 party system in America...when 1 party destroys itself.
he is right. it will be extremely difficult to maintain a two party system in america. so i guess one of them will have to go. anyone got a coin?
two party systems are highly flawed. they maintain the extremes of each side, and refuse to compromise to find the middle ground. the only options you have are the ones THEY decide you can have. the masses do not have a voice anymore in the government 'of the people'. we need a new system, and let it start with a new health care plan
mark my words, the republican party will die. then all that will be left is the democrats. as happy as that sounds, sadly it won't last. like the democratic-republican party did after defeating the federalists, the democratic party will split into the liberals and the conservatives. its already begun. the republican party no longer holds the interest of its members. but the conservative party is all to happy to step up. there will never be a party that will compromise for the best overall choice
sadly you are right. i would love for the democrats to remain a unified arty should that happen. they debate each other and try to find the best answer. even if their wheels move slow(which is better than a fast spin), they do move. however people are bred to believe that there must always be an enemy, a challenger to defeat. compromise isn't as sweet as victory. and the masses will continue to suffer from this dangerously flawed philosophy
To make it simple for you with limited educations: HarryCare is short and does not have enough girth and lacks the stamina to deliver. Now they have to insert Harry(Care) into Pelosi(Care) and what will come out of this is Obama(Care). Its the healthcare version of RoseMarys Baby!
our democracy doesn't work well with one party rule. if the republicans were not constantly at the heels of the democrats, keeping them honest, the dems would descend into greed and coruption.
the g.o.p. needs to shake off it's crazy, bigoted, hate-filled, rush limbaugh, glen beck, sean hannity wingand become a common sense party instead of a nonsense party.
if they can, the system will work better and the country will be better.
Hatch and every other politician who votes against the public option should be stripped of his/her publicly-financed health insurance. If you're gonna bash it, then you shouldn't be entitled to it.
No Mr Hatch, it doesn't threaten the two-party system, it threatens YOUR party. When people can no longer identify with your party because it stands for nothing more than corporate corruption, your party will crumble, and eventually a new one will rise to take its place.
But until that happens, yes, people will switch to the Democratic party. If that bothers you so much, why not try to offer them a better, tangible alternative to show there's still some rational, honorable Repubs left?
Hatch says that 40% (soon 50%) don't pay taxes at all. Whatever. Is he complaining that poor people aren't paying enough taxes? Because that's what it sounds like. It sounds like this so-called conservative is advocating raising taxes on the poor.
If the 2 party system is going down, good riddance. It's not as if either party is much good. The dems too often are pussies & the over-reaching GOP is destroying itself from the inside out. Neither party deserves a lock on the American people.
For the last 30 years Republicans have been pushing the pitiful syllogism that because poor people are more dependent on govt, and also tend to vote Democrat, that Democrats want to make as many people poor (and by extension dependente on govt) as possible.
The tactic has worked so well that all they have to do now is quote statistics on increasing poverty to complete their silly circular argument, which is all Hatch was doing there. It's pretty much a knee-jerk response for conservatives.
Come to an astroturf movement funded by Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, the same groups who have actively worked to convince Washington lawmakers to cut taxes and regulation for the same Big Businesses that got us into this economic shithole, while at the same time working to convince said lawmakers to RAISE taxes on Middle Class Americans to pay for the Big Business tax cuts? Look no further than who is shelling out the dough for these 'Tea Parties'.
Hatch is right about single payer healthcare threatening the American two-party system... If by the two parties you mean the Federal Government and the healthcare industry that owns over half of the members of that government. We should put the healthcare industry out of business, because we aren't getting our money's worth out of them. Talk about being taxed to death... That's what the health insurance companies do to us now, literally!
I never heard an explanation from these radical republican why Socialized medicine is evil. They are trying to make the word Socialize the new Communist, Gay, Muslim, or Liberal.
Why it is it that we never hear any one of these interviewer asking why is Health care for everyone so evil, and what does that have to do with a two party system?
These Senators are not only morons, they are bad Amercian.
I do not get why Obama is so considered with these criminals?
The reason that so many do not pay taxes is that the working class is underpaid. Raise the minimum wage to the point that workers can afford to pay bills and contribute to the tax rolls!
I keep telling you guys, the repubs will dissolve and the nationalists will take their place. When that happens, you'll be wishing for the repubs to come back.
Ugh, more fear-mongering. Uni health insurance would only slightly inconvenience the bottom lines of a small number of very wealthy insurance companies. It's not the end of the world, or the US economy, or the GOP, or even Orrin Hatch. (I mean, he's awfully calm and smarmy about something so apocalyptic ... or is it just me?)
This is basically exactly what Grover Norquist told the GOP in 1993, and repeated in Reason Magazine and later in SLATE. If Clinton had succeeded in bringing in universal health care in 1993, it would have relegated the GOP to permanent minority status. (Both parties agreed with this but for different reasons.)
But I guess Hatch didn't get the memo that he's not supposed to mention this in public, because the same thing could happen THIS time around.
Pfft... If you're backed into a corner the obvious tactic is to spew fearful rhetoric and idiotic talking points... Good job Mr. Hatch (sarcasm). I think it is incumbent upon all Americans to learn to recognise these tactics for what they are.
Anyone who believes this old fag is insane. You people need to revolt against sick efantic garbage this this geezer. The fuftre belongs to you. The Youth. You are the chosen people. Do not let people like this take away your lives for there "quick buck" system. They care NOTHING for you. Revolt.
Jeez dude, could you feed him the answers to the questions a little more OBVIOUSLY? I dont think he is getting what you want him to say quite clearly enough. I mean, why even have him there? Why dont you just ask the questions AND answer them, and Hatch can just watch? He likes to watch anyway, I've heard.
if it works, which considering no universal health care plan has ever worked without increased rationing, and lowering quality, let alone a few really bad failures, to think its going to work better ,without the negative consequences, than previous attempts is like expecting rain after a rain dance. No evidence suggests this to be likely, but on a slight chance it just may work better
What an outlandish lie. I've lived in the states for several years and the care I received there was either equal or less than the quality of care I get in Germany. I pay 550 euros for my entire family and that covers dental and all prescriptions. I pay double because I am self employed. You seriously do not know what you are talking about. There's no "rationing" of care that would be illegal and inhumane. Much like what you currently have. How's a deductable considered insurance??????
true, I'm only a Canadian living in a universal health care system we have had since the 1960's. just because its true for us doesn't mean it is for you. Or not.
All you're doing is repeating Republican talking points that have absolutely no substance.
Conservatives pretend not to listen to all those people from the countrys who have universal health care, because they love it! And conservaives ignore and deny that our system is failing and have big problems.
where do you think the republicans got it genius ? from people who live with this now. Like me. the problem is universal health care is not a solution in and of itself. It can help some middle class folks who would have had no coverage otherwise, but it doesn't solve issues surrounding the problems in both our health care system and yours
Didn't i say you argue like a conserative. All you did was make claims and provided no substance. THE REPUBLICANS DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT HEALTHCARE ! W
you said that but I don't see arguing as a conservative to be a position devoid of substance. You want substance, ok, our wait times for varying specialists here is so long, my friend has been waiting since April to see a specialist for her daughter so she can have a proper diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, so she can BEGIN treatment. to survive to 30 with CF one needs immediate attention and drug therapy. My friends daughter has lost years on her life because of Ontario's lack of health care
what I am saying is not that universal health care is bad, but that it doesn't do a good enough job as is. at least here in Canada. so as I said UHC is not a solution to shitty health care, if anything more people are exposed to shit health care through it, what we need is to find a new way, or a new structure, but something new to fix this shithole we are forced to deal with.
OK, for some reason, It posted before I finished ! To continue:
When the repubs had the house, senate and congress, healthcare was NEVER an issue. All this crap about rationing and whatever are talking points gotten from the insurance industry who want to maintain a fat paycheck.
For this issue, the republicans are absolutely under control of the insurance industry. So are many of the dems, but not to the degree of the repugs
you misunderstand me, I'm not saying dems and wrong repubs are right, I'm saying universal health care is not an end to issues of inequality, since we still have many in our universal system that is touted the world over. I'm saying this isn't and end, its just a new path with brand new challenges you didn't have before, and as such you need to prepare, but yanks are too foolish to think that far ahead. after all, both Bush and Obama passed insanely large stimulus bills both of which are corrupt
neither one had the foresight to veto bills that were laden with special interests and other bullshit that didn't support the people but the corporate monarchy. I see excuses for the dems from you but not an objective assesment of what is going on. you stick to dem talking points foolishly. do some research, I'm not feeding you shit, I'm trying to keep you educated. There are inherant drawbacks you could work to mitigate now, or wait till you feel like Massachusets later and blame "Bush"
So what Hatch is saying is that real healthcare reform would be so popular that it is in the Dems' interest to pass it. Alright then.
This is like when Repubs say that the problem with a strong public option is that it might threaten the existence of private insurers. I say, good, let's do it.
Yes, he knows that if the Dems can bring in an EFFECTIVE program that can lower health care costs for most Americans (rather than a vapid, watered-down program that does nothin), the myth "government IS the problem" will be exploded, and the GOP won't be able to run on it again. Without their "bad government" mantra they're toothless.
Hatch, however, is so senile he didn't realize he'd stated the obvious without putting the appropriate spin on it. I've never seen anybody backpeddle so fast.
