I agree with you completely. My oldest boy is a bit unusual in his mannerisms, and has been the target of quite a few haters in some of my videos. I have to block people and delete comments on a regular basis. I just discovered you the other day and was up most of last night watching the first 23 of your videos. As for haters, I agree it is a weakness of YouTube that they have not installed moderators to establish some community standards for comments. In addition to the "Spam" button, there should be a button for comments that are "Hateful" with moderators to sort through for repeat violators. Moderators could cancel accounts or block IP addresses. New accounts should not be able to post comments for awhile, perhaps 10 days.
Peter, I have to say the example you gave of inspiration for a young girl to reconnect with her grandmother was terrific - it is a wonderful legacy you are creating.

There should be some ways that youtube can monitor or allow users to self-monitor their sites. Many, many other sites (such as art sites that allow uploading of pictures, etc) allow users to self-regulate the kinds of comments and/or language allowed.

Peter, the last thing anyone wants on YouTube is censorship. That would defeat the purpose. We can all deal with the HATERS. The best way to deal with them is to simply IGNORE them. Still I wonder, that the solution you suggest, wouldn't be worse than the offence in the first place? If 'You Tube' will be just another censored place, where one has to watch his/her word, it might also take away some of the attraction as well. Peter has en important message for us here, he lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. Peter, the last thing anyone wants on YouTube is censorship. That would defeat the purpose. We can all deal with the HATERS. The best way to deal with them is to simply IGNORE them. Don't reply to their mean comments, don't close your account BECAUSE of them. My mother always said, "Ignore it and it will go away." If they are not getting a rise in you, they will go on to someone they CAN get a rise out of.

I can even envisage, to compell them to write a letter of contrition to the person they insulted the first time, to escape harsher punishment and so on and so forth. However I fully agree with you, that if a repeated unreformed offender, needs to go, it should be based on his/her IP adress and not simply his user name.

But your suggestion has its merit of course and I just suggest, that we the users, who should self-police our sites and report gross abuses. (For example, by simply marking them as spam). I also suggest a 'bit more elastic and gradual punishment system, with one or two warnings before a banishment meted out, again at the beginning only temporarily, to give opportunity to the offender to reconsider his/her offence. In my experience a lot of the abusers are simply badly behaving teens,

Dear Granpa; Obviously you have all the right to be upset about some people abusive behaviour in 'You Tube'. Still I wonder, that the solution you suggest, wouldn't be worse than the offence in the first place? If 'You Tube' will be just another censored place, where one has to watch his/her word, it might also take away some of the attraction as well. Also the issues to employ dozens of people full time around the clock, to monitor peoples' comments or input has a rather Orwellian appearance.

Sadly, the internet has allowed the inherent mean streak common in all children to flourish to new heights. Never is one so brave as when the aggressor doesn't need to face their victim or the consequences. I suspect the "haters" are the weakest among us, and this outlet allows them to pass along their real life victimhood to others. Only time and maturity will cure them.

Three of my grandparents were from Greece, and they also died too early for me to ask them about their lives. My parents, aunts, and uncles have helped tell their amazing stories. I understand your annoyance, Peter, but I don't know U-Tube could be regulated in that way. How can U-Tube ensure that people aren't going to spam people with nasty comments? There is no way to predict that, unfortunately. But I guess you could ban them if they did.

I have a simple solution.
1) all accounts tied to IP address
2) maximum of 15 video rates an hour (btw, the ave video on YT is about 3 mins long. 15x3=45 minutes)
3) only 2 comments/video, every 10 minutes
4) any account that false reports as adult/violence /ethic more then 5x week is terminated.
That should get the psychos & idiots off YT. *points them to Google Video for their kicks

Peter has en important message for us here, he lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. He used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.
