I actually gained 2 mpg. I know it doesn't sound like alot but when i was only getting about 12 to 13 mpg then that is a big help. I am up to about 16 to 17 mpg with the headers, intake and flowmaster exhaust..
@clemsontigers95 ford v8 engine in an explorer .. of course its gonna sound like the same 5.0 sounded like in trucks. this is a 5.0 high output though with a bit more power then even the mustang 5.0's
Im trying to do an engine swap... if I do, will I have to change the tranny as well? I have a 96 Explorer XLT 4.0 and I want it to sound more tougher and save me on gas....
I took a look at my headers and they seem to be easily accesible. If it was'nt too complicated on your V8 then im sure it should'nt be too difficult to install a set on my explorer. I already have a cherry bomb vortex muffler and a k&n cold air intake so its pretty loud and open already, i just want that deeper tone and rumble. I will definitley check out the gibson headers, are there any other parts that i will need or will it just bolt on to the exisiting exhaust pipes?
I've got a 98 xlt 4.0l sohc, im thinkin about getting a set of hedman hedders, thats about all i can find for the v6 and most i will spend. Im not lookin for huge jumps in performance just trying to open it up a little and make it louder. Does anyone know anything about the hedman hedders? how hard is a header installation? can it be done in a day or two with basic tools? I really dont want ot pay a mechanic hundreds of dollars if its just a simple unbolt and bolt. will any gasket work?
I haven't done a header install on a V-6 before but I would think it would be a little easier then the install on my V-8. You may want to take a look at Gibson headers for your 4.0. The header itself isn't going to give you the sound you want. You'll need to get a different muffler for that. The header install I did involved basic hand tools and a swivel socket set from Harbor Freight. As for the gasket I recommend Fel-pro gaskets over anything else.
this ex would sound even more wicked with a cam in it...i got the stock headers in my 98....with dual super 44's runnin on only 2 cats cut off right before the diff on mine---love it!!
dude thats sick :D

BADASS.. I wish I could afford a set of torque monster headers.. I'm getting ready to run a manifold back 3" dual exhaust on my v8 sport.

What size are those wheels and can you burn them?
iizRoCkrzii34 8 months ago
@iizRoCkrzii34
I had 18's now I have 20's. And no I can't "burn" them because the Explorer is AWD.

Dude nice engine. Mine looks like it was dipped in mud and left to rust before it was put back in my car lol.

Nice sound. I've got a Magnaflow exhaust and a MAC intake in my 5.0 X. I really want to put these on.

man that sounds great, i wish mine sounded that deep

i cant do too much with mine, but changing the exhaust pipe or muffler would do the job of better muscle sound?
ka12091990 2 years ago
It would help depending on which muffler you get and be the main factor in the sound you will get.

really nice explorer you got there what wheels are those and how big?
Dizzles 2 years ago
They are 18x8.5" MB Motoring Kane wheels with 255/55/18 tires. Those are Nitto tires in the video but I know have Sumitomo HTR Sport tires
2kv8 2 years ago
i have 18x9 saleen rims 255/55/18 lower 2 inches, and handles like my rx7, well maybe not that good but way better than stock.
iamxeddiex 2 years ago
what makes that muscle sound. the exhaust or muffler? cuz i got my 5.0L explorer and the sound is good and all, but i want a better sound.
ka12091990 2 years ago
It's a combination of the muffler and the headers.
