@McChuugy God was the same place that he is now. God doesn't stop everything bad from happening. People make mistakes, the technology was pretty primitive compared to today, etc. Reading on the net, there were so many things that added to make this the tragedy it was. I remember hearing about this when it happened. I was 9 and had recently moved to Calif. from southwestern Michigan, very close to Chicago. It broke my heart and I have never forgotten about this.
