  • SWEET K5!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this video! I've added it to my "Best of Amtrak" playlist- keep up the good work!

  • ah the smell of diesel fuel burning , the loud engine passing by , the click clack of the shoes , NO ditchlights and the amazing KL5A ringing in your ear , nothing else but the F-40PH

  • Great footage...hope you were wearing blaze orange.

"The only difference is today's Empire Builder has one more SEA coach than 1985, and one less baggage car. Otherwise things are that same as winter 1985...."

Gone too is the ex Santa Fe Hi-Level "Step Down" transition dorm (behind the baggage cars with the Sleepy Hollow seats) where conductor Jack set up his case. Amtrak now places coaches between the Seattle bound diner and the Portland bound lounge.

  • Look at all those Phase II Superliners! Great shot!

  • @EverywhereWest Thanks, enjoy the old times with a younger Amtrak.

  • These were the days before the MHC's.

  • @ma7799 Yes, but now they are all gone.

  • I miss those F40s.

  • Amtrak trains aren't really as short as they used to be.

  • @Amtrak1194 And how short did they used to be? This train is 10 cars, 3 engines, today's Amtrak (off season now) is 10 cars. The only difference is today's Empire Builder has one more SEA coach than 1985, and one less baggage car. Otherwise things are that same as winter 1985....

  • @Amtrak1194 Check the Florida trains.

  • Was this shot with film or video?

  • Full size VHS video tape.

  • this is a classic

  • @Xnewyork2 Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Awesome!

  • @deathstarmygnr Thanks. Enjoy.
