Yah, the director of that show's favorite band is the Chilis and he based some of the characters off of them. If you notice John and the guitar player (can't recall the guys name) from the show have somewhat similar appearances. He also wears a shirt in some episodes that say Red Hot Chili (something). I guess they had to change the name due to copyright.
