@EnigmaXIII the truth is that macs are less secure than windows, it's just that nobody uses macs for anything, so there are no viruses written for them. Now before you say something stupid, linux does have plenty of viruses written for it, it does after all dominate the server market. Also I have had windows boxes that I have never used for porn (or much of anything), that have gotten viruses.
@aziliks i didnt know Linux could crash, IBM uses it for it for there most powerful supercomputers and its almost 100% reliable WTF were you doing to it?!?!?!
All of you with Linux and Ubuntu saying it doesn't get viruses and doesn't crash... and saying that windows computers do... that is not fair. I don't have any antivirus software on my windows 7 laptop and I safely browse and don't get viruses. I have yet to have a crash. So Linux and Ubuntu users be quiet and pay attention to windows. They have become truly awesome.
@Ap3WD I agree with you except for your statement on "eye candy." You don't need that for Linux to be productive, most businesses that use Linux based servers decide to omit X Windows - making them console only. I know how to use every part of a Linux system via the console. Compiz is just a package to provide eye candy if you want eye candy. Some don't want it and just don't use it.
@Catz0125 Windows IS the virus.. ya.. truly awesome.. you can shake a windows and others disappear.. wait thats not a new feature!.. Shaking windows has always caused others to crash under windows LOL

I like Slackware more, Ubuntu is easier to set up, but you're not really in charge of your system. Linux Mint is better IMO, it uses Ubuntu's repositories and works out of the box with many codecs, and downloads drivers for itself. No need to install them manually :)
I agree with your opinion about Linux Mint, it is a very good OS and has an edge over Ubuntu since it works out of the box for multi-media. God for new comers to Linux. Plus it has the best support from both Ubuntu and Mint since it is after all based on Ubuntu distro.
i use ubuntu 9.10 currently, but i kind of want to try mint. how is slackware different from ubuntu? as in noticable differences. I have a spare box that I can play around with.
I like Linux in general. I've never tried Slackware, is it Debian based?
But anyway, I used Mint, I like the way it looks, but I ran into problems, little problems, but problems, and I realize you run into problems everywhere, but I had more here.
What is this slackware I hear so much good things about though? I'm aware it's Linux of course :p
Nice, it would need a bit of polishing to be a startup screen, like giving it the shiny kind of look like on the current startup.. And a black background.
Cool! Nothing says it more than "Change your way of thinking"! Its what PC users need to do to experience the freedom, savings, and power or Linux & Ubuntu.
I'm really flexible when it comes to the choice of OS, I use Windows, OSX and AmigaOS every day, but I just can't help it - I got my first grey hairs from working with Ubuntu :D
Big software companies don't develop software for linux cause there's a huge money interst and an exclusivity owned by micro$oft. For example, some games that are based on windows use the windows kernel tu run, this thing is patented by MS so the game is not able to run on linux.
Any privative program u use (except high end development) already has a counterpart in open source or free version, just use google ;)
can someone tell me why big software companys are not writting for linux?, why don't they start making linux versions of their software and sellling it as they would windows? as soon as this happens im moving to linux, please tell me someone as I have spent 2 hours googling and cant find out, reply to this comment!. thanks in advanced.
Most Linuxes have a huge repository of software available for easy installation, fulfilling quite a lot of needs. What kind of programs do you need? I'm sure in many cases there are options available, as MullenThomas said. Of course you may not find that very specific program made by that specific manufacturer, but alternatives are usually abundant in the repositories.
You know it looks ok but you should like add sounds to it maybe when a circle passes on top of the other and change the slogan to Ubuntu's slogan "Humanity to Others" :)
that would be sweeeet after a commercial for Ubuntu...u know how playstation ads have the ps2 or ps3 logo and some sort of flash effects. awsome job! the only advise i have is have the logo start at the center of the page and do the rotating thing and then move it to the left and have the "Ubuntu" come in while its moving...great work
going to rip this and make it my boot screen

@aziliks first, linux is not linux;) there are over 500 Distros! It looks that you used Ubuntu;P
well, ubuntu 10.10 doesn't work on my notebook also;) but 10.04 runs really smooth.
just try some other distros, OpenSuSE, or Linux Mint (Linux Mint is Ubuntu based;)), fedora or maybe jolicloud;)
just look around and you will find what's the best for you;)

Change YOUR Way Of Thinknig!
I changed my opinion if I payd around 300 Dollars for a Windows 7 for 2 PC's!! 300 $?!
That was too much for me, I've changed it back and I've installed now Ubuntu on every Computer that I have! No more Windows!

@Catz0125
That's not only about viruses and crash.
Linux is free.
- It doesn't costs money.
-The ideas, the software belong to everyone.
The day where i'll be able to look at the source code of a Windows OS, then I'll maybe use Windows.
Personally I think Linux is really more eye candy (see Compiz)
It's faster, lighter, so cool !
By the way, I agree with you, people are boring when they say "OMG LINUX LOL LOL LINUX > WINDOWS > 9000 LOL LOL TUX TUX KILL BILL WINDOWS SUCKS"
(my english sucks)
