Oh... if you're upgrading from the 7900, then you'll definitely notice the performance increase. If you can choose between the 260 and the core 216, definitely go with the 216.
It's better than the cheaper GTX 260. However, if you currenty have a GTX 260 and plan to upgrade to the cores 216 you're not going to see enough of a performance bump to justify the cost.
It depends on your definition of worth. -- Will it be faster? Yes. However, in going between a 8800gt and a Core 216 you may find that other parts of your system are bottlenecking your performance. Look for 3D Mark benchmarks that are close to your setup as possible.
i have chosen 2 cards.which one is the best EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Video Card 896MB DDR3 Vs XFX Radeon HD 4870 Video Card 1024MB GDDR5 these are the 2 cards 4870 has GDDr5 but 256 bit color and 260 has 448 bit colors i guess so please tell me which 1 is better 4870 has 1 Gb ddr3 memo but 260 has 896 memory but ddr3 which 1 is better for gaming i mean i want them for gaming better in performance which one is the best 4870 has good core clock as well as memory clock.on 19" monitor
I don't get you anti-Christian types. It's not like his show is about his faith. He does really good reviews of technology and the only time he even MENTIONS his religion is at the very start and very end of the episode.
What brings you people out of the woodwork? If YOU were doing reviews of tech would it be ok if I wrote "supercharge your system with the new douche powered 260 core 216!"
Grow up and get some respect. Not for his religion, but for the fact that he's a real geek.
oh so you must be the type that comes to conclusions super fast (maybe even faster than the 280), in case you couldn't guess, what Ive typed below was a something called a joke. i have nothing against this man or his beliefs because i am Christan, for you to think im not a geek is a huge mistake on your part. i am a overclocker. i attain a 3dmark06 score of over 20,000 with two old g80 8800 gts cards(now in heaven) looking to upgrade to the core 216 (to torture them). 411overkill . com
by the way, visit our overclocking site, 411overkill . com. its an excellent source for overclocking info and help with some of the best that work with EVGA and other big name manufacturers, were not racist there also, so ati fans are included as well.
Not really. Pricegrabber has the cheapest 9800 GTX at $174. The GTX 260 runs ~$300. The 9800 GTX doesn't perform as well as the dual 8800 GTX cards we had in our test system, and the single GTX 260 came close to besting that 3D Mark score. -- Dual 9800 GTXs WILL perform better, but they will also cost more and get smoked by a dual GTX 260 once the price comes down.
You could possibly squeeze by with a 600 Watt PSU, but remember that many no-name PSUs don't really provide what they say they will. That's why I like a lot of headroom.
Still, if you're not running much else in the system. (i.e. a single 7200rpm hard drive, one optical drive, etc.) it will probably work. Peace, Fr. Robert
thats what im running and im thinking maybe a ati radeon 4870x2 as ive read alot about it being good but not to sure but ive heard it a huge power hog. im thinking on upgrading my psu soon to a 800watt and and its a ultra 600W
those video cards are pretty but are way too power innificient and bad for the environment video card companies need to start making mobility cards for mini itx boards cuz this power drainage also leads to utility bill extortion.
Kinda true... when they are really pushing out the pixels they do suck up a lot of juice, but most graphics parts will throttle down their appetite when they're not really using their 3D functions. -- Also, there are plenty of places within a PC that could save MORE power. Start with a more efficient PS, SSD storage, motherboards that REALLY take advantage of the power features built into the CPU... now THERE'S some savings! Peace, Fr. Robert
Man... I would love to have a computer that could actually run a card like this. The newest desktop I have is from six years ago. -_- It doesn't even a PCI x16 slot and runs on DDR 1.
I didn't think Gadgets would do these sorts of reviews when I saw it on my front page, but I guess it's a special request so I was supposed to be surprised.
I personally got an old GTX 260 and recieved it a day before the new cards came out. I don't mind though, I got it for $219.99 AR and it came with Crysis, so better bang for the buck there. I didn't even think I was going with that before, I had my sights set on things like the 4879 and the like, but the price jus twon me over. :)
We're probably going to see more and more of these types of reviews. I'm still going to look for a certain "odd" bend to the products I choose, but there has definitely been a cry for more "performance geek" stuff --- so here it is!
The thing about graphics cards is that they grow old, fast. That's why I typically will not go for the higest of the high-end. I like to pull it back a notch and take slightly lower performance numbers at a more reasonable price.
As for your point about going a rung or two lower from the top, I agree wholeheartedly, especially this generation. This latest batch of cards offer major bang for the buck all the up to just under 300 dollars. Past that and what you get for each additional dollar you spend goes down pretty dramatically.

i said the HD is more cash than the 260 core 216 with the same benchmarks.

The programming side is LOVELY! Just have to say that to any small scale programmers
It's a dream! but i'm only on a 9800gt
But my question is what's the exact dimensions? from the bottom of the DVI slots to the very end of it?
Thanks

500W is fine. I dont know why everyone is buying 800-1000W PS's. Buy a watt meter.
E6600
GTX260
8x1TB Western Digitals (RAID5)
Only draws 300Watts Total during boot up... The looks on all yous 800W PS owners... PRICELESS...
JoeVSvolcano 3 years ago
well, all you need to run quad sli at the moment is 880 watt. no 900-1200 watt psu needed, and thats with the super quad core
Jay12341235 3 years ago
obviously you have set your watt meter to the wrong type because there is no way that is possible
GlycerinZ 3 years ago
JoeVSvolcano.
The actual power draw from the 260 under load is 290-320W
Your processor will draw about 120W
And your hard drive only about 30W
So for this you do need a 500W minimum (600+ to be safe)

I wouldn't bet on a 550watt PS... You may want to upgrade that before you drop in the GTX 260.
