Well that's interesting. I run a dual boot on my MacBook Pro 17" (Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz) and while trying to boot into OS X does this, I can boot just fine into Windows. I don't think this is limited to a hard drive problem, even though in your case it happened to be.
Today I had this problem and when I called Apple's tech support they suggested that I do two different things. One worked for me and one didn't so I suggest you try both.
Method 1- When first trying to boot up hold down "Command, P, R" all at the same time until the startup chime has sounded twice. then release and let the computer do it's thing.
Method 2- When first trying to boot up, hold down "Shift" and wait until a progress bar appears under the Apple logo.
Here is how to fix this problem (SUBSCRIBE to me, 1234567abc3 if this helps you)
I recommend when you are done following these steps, you run a software update and install all of the updates listed. This is not required but I do recommend you do this. Also, if this does not work (it WILL work, it worked for me) you must follow along from steps 1-3 and then just click continue for reinstalling Mac OS X
1. Turn on the computer and insert your Mac OS X Install DVD and then shutdown the computer.
2. Turn on the computer holding down the OPTION key until you see the cursor. Use the arrow keys and enter key to select the DVD icon labeled Mac OS X Install DVD.
3. Then it will bring you to a screen that says choose language. (It may take a few minutes to get to that screen) (ignore the preparing installation thing because you are NOT restoring the computer
Ive inserted my mac osx snow leopard disc , and I keep holding down option till the cursor comes up but it just stays on the blue flickering screen. And now the disk wont eject etheir
@1234567abc3 Ive inserted my mac osx snow leopard disc , and I keep holding down option till the cursor comes up but it just stays on the blue flickering screen. And now the disk wont eject etheir
4. Once you get to the Install Mac OS X screen go up to utilities and click disk utility
5. From the sidebar click on Macintosh HD.
6. Click the first aid tab and find the button that says Repair Disk Permissions and wait until the bar gets to the end and it says in the activity box it says permission repair complete.
@1234567abc3 Never repair disk permissions from the disc. Only run from the OS itself, because it has the most up to date version of the permissions. Instead you need to run repair disk.
@ccaccord07 no, im gonna use time machine on it after booting up with the option key , and see if i can transfer files, its gonna take forever but , that data is worth it
hey we have similar problem, but after that alternate light/dark blue screen with a mouse pointer, but before that i am just playing then after i shut down, after a few minutes my mom open it and she say that it is very slow ,i use safe mode and it opened, but after a few days my mom opened it and backed to normal. what is that problem at this macbook!?
force shut down. restart power, apon hearing the opening chime press command and S at the same time, then write in fsk -fy this will repair your disk drive and aopn prompt type in reboot
Mines doing the same thing.. You said on another comment you got your things back.. Did you have a backup hard drive or were the tech guys able to retrieve it?
I had a similar problem once with my late 2009 unibody white MacBook.
It would boot and come to a blue screen with a spinning gear thing (like the one under the Apple startup logo) and the blue would get darker then brighter and it would repeat.
I called Apple and they helped me fix it right there for free.
I had this problem after I copied ALOT of music onto my hardrive. I fixed it by starting it up in safe mode (hold shift down after you turn it on, until the wheel comes up, and usually a progress bar) and deleting everything on my hard drive that I could (most of my stuff is backed up). After this, I restarted, and it worked fine, but took a while, so patience is definitely needed. I hope this works for other people too.
Ok-the same thing JUST happened to my Macbook. What is the problem?? I start up my computer and it comes on like normal, showing the apple sign, then it turns blue for about 3-4 minutes and then shuts up. I'm completely stressing. I need my computer in almost all my classes and I have everything on my harddrive. If anyone could send me a message with a solution or advice on what to do, that would be GREAT!!!!!
This is the second video I have come across with your completely wrong comments. You obviously fancy yourself as a mac whiz, but have miserably failed in the process. It is probably a failure of your graphics chip, PRAM, or something else to do with graphics/data proccessing. Maybe you should take it in for repair. It's less risky than trying a method of repair yourself.
k I am very good at mac so i suggest this problem is a hard disk problem meaning it has too much files or data in it .you just need to put mac os x disk or recover disk(i'll send you maybe)and format the drive...but your hard disk will be erased cannont recovr
I had the same problem and When I saw the manual here's the instructions: turn off, than press the power button just a click and rapidly press option, apple or command, "r" and "p" tat will make your RAM start again.. or something like that, the important thing is that worked for me... u should try it.. good luck!
same here it is an encoding problem i still have problems with it i have to reinstall my softwear every few days so im nearly fucking through with apple i paid 1775 dollars out of my pocket and it has been nothing but trouble so idk going to apple store soon its been a real bitch
If anyone can reply to this with any thaughts, i would be gratefull. On my screen, there is a part at the bottom that is slightly grey in a kind of hoop. I don't know if this is normal or not.
i' having this same problem... i bought my macbook off of ebay about a month ago and it's worked perfectly until today where it won't fully boot it leaves me at that blue screen of death. is there anyone who could possibly help me?!!!
@enjidoteu hey since my disk drive is messed up and i also have my harddrive failure is there anyway i can fix my problem? and i don have time machine so yea... :(
@mark4power Lol... And then get a friggen virus on your computer just by starting it on. No way, idk if you either seem to think that macs are from 20 years ago. Just by the latest model and you won't have these kind of problems....
Thanks for looking I have now resolved this issue with a new hard drive and blank installation of Leopard. If you have a similar problem please still leave a comment or upload a response and I'm sure someone can direct you to a related article.
