NO WAY!! That's (relatively) the same set up as my main personal sound! The metal channel on my Line 6 Micro Spider is modeled after the Mesa Boogie Dual Rec and I use a Maxon 808 in front of it for my KSE metal sound. I found it because Adam D uses the 808 on his rig for the same effect Devin mentions. It helps boost tone amazingly; Keep the OD low and crank the output.

@FretlessDeviant its a standard esp telecaster but with a maple neck and a pair of emg 81's, esp will make a custom for you at a fairly high price but if your low on money id go for a white cheaper brand tele like a squire of a mexican tele and fit a pair of emg81's as long as it has a maple neck and alder body it should some fairly similar but it wont have the esp tag but any devin will recognise what guitar your after :P

I'd go with the acoustic first, it'll be a little harder to handle than an electric, and it will force you to learn some concepts that you might not go over if you jump to electric too soon. (It's just too tempting to turn up the distortion.)
