Mason was brainwashed to kill JFK, but Reznov screwed with Mason so he would kill Dragovich, Steiner and Kravchenko, however Reznov didn't stop Mason from killing JFK so for Mason he had to kill JFK, AS WELL, as Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner.

Mason was brainwash to eliminate the president but reznov sabatoged it. Reznov made it so that mason only kills 3 main people, Kravchenko, Dragovich, and Steiner. Then at the rewind, Hudson and Mason saw each other and knew what was going to happen then.
