met David twice, superb man, soooo funny,a real joker...saw him in full concert since Diamond Dogs,Toronto,Canada, that was a matinee show and an eve show, and the rest is 28 concerts later...
First time i heard this was on a school trip to Hamburg in 1975, we sneaked off with this cool german teacher who took us to a great little club where his girlfriend worked, 16 years of age, Ciggys, Beer, Bowie, and girls with no bras on, Bliss..............
Lady Gaga, Madonna owe Bowie a big vote of thanks, its obvious they've stolen a lot of their ideas from him. They owe their careers to him. Too bad they only have 10% of his musical ability. Gaga & Madonna are all style and no substance. Bowie has both style and substance going for him ....
Bowie just kicks ass. Michael Jackson gets a lot of credit as the King of Pop, and deservingly so. But I think David Bowie doesn't get enough credit in that regard. Just look at his work over the last forty years; it is diverse, creative, popular and it stands the test of time. He is one of pop music's greatest stars.
@FranklyMsShankley No! Shit I just meant fuckin gaga and bullshit!! Arctic Monkeys and Modest Mouse are two of my favourite bands. I just prefer that generation of music.
I hate when these stupid kids call Bowie Gay. They don't get it. He was amazing during this period. Bowie live from the tower theater was awesome(If you can find it)
They should be playing Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, The Velvet Underground all the greats on the radio not Lady Gaga (a bowie wannabe btw) and all this f*cking Jedward. Jonas Brothers sh*t!!! And I'm 14 I'll be 15 in september and I know very few people who like this music. But a true rock n' roll song hasn't come out in two decades it's all been either Pop, Rap or Punk Rock.
I remember buying this album when it came out and people were pretty much horrified when i opened the jacket to see bowies diamond dog- i think the only other time anything even close to the same reaction was when i was 1st in line to buy Never mind the Bollcks Funny how shit changes/stays the same
You asked for the latest party..." If you're a budding songwriter today, do you read that and get inspired or just give up and work security?! Fucking brilliant writer, that David.
'Diamond Dogs' ... Another of David's 'perfect' albums ... second only to 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' on my all time list.
I went to all the Bowie concerts in Montreal and a couple in Ottawa, during his Diamond Dogs era.. wore zig zag glitter on my face, got put on TV, got backstage - didn;t get to meet him - alas! but met "the band". Very cool times.
I hear ya! Saw Bowie at least 5 times in the day - in Montreal - every concert was SO excellent. Saw him through all his transitions, and his music remained excellent from the beginning to the last
Tell me about it, my parents love Bowie, woot! So I got to listen to him during my teens. :D So glad I did, Led Zeppelin and The beatles etc. are epic.
when I was 10 my brother often played this awesome Bowie track from the "changesonebowie" LP track. Now I'm 41 and it still belongs for me to one of the best rock tracks the 70s ever had. It makes me believe in one thing: Rock'n'Roll will never die! Thanks David! And thanks to you ferae11 for postin' this awesome David song!! 5 stars to you from germany.... keep on rockin' man!!!
David played guitar on this song, as a kid 14 when I bought this at k mart for 4.99 it changed my life! Its so Orwellian! I never heard anything like it in 1974 I wore it out and tossed the boring old blues records I had and changed my hair and wore makeup-bitchen!
Diamond Dogs was a concept album based on a dystopian future and includes songs like '1984' and 'Big Brother" (amazing track, that). Bowie wanted to create a stage adaptation of Orwell's '1984', but couldn't get the rights.
I remember when Bowie ditched the Ziggy persona and started wearing the 40s style suits. I always thought he had the look of a female cross-dresser. Ha ha. It was ironically weird. Love the Brown Sugar style saxes on this one.
I was just sitting here thinking of some old songs and this one popped in my head as an old fav, bowie is one of a kind and did whatever he wanted and was accepted for it
My gosh, I don't even remember posting that! I still agree, though. Anyway, is it just my very tired brain, or do I hear a metronome in the background?
