All these new glasses-free 3D displays are each logical progressions to realistic holographic displays, which will inevitably be the "end-game" for all displays. There's literally no better display than realistic holography in which it looks like the images are standing right in your living room, instead of on a screen. It will give a whole new meaning to porn lol
I hope we get to see this within the next 20 years - I'm pretty certain we will.
If I was nintendo I'd buy the rights to this patent for the next generation: by then it should at least be feasible enough for mass production and consumer use.
@MammalAnonymous This is not true, digital holography is too hard, high resolution displays and integral imaging is the way to go, just look at the lytro.
I think I will just wait for holograms...

Truly an "HD" experience right there... =I
Come on! They've had this technology since the late 40's you guys. Ever seen those "Hologram" images?
EXACT SAME PRINCIPLE, but with video images instead of printed images.
Even the one with less lenses would take up 50x the power of a normal television if you wanted similar quality.
Even then, the image would be 100% static on the TV unless you enjoy constantly moving your head around while watching your favourite movies.

In the future we will watch entertainment through a big box in the room, and who says history doesn't repeat it self, lol.

We can assume this won't have a domestic use. You won't sit on your couch and walk around the room just to see the edges of the objects.

@HOLYCHAOSDRAGON this is a primitive, unoriginal and crude means of achieving this effect
