Hey, ok i have to have this surgery next month from my over bite and im completely nervous!! Were you in school when you had your surgery? and if so how many days did you miss? I am only required to miss 3 days!
I just had surgery on December 23rd. I got to say the recovery isn't bad at all. The problems was the first couple of days getting used to it and trying to drink. And sometimes having a little trouble breathing but it gets better after a couple of days. There was bearly any pain at all and a lot of swelling going on for the next week or two. The only major problem. Well for me actually. Is the part where your not able to eat for about 4 weeks. xD In my opinion. The surgery is worth it.
good evening, (or morning depending on what timezone you live in)
glad to hear that your surgery went well
if I may ask how long did it take you to start eating solid like foods without trouble? I had mine done 4 weeks ago and was curious appx how much longer till I can eat my favs again
i have quite a bad underbite myself, and my orthodontist is pushing me to go for a 4 hour surgery but i'm just really worried about the actual op and the recovery period after (mine will be 6 weeks). how did your recovery go? did you have any numbness in the lip/chin area? thank you!
@CoreysMaggot92 Hi, I would absolutely recommend that you get the orthognathic surgery that your orthodontist is recommending! You will be able to chew better, have healthier teeth and have a better looking smile for it.
Recovery was really pretty easy overall. The the first day after you will be able to walk around normally. Your teeth are wired (rubber-banded) shut for about 1-2 weeks. It's soft food for a month from there. It's really not painful, just a lot of dull soreness for a few days

hey .... ....! i will b having jaw surgeory probably in october next year .... so can u plz give some details abt it if u dont mind ......... plz reply k ?
ohh thnx ...! i want to know how much misery u had gone through just after surgery ..... ? have u recovered now completely? are you repenting for the procedure u had gone through ?
@sinchu95 As far as misery goes, the first two days are the worst by far. You basically just feel uncomfortable but this is normal because this is a pretty major procedure. But whats a few days of ill health compared to a lifetime of having a perfect bite. I have pretty much recovered completely as of now. I just have to wear some bands during the day and night but thats about it. I have absolutely no regrets for getting this procedure done. Any other questions you have for me?
@gamehack no since you are so young your dentist should be able to fix your jaw with braces, this surgery is more for extreme cases or for people like me who braces didn't work for
ooh I'd really like to know where he got those syringes with the little tubes in front. I'm in day 9 after surgery and I'm trying to look for more efficient ways to eat.
just had my surgery june 7th 2011... first day was ok. doc wanted to realease me 2 hours after surgery but i wanted to stay in hospital 1 night in case something came up. I had 2 jaw surgery. second day i could not breathe thru my mouth or nose really good because but i was freaking out more then anything. it wasnt no big deal. i cleaned up my nose today and i can breather hell good. im excited. No pain at all and theres barely any swelling.
I've had an underbite for 3 years now. I'm due my corrective surgery next year. I'm 18 years old and I'm really depressed because of it. These videos however really help me, thanks for uploading them. It's so nice and reassuring the hear people speak so positively about the surgery. I don't feel alone in it anymore, thanks..
@leannewoodfull i just had my surgery two days ago, (june 15th 2011). i am twenty years old, i'll be twenty one in about a month, i was depressed about two years ago about my bite (when i was 18) i felt alone as well. now after getting the surgery and beginning recovery i have a little advice. first make sure you trust your oral surgeon. and second underbites are not very noticable except to the people who actually have them. the thing i was most afraid of was surgery, now its over and better
@sahar1usa hey i had this surgery two days ago. the pain is tolerable with medication. i'm 20 years old and used to do heroin when i was younger, so my mom didnt want me to have any pain killers but i did and i'm glad to say that they worked well even for someone like myself who had developed a tolerance to drugs over the years. the most challenging thing i would say now looking back on it is finding a good doctor. alot of doctor's are not considerate about issues like pain or nervousness. trust
i had jaw surgery to correct an underbite as well and my mouth wasn't held shut at all but i wasn't allowed to chew food for 8 weeks which was AWFUL. i was also WAY more swollen than you haha. OHIP payed for half my surgery cuz it was considered "cosmetic" which is stupid... it's not cosmetic when you're trying to CHEW properly! lol
I was told at 15 id need to have this done...had braces for over a year but bottled out of the surgery...im nearly 22 now...back then though i never received the jaw aches, had breathing problems or got migraines and regular gum disease at the bits i cant reach with a toothbrush...Classic symptoms that something needs to be done. Oh i hated having braces but i suppose its necessary. I am terrified of needles though and dentists and im sure dentists are terrified of me also.

ah...thinking of gettin it done but seems like ud be outta socialising for weeks? how long did it take till u could talk and be comfortable with the movements n all that?
did u pay for this out of pocket or did the insurance company cover for you? i heard it costs a lot and i dont think i'll be able to afford it without insurance
@auburnaggie The cost of treatment will depend a lot on the specific treatment you need. The best way to find this out is to go to the oral surgeon or dentist for a consultation. They will be able to find out all the costs before anything is final. Consultations are usually not too costly. The best approach is to ask your general/family dentist where to start.
OMG GOD I lost my desire to have surgery lol, well not in the jaw a little to be is this so bad, I fear, only to see the video almost slipped into a coma lol
i would like to know about being "tubed", did it go in after you were put to sleep? and was it taken out before you woke up? i was told they take it out while your awake? and i just wanted to know about that and how you dealt with it?
@progreenplanet I had to have a second surgery because they made a slight mistake on the first placing a plastic cheekbone wrong. I also have permenant loss of feeling in my lower jaw due to nerve damage from when they broke my bottom jaw, there is a main nerve that goes along the bottom jaw. I get along just fine without the feeling, just have to be aware of drooling and when I eat....my friends understand and help me when I don't know. With all this being said, I would definately do it again
hey. im getting my surgery in 2012. just before i turn 18...how long would you have to be in hospital after your surgery? Im going in to get my jaw expanded and have my lower jaw brought forward
Thank you for doing this video-my daughter is scheduled for the same surgery, same reason, in December this year. I was very anxious about what to expect-but your video progress has put me at ease. Any way to get some of your mom's recipes??:)
@buchey Okay then. Thats good news. I think I would prefer to leave them they aswell. because I am now 26 and my face should stay at this size for the rest of my life.
Thanks for your reply. I've watched your videos heaps of time and it gave me inspirations to go through with my surgery.
@Keveo ......I just had mine done 4 weeks ago.....I feel great....but no metal plates or screws.....all titanium based..... will never need to come back out.....not sure why your surgeon put metal inside you (not good) .....maybe this is why he wants to take them out after a year...... must be a good reason..... did you have a Leforte 1, 2 or both done ? Wish you a speedy recovery...... you will feel great in the next few weeks.... ! Good Luck !!

@Keveo What! I had my surgery 10 years ago and I still have all my plates and screws. The Dr. said it would be worse to remove them. Get a second opinion! I have 41 screws, 7 metal plates, and 2 plastic cheek-bones.
@boogle101 yes most likely you would. Braces are needed in order to align the teeth so that they will fit properly at the time of surgery. Also they are needed after the surgery to fine tune everything.
im about 4 months into my pre-op treatment and should be getting it done around summer 2011, glad everything went so well for you! everything looks all good!
i have a question... I jus got my surgery Wednesday on my lower jaw.... did u experience mumbness on ur chin nd lower lip>> ? if so how long? i jus got over mine nd i kno i shuddt expect much bt can u help me out sum?? also was the roof of ur mouth numb too??? thnk u very much my dude..
I see you have had this dine 2 yrs ago. I just had it done last month and also have to agree that it was though a incredible pain- I am so glad with the results. Did not realize that this surgery was so frequently done. COngrats and I hope you are still happy with your fab smile:) Cant wait to see mine
i had an overbite, lower jaw surgery on august 14th 2010, i couldn't brush for like a week cuz of all the swelling, the fact my face was still numbl and i was still healing so i did not want to bother the stitching.
now i almost back to normal, where they cut on both sides, there inflammation and it a real pain to try and get rid of, my surgeon just says brush as mush as possible, but with school it hard to, any suggestions?
@cupcakegirl4ever Yeah everything went well. TGhe first week is teh wrost but it just keeps getting better and better after that. Take it day by day, I would recommend children's liquid advil and dimetapp if you have any congestion. good luck
I had this done 4 days ago. So far... It sucks! I don't really feel that much pain, but the pressure on my cheeks, ears and sinuses is really annoying! My head is also really swollen! My lips feel like they are gonna burst!
The hardest part is not being able to open your mouth. I remember waking up and wanting to yawn, but I can't :(
Hey im having this operation in two months. I just wanted to know when you were speaking at about 1.34. How long did you speak like that for, was it untill the whole recovery time?
Also how did you eat for the first week when they were really wired shut?
So how long before you were off pain meds (prescription?) Did you have upper and lower surgery, or just the lower? Thanks for posting the vid. I'm scheduled for both.
Hey dude, Just want to say, U are a brave guy. After knowing the risk of nerve damage and still baring the risk for beauty, it is a thing worth to admire!! Good for you
@buchey, i just had mine done in june, and got unwired about 2 weeks ago. how long did you have to keep your braces on after you were opened up again?
I had underbite surgery n my face looked like I got thrown out a a car windshield without all the cuts....I looked HORRIBLE! n I wuz rubberbanded shut for 6 weeks n on a liquid diet for 8 weeks n a soft food diet for 8 more weeks...the pain wuznt too bad with medicine...I mean sometimes I wanted to die, but it wuz worth it in the end....BUT I wud NEVER do it again!!!! It's sooooo miserable! Like u wanna open ur mouth n u wanna talk n u can't n u jus get sooo frustrated!
i have an underbite though i dont think its as bad as yours but you can notice it and i am really considering having surgery but im really really scared that something will go wrong or that it will really hurt does it? and can you tell me anything elsee about having surgery i would really appreciate if you tell me anything thank you.
help me someone please !! i really like to be pretty and everything and i also am determined to do as much plastic surgery as it requries to be the most beautiful person i have seen, but i am going to have this surgery done because have like one cm between upper and underbite so i saw a little about it on the internet and is this not worse than a nosejob ? or facetight ? it looks really scarry and the tears relly keep falling down now i've become so afraid and i'm going to have the surgery soon

Thanks for your video. My 16 year old son and I were just told that he needs this surgery and it scared the heck out of me. Your video helped me feel better. I will be just like your mom and do my best to help my son! I will become the master smoothie/blended drink maker!
Awwh! Thank you so much for this video! I will undergo the same type of surgery as you, I am a bit stressed, but really happy to finally have it done. Your video made me feel more secure. My mom is also going to stay with me and help me for two weeks :)
Just got the surgery 2 days ago, recovering now. Must say the worst part is the pressure on my face. No real pain, can't wait for swelling to go down. At least I'm exempt from chemisty bio and pre cal exams!
Hey- I'm having this surgery done July 9. Tell me please, because I'm also in school this summer, should 8 days be enough time to take off to recover? In other words, how long were you taking narcotics? I just won't to be sure I'll be coherent enough to participate in school the following week after my surgery. Thanks for the vid- I'm v-logging as well.
@boredblah1235 You are still too young to have this surgery. You want to wait until you are FULLY grown. You don't want to get the surgery too early, and risk you bones growing further and making the bite bad again. Wait until you are around 20 years old to look into surgery. You can get braces now and straighten teeth, but you will need them again whenever you actually get the surgery. Mention it to your dentist at your next visit, he'll be able to help you get a dr's name at the right time
@boredblah1235 Yes I would say that it could still get worse. As for myself, I really don't remember it getting progressively worse, I just remember it always being bad. But obviously the problem had to start at sometime. It's definitely a gradual process. The orthodontist and oral surgeon together should make this timing decision. Your first appointment (consultation) should be with an orthodontist, and they will direct you to an oral surgeon. Your general dentist really wont be too involved.
@boredblah1235 Hey if you are 14 years old, and still growing your bite problems can be fixed w/o surgery. You're lucky to get it fixed while you're still growing, surgery has a long healing process. Talk to your orthodontist about how you can get it fixed w/o surgery.
@boredblah1235 It depends im gonna have it in about 4 months and im ongly 16 but they have to make you some exams before and they can see if you stoped growing if you are not growing anymore they can do it if not is impossible because your face is not ready
hey ... cn i just ask .... u see when u had tha surgery done ... did it widen ur mouth(smile)... i was jus wandering ... soz ill be having mine done both upper and lower jaw moved in december dis yr ... thank uu
hey man - just the other day i had a Bi Intra Ramus Osteotomy on my bottom jaw - and was kinda thinking against it - that maybe i could live with the over bite - but your vieo has given me motivation through this - thank you and best of luck with your recovery - which BTW - how long DID it take to fully recover?
that really is awesome that my video helped motivate you into getting this done rather than avoiding the surgery. I'm really glad I was able to help with that. you will be forever glad you went through it. Recovery was really not too bad in the long-run. first 2 weeks are tough. The following 2 months are annoying. After that, life resumes as normal, except now you can eat food properly and your face looks better. Take pictures because before you know it, it's all done!
i wanna ask you please now after about 3 weeks , is every thing ok , are there any problems in any other things that you have felt after doing this surgery aafter this time ?
Yep I'm having it done as well. I've never had any major surgery in my life before. Except my wisdom teeth being cut out. Oh man It looks like I will be taking a long Vacation LOL For this one!
damnnn every one of my doctors tells me the recovery for this surgery is brutal. they're telling me my surgery is gonna be about 8 hours long. i have pretty much the same problem as you. they're gonna take out all four of my wisdom teeth at the same time that they do the surgery. do you have any scars from it?
In Ireland if you have to go into hospital and the Max you pay for your stay is €270. This Surgery is given to people for free who were born with facial problems, i dont know if that is the same in the US, Our Helthcare is Running by our Goverment, which pays for alot of things but you would be waiting for a while unless you have HealthCare and you could go to a Private Hospital about a year ago their was a build up of people Waiting for Doctors, So what the Goverment did was took the people
@foleybarbarian who were waiting the longest and sent them to a Private Hospital for free the Goverment paid for the Bill :) Thats why the EU Zone Rocks!! IT Sucks to Live in America!! were Money is every thing!!
In the U.S., it depends if you have insurance or not. As far as I know, insurance deducts some of the price of if they see it as a health problem. I know that some insurances won't pay if they think it is as like plastic surgery. So you could either be paying a lot, or a little. We haven't gotten universal healthcare yet. Don't know if we will or not.
Hey, ok i have to have this surgery next month from my over bite and im completely nervous!! Were you in school when you had your surgery? and if so how many days did you miss? I am only required to miss 3 days!

Oh i hated having braces but i suppose its necessary. I am terrified of needles though and dentists and im sure dentists are terrified of me also.

did u pay for this out of pocket or did the insurance company cover for you? i heard it costs a lot and i dont think i'll be able to afford it without insurance
auburnaggies 1 year ago
@auburnaggie The cost of treatment will depend a lot on the specific treatment you need. The best way to find this out is to go to the oral surgeon or dentist for a consultation. They will be able to find out all the costs before anything is final. Consultations are usually not too costly. The best approach is to ask your general/family dentist where to start.
buchey 1 year ago
@buchey also, it is completely worth it. It's changed my life for the better.

hey buchey, it's great to see ur profile improve so much as a result of surgery.
I have a little question please.... I'm due to go through chin reduction surgery in 15 days or so.
Can you please let me know if there are any major risks with these surgeries?
plus, how long were u on bed after surgery? as in, how long after surgery were u able to resume ur normal social routine.
Thanks a lot, looking forward to ur guidance.

Hello. Glad your surgery turned out great.
I just had my surgery 5 days ago. I'm currently still in hospital and will be discharged tomorrow.
One question I would like to know is , do you have to take out all the metal plates and screws after 1 year of surgery?
My surgeon told me that after 1 year from now I will need to come back for another operation just to remove the metal plates and screws.

@Keveo I honestly find that pretty un-necessary. My plates are staying forever, with no problem.

@buchey Okay then. Thats good news. I think I would prefer to leave them they aswell. because I am now 26 and my face should stay at this size for the rest of my life.
Thanks for your reply. I've watched your videos heaps of time and it gave me inspirations to go through with my surgery.
Take care.

@boogle101 yes most likely you would. Braces are needed in order to align the teeth so that they will fit properly at the time of surgery. Also they are needed after the surgery to fine tune everything.

Hello.
Are you allowed to get this jaw operation even if you are 14 years old?
boredblah1235 1 year ago
@boredblah1235 You are still too young to have this surgery. You want to wait until you are FULLY grown. You don't want to get the surgery too early, and risk you bones growing further and making the bite bad again. Wait until you are around 20 years old to look into surgery. You can get braces now and straighten teeth, but you will need them again whenever you actually get the surgery. Mention it to your dentist at your next visit, he'll be able to help you get a dr's name at the right time
buchey 1 year ago
@buchey Doe this mean that my lower jaw i till growing? So it can get worse?
boredblah1235 1 year ago

Talk to your orthodontist about how you can get it fixed w/o surgery.

therandomcoward 1 year ago
that really is awesome that my video helped motivate you into getting this done rather than avoiding the surgery.
