it's interesting to see the different opinions & tastes about the same band here. I loved "This Strange Engine" & whilst I've liked their material since then I can't say I've loved it. I just seems to lakc the clear production and direction that they used to have.
Having said that they're still way better than most of the shit you're likely to hear in tha charts so I hope they keep going.
I always thought that "Bell in the Sea" and "The Release" (B' sides from Seasons' End) should've replaced "Berlin" and "Holloway Girl". They moved me more. .... ... of course.. I'm odd.
I love this song. Another Hogarth song from the "Season's End" area. He did so well then. He did pretty well on "Brave" too. But then it just went to shambles. Both for Fish and Marillion. :(
I understand what you mean. They have changed, but they are still amazing in my eyes, a gem of something magical in the dark expanse around them. ~ Search for their latest song.. 'Happiness is the road' in the album of the same name.. It's necessary. :)
"Happiness is the road" is a good tune, you were right. It's very well played and Hogarth sings wonderfully.
I ordered for free (!) the cd on their website!
You know, the last Marillion cd I had bought was "Strange Engine" and I was disappointed to death. "Seasons end" and "Holidays in Eden" are 2 of my all-time favourite albums EVER, and "Brave" and "Afraid of sunlight" are quite excellent too.
perfect as all seasons end. but I wonder, why this song is not on the first cd?

Funny enough, a (very good) heavy metal band called Communic took some of the lyrics for their song Ocean Bed.
"From the world above to the world beneath", "Dragged me down to my ocean bed", "On wings of silver I dream of gold".
Good taste!

I share the same opinion. What happened with these guys? They were amazing back then, but not anymore IMHO.

All right mate, I followed your advice.

But then something happened, I just didn't hook.
