They still have to deal with the issues involved with the structure of private insurance; denials for preconditions and capping of payouts for long term problems which can lead to huge financial loss. Stossel only lt addresses the issue of deductibles and that is only if the employer is willing to pay for it .Stossel is a libertarian that is cherry picking on behalf of private ins. Private ins is wrong because it allows the Ins. companies to still carry on the same way.Obamacare is wrong too.
Stupid Obamacare made it impossible to purchase OTC medicines w/o a prescription. You don't have the choice for alternative medicines which are not counted as viable medical care. I predict that HSA will be gone if Obamacare is fully implemented. All medical care will be taxed as part of income . The more expensive the treatment, the more taxes you have to pay. This is how will Obamacare be funded.
@pluto4847 $1000 is more than what I started with, so yes it will be plenty to start just remember that you still have to buy an insurance policy which is considered a major medical policy. The Max you can contribute is around $6000 a year but it goes up every year. I would call a few independent health insurance agents in your area to get the best policy for your needs.
Hill-Burton Health Care Bill is the solution since it is based on complete transparency, accountability, direct responsibility of all personnel and financing involved and is treated like a public utility just like power and water utilities but this time is involves people health and combines both public and private instititutional collaboration with just one goal: cure the patient, maintain his or her health after curing him or her, practice preventive health care, and doctors has the last word
Think of all the fat that could be trimmed. Doctors charge up to 10-20% more because they have to hire people whose sole job is to deal with insurance claims. Doctors also charge up to 30-40% more for malpractice insurance, which ought to be illegal. If a doctor didn't have malpractice insurance, bet your bottom dollar that they'll take such good care of you you'll think you're part of the family. If they screw up they should pay out of pocket and maybe even lose the right to practice medicine.
i'm against socialized medicine. i'm completely for changing our current (broken) system, but i'm not for changing the current system and replacing it with another (broken) system. i support HSA's, because the government is helping a bit by taking money out of your tax money and putting it in an account for healthcare reasons, but you CHOOSE where you spend it, increasing competition. plus, you use less insurance money, and if you don't have any major problems, you might not even need insurance.
If goverment programs are no good. What do you call private pensions that go south and what happened to your 401k. SS needs improvement but its still there.
I have an HSA. Not only are the premiums 1/3 of what I used to pay, but I've built up over $10,000 in my HSA savings account. That money would have just gone to the insurers under my old plan.
I'm not sure what I'll do if I get a job with an employer that only has standard insurance. Keep my HSA plan or go with their plan?
this is funny... In Canada there is competition. Dr. get paid per visit/patient. SOO if they want to make money, they need to attract patients where insures quality care
Blue Dog Max Baucus has received $2,797,381 from the health sector and $1,170,313 from the insurance sector. Ummm? Does that tell you anything? I am going to every Max video, and every health care reform video on YouTube and getting this out there! Please do write, email, fax, or call his office to make sure that he understands that we will expose him totally if he does not get on board here!
Here is why were screwed at least for a couple of decades. Until the "New Deal" generation die out (I wish them no harm but I am not going to call them the WWII generation), rich, piece-of-crap seniors, who don't need Medicare and use Medicare to use the doctor's office as a social venue, decrease in numbers (hopefully because of dying from old age), Baby-boomers, Generation X, and younger will not be able to stop this overwhelming stampede to socialized everything because THEY have the votes!
Not completely true. There may be partial payment, there may be 50%, there may be 80% and there may be full payment. It depends on what care is received and what the comparable, if any, may be in Canada. Your statement is a blanket, and as in all blanket statements, there are holes.
You are right, it may be a partial payment, but they are not left on their own like we are. Have you had the satisfaction of fighting for treatment with your insurance company? My Dad did! He had Blue Cross for 20 years and then needed chemo. They sent a denial letter, and the next day my Dad showed up at our local Blue Cross office with an attorney. Next day, presto, chemo! Most people can't afford attornies and are lost when they get denied. Private insurance companies are KILLING people!
Phillip, what happens when your child is born with a severe heart defects, and while there's opportunity to save the child it will require years and years of multiple surgeries and hundreds of thousands in expenses.
In the UK (maybe Canda) my child would have died b/c they deem the cost too high and prognosis too low. He's 10 this year. I thank God every day I live in America and I have control over the needs of my family and not the government.
Cirrusbill, what happens when your child is born with severe heart defects and you think you have coverage with your private insurance company, only to find out that your child is not covered? Or as an adult, you get a serious illness and find out you are not covered after paying years of premiums to a private insurance company? This is not about how great our medical system is, it is about coverage. There is NOTHING is this reform that is like Canada and I am tired of hearing about it. Con't
Why would I have a child who isn't covered under my insurance policy? Makes no sense.
Sounds to me like you're making my case for the need for increased competition.
If we could enact pro growth policies in business, and stop targeting them, we can grow earnings, grow GDP, grow investments and help spread the wealth naturally, w/o govt, to everyone who participates in the American way of life.
When we've compromised & gone to social programs we've added massive cost & lost liberties.
Oh, I am making your case for increased competition. The "Public Option" is what I am talking about. The private insurance companies have had plenty of time to compete to lower prices and haven't done shit. They compete to raise prices. Most people can not afford good health insurance. My son-in-law is a sales manager for Ford and pays $700.00 a month for a family of four. That is fucking outragious. If one of them got seriously sick, they would be dropped like a bad transmission. Con't.
My 50 year old brother was on an HMO and had migraines. He needed a brain scan and was denied. What happened to him? He died! My Dad had been paying Blue Cross for 20 years and got cancer. They sent a form letter saying they didn't cover his chemo. The next day he showed up at Blue Cross with a lawyer and wa-la, he was covered and had to fight them every inch of the way. I hope when my 4 year old Grandson turns 18, he won't know what a private insurance company is. Greed! Greed! Greed!
If you have Canadian care and you want to get care in the states, the Canadian gov. pays for that care. If you want to trash how bad gov. run healthcare is, lobby Congress to get rid of Medicare, the VA and while you are at it, lets get rid of the FDA, USDA, FAA, etc. If you don't want government helping, move Mexico for a couple of months. There is a country that believes in small government. The states have not be able to enact reform, now it is time for the gov. to step in. PEOPLE ARE DYING!
You confuse government regulatory programs with governments actually providing for and controlling a direct, personal consumer service. Health care is not a GENERAL service to benefit all. Health care is personal, and you should control your own health decisions.
Get it?
Govt doesn't pay for your car -- you do, as well as others who have nothing to do with you. They burden you, you burden them, and everyone suffers.
Does government control Medicare and the VA healthcare system? No, they don't, they help pay for it. We have socialized medicine right now. Everyone is really covered, all you have to do is go to the emergency room. It sounds like to me that you believe that you should only be covered if you have a job. Well, the sad part of that is, not all employers cover their employees. If you don't think that we need "insurance" reform, you have not done the tango with one of them yet!
Everyone deserves coverage. But a socialized plan is wrong. We lack private mkt competition. if we had that, choices go up and costs can be controlled. Cirrusbill is correct ...
We need HSAs, ICC reform, tort reform and other private mkt reforms. Did you know 20% of most emergency room visits are for people shopping for narcotics? Guess who pays for this? We need patient accountability reform too!
Yeah - so they can actually get care, they come here. Once we are also rationing care as they are, they won't be able to come here anymore. And we'll have to go to India to get treatment unless Uncle Obie tells us we are worthy of treatment.
Great video. HSA and high deductible plans are great for patients and the system as a whole. We need to move away from health COVERAGE and toward true health INSURANCE. HSAs are a very positive step in the right direction - hopefully more and more people will choose them.
The video was actually against insurance companies. It really isn't that complicated -- when someone else is paying (either the government or an insurance company), people have no incentive to control costs or to compare prices.
It's amazing how fast people reject HSAs. Yes I am suspicious about the insurance companies pushing them, but in theory it is better economically than the current system. I'm more concerned about the "free" universal health care propaganda.
"free" universal healthcare isnt free, your taxes pay for it. There are two basic truths when it comes to state-sponsored healthcare: 1) Its only as good as the government that administers it (that's why, for example Finland has a decent universal healtcare system, Canada's isnt bad either - I should know, I have family there) 2) when its time to die, its time to die, no doctor in the US will help
