Wow! This guitar is legendary! Jimmy Page is the quintessential guitar GOD who has influenced so many out there including me! Thanks for posting this video! It is fascinating listening to Jimmy talk about how he acquired this guitar from Joe Walsh, another legendary guitarist! This is the reason why I have a Les Paul!
This man was worshipped by every guy in my high school. And when the drummer died. And the end of Led zeppelin was told. A Saddness swept across the land. and all we had left was KISS playing over the speakers in the lunch room. ugh!
Can someone please explain what les paul is the number one and what les paul is the number two. Because i keep getting so confused with what les paul is Jimmy's number one the one with the treble pickup cover removed or the one with the cover on ?
I really like the fact that Mr. Page would land his precious guitar, so that it can be replicated. That's a very generous thing to do, it will allow others to be able to play on a guitar used by a legend of RnR.
I'm wondering how he can get the split coil/out of phase sound with a Gibson pickup's standard braided wire. Did he have the pickup rewired for 4 wires instead?
man if that guy ever messed up his #1 or if it got damaged or stolen, like Eric's les paul i wouldn't want to be around Jimmy for that... i wonder if he still has his Black custom les paul & that cool Fender Tele..that was my favorite, the tele i thought he sounded the best w/that fender w/ the cool paint job dragon or somethg, but i llike the way he used it for the BBC shows i think it was- where the kids sat on the floor & Plant introduced them they were on fire and that tele "Screamed"
I MET JIMMY IN KEY WEST, HE WAS BOMBED, HE WALKED INTO RICKS BAR, SAT DOWN, PASSED OUT, (HE HAD A BODYGUARD) WOKE UP, JUMPED UP ON THE STAGE WITH A BULLSHIT BAR BAND, JAMMED A COUPLE OF SONGS, MET A FEW FANS, THEN WALKED OUT, IT BLEW EVERYONES MIND, INCLUDING MINE!!!!!
@Jazz95Master I commented because you corrected someone earlier with incorrect info. Plus you also said Page may have stloen the guitar from Walsh. Now do you understand why you got corrected???
@Jazz95Master It would have been 69... you can see him in early concerts playing it, however without the grovers at that stage. He must've changed to the grovers in late '69 / early '70
@bootlegboy1 think of 'GREEN/MOORE-GUITAR' , some of 5 -10 million $... that is like a 'STRADIVARI-VIOLIN' ??? LES from berlin (the history makes the price !!!)
not so high as the price you have to pay for Jimmy Page Skills. Are you seeing the skills of Slash? Multiplicate that by 3 Hendrix´s and you`ll have a JP
@danlvaf183 A 1959 Les Paul can cost up to $800,000, “Star owned” makes it at least 20% more than original price. A real Led Zeppelin fan with a lot of money could probably spend up to $10 Million considering who Jimmy Page is .
@danlvaf183 I remember several years ago maybe around 2005 the custom shop replication cost 28k (Australian dollars), which at the time may have been up to 35k US!!
@danlvaf183 imho, probably the single most expensive musical instrument on the planet.... along with Jimi's white Woodstock strat, Stevie Ray's no1 and EVH's frankie.
...yeah, I love guitars so much, it's not healthy...
i'm not a big rock star but i love my guitar (stratocaster). and i would have a hard time letting some take it and take it apart to make a copy of it. its just a regualr american standard but it just fits me like a condom.
@PBANDSNOW Wow...That's really...Wow....Cobain got mighty famous after his death..And he was a good player. But then people like you come and make him a god..And when people look him up they get dissapointed because of the reputation you guys give him...He was good, but not god..
@PBANDSNOW Without a doubt. I totally agrre, cobain made alot of good songs for nirvana. Heart shaped box and Come as you are is great examples... @PBANDSNOW Seriously dude, you're the one that needs to do some fucking research. Worldwide figures has Nevermind selling 26 million copies. Led Zeppelin 4 at 32 million. People still buy LZ4. NOBODY buys Nevermind anymore. Zeppelin has sold OVER 300 mil records. Nirvana? 50 mil. And what top 100 list are you talking about? Rolling Stone? Well, that dumb ass rag mag also had Cobain listed higher than Eddie Van Halen on their list of top 100 guitarists. So don't put a lot of stock in that shit.
@bandit7498 Hey, this guy's favorite gal is Joan Jett, so that speaks volumes by itself. I completely agree with you about Rolling Stone....it's not even worthy to wipe your ass with.
@DickLodge68 THANK YOU!! I read that Rolling Stone crap about the top 100 rock guitarists and Eddie was WAY down on the list and Cobain was at like 15 or something, higher than Eddie. EDDIE FREAKIN' VAN HALEN!! Steve Vai wasn't even in the top 100. lol. Ya gotta laugh at Rolling Stone mag. But you kinda gotta feel sorry for the poor schmucks that buy into their BS. Led Zeppelin is in a class by themselves. Comparing Nirvana to them is like comparing a glass of piss to a glass of fine wine.
a) Zeppelin were together for about 10 years. Nirvana were together for about 7. Nirvana formed in '87 and Cobain blew his brains out in '94.
b)You make it sound as if Zeppelin accumulated their sales over several decades while Nirvana accumulated theirs in just 3 years. (read your comment, that is exactly the way you put it.)
c)It's been 20 plus years since Nirvana first formed. In the same span of time Zep had by far outsold Nirvana.
@IDanClarkI 2) Also "bear in mind" Nirvana were transformed into overnight pop stars by stinking MTV. Not to say they didn't put in work. But there was no MTV in the late 60s and 70s. Bands toured endlessly and produced quality music. That's how they made a name for themselves. I have to say I never, NEVER thought I'd be having a discussion of who the better band was between Zep and Nirvana. Guess I assumed it was pretty much a given that Nirvana could NEVER compare to real artists like Zeppelin
@IDanClarkI The idea here is to post videos and comments...so telling someone to shut up is really weak. If you want to debate, then do it. I didn't bring up Cobain..some other lame-ass did. Cobain was never a good guitar player...if you can't deal with that reality, that's your problem.
@IDanClarkI The problem is that you act like a jack-ass! If you disagree with someone, you simply tell them to STFU. Kurt Cobain shouldn't have made the top 1000 list or 100,000 list of greatest guitarists. It's ridiculous!
I would love to just STAND in the same room as Page and that guitar. I would consider selling my left nut to get to shake his hand and pull the push pull.
I don't like the way the guy just grabs the guitar from Page to point out the push/pull pot. He could have been a lot more courteous in asking Page to demonstrate that for him. The he says..."we'll take good care of it".
What a cool video clip! Jimmy Page about to release from his possession (temporarily) his most favorite guitar to allow Gibson to copy it for a signature release model. I'm sure he felt very nervous letting it go. Page is not only the best rock guitarist/songwriter/recording engineer and quite possibly THE best guitarist in general in the last 50 years, but is also a warm, endearing individual. And in this clip, his personality shines through!!
I love Jimmy page. I don't care what anyone says, Page made the Les Paul the most desired guitar in the world. 1959 Les Pauls are now worth in excess of $500,000 - solely due to Page. He is the ultimate guitar hero.
I once got to hold this guitar briefly while working as a stagehand for a Jimmy Page/Black Crowes concert in 1999. Jimmy's guitar tech let me put away all of his stage guitars (including this one, Les Paul #2 and the famous Gibson double-neck) in their road cases. Needless to say, it was a thrill to even touch it. I wish I could have gotten a photo of me holding it!
Any guitar that Jimmy would have chosen would have been "the guitar" and that is what he is trying to say. There is nothing special about this guitar other then the fact that it's been with him for many years and he has used it on many recordings. It's the man that made guitar special.
@MannyBlue65 Exactly!! The magic is in Page, not the guitar. The instrument is just the vehicle Page uses to allow the rest of us to experience a bit of it.
You know JP is passionate about his profession when he holds his instrument in such high regards, it shows that he respects what's been given to him and understands that it was no mere coincidence.
@DaNorthernLight dude ive known he has been british for as long as i can remember. noone reads my other comments on here i guess. i was high as hell when i posted that. i mean come on, look at the choice of words i chose XD
keep in mind in the 70's push pull pots were not around ;) meaning in zeppelin page used a stock 1959 les paul to get his tones.the songs with that twang was either a fender tele or strat or the les paul in the mid position on the toggel with the vol.knob rolled back and a lil roll off on the rythem tone to give it that twangey tone.this is what made page famous he did not have to play on 10 all the time ;)good tone comes from playing around alot till you come acrosed a tone that just fit's.
I have a guitar world mag (May/2005) that states this guitar would fetch 1.9 million dollars. If that's all the money I had, I would still buy it!

@zbarneyz Whaa?? Cobain was a good player? You're joking right?
DickLodge68 1 year ago
@DickLodge68 Im not joking...What are you talking about?
zbarneyz 1 year ago
@zbarneyz Kurt Cobain was not a good player.

@DickLodge68
shut the fuck up about kurt cobain.
i love the guy, but keep it to nirvana vids,
END OF, now STFU
IDanClarkI 1 year ago
@IDanClarkI The idea here is to post videos and comments...so telling someone to shut up is really weak. If you want to debate, then do it. I didn't bring up Cobain..some other lame-ass did. Cobain was never a good guitar player...if you can't deal with that reality, that's your problem.

@DickLodge68
so whats your problem?

@IDanClarkI The problem is that you act like a jack-ass! If you disagree with someone, you simply tell them to STFU. Kurt Cobain shouldn't have made the top 1000 list or 100,000 list of greatest guitarists. It's ridiculous!

I would love to just STAND in the same room as Page and that guitar. I would consider selling my left nut to get to shake his hand and pull the push pull.

this is most likely the most valuable instrument to exist it's beautiful and there couldn't be a better owner for it=)

MannyBlue65 1 year ago 2
@MannyBlue65 Exactly!! The magic is in Page, not the guitar. The instrument is just the vehicle Page uses to allow the rest of us to experience a bit of it.

You know JP is passionate about his profession when he holds his instrument in such high regards, it shows that he respects what's been given to him and understands that it was no mere coincidence.

keep in mind in the 70's push pull pots were not around ;) meaning in zeppelin page used a stock 1959 les paul to get his tones.the songs with that twang was either a fender tele or strat or the les paul in the mid position on the toggel with the vol.knob rolled back and a lil roll off on the rythem tone to give it that twangey tone.this is what made page famous he did not have to play on 10 all the time ;)good tone comes from playing around alot till you come acrosed a tone that just fit's.
