The ONLY thing where Dirk is suprior to Gasol is range. The only. As a bigman Gasol is a much more valuable player, specially down low, where bigmen matters the most. The role that Dirk is good at, a good guard can do.

Dirk is the lone superstar and focal point of his team's offense, and he deals with the opposing team's best defender every night. Had Wade not shot a record 97 free throws in the Finals, Dirk would be the only player besides Hakeem to win a title with ZERO all-star/all-defensive teammates. Gasol was a joke, going 0-12 in the playoffs before teaming up with Kobe.

@shadyparadox Not a Lakers fan, in the NBA i like Portland the most. In my honest oppinion, Dirk has the mentality of a true franchise player, he is clutch and has a killer instinct. His main weapon is nailing clutch baskets at ridiculous angles with hands in the face. But lacks the skillset of Pau as a bigman to really dominate the game.

Pau on the other hand has RIDICULOUS skill in the post, and impressive handles. He is a PF that plays C seamessly. But...

@etherealnoob Of course, the easier way to scoreboard you is to simply point out that Nowitzki has a higher rebounding rate, this year as well as over his career, than Gasol.

Dirk also leads the league in FG% from midrange and true shooting percentage overall. Not something just any "good guard" can do.

@etherealnoob Can a "good" guard like Kobe or D-wade force an opposing team put a big man to play defense on the perimeter? Exactly, Dirk changes the geometry of the game and how the game can be won or lost. Dirk's presence made a small guy JJ Barea all the more dangerous in the pick and roll. Also, have you ever seen a 7 footer that is as mobile as Dirk? Dallas didn't even have a real shooting guard all season and the teams they beat in the playoffs had GREAT guards. I wonder why?

It's funny hoy Gasol looks like a complete loser w/ the Grizzlies, but now he's got Kobe he's suddenly a superstar... That's basically what's happening w/ Dirk, except he's more of a Kobe w/o a Gasol. People don't recognise dirk's awesomeness and it sucks.

Gasol never had players like Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Devin Harris, Stackhouse or Josh Howard, thats 5 players at least 1 time all star. This Mavericks were the best team in the NBA in 2006. Gasol had scrubs in his grizzlies. Im not saying Gasol is better than Dirk, because Dirk is the fucking greatest, But Gasol is a great player too, and he would have won a pair of 1st rounds with Dirk's supporting cast. Dirk deserved the ring in 2006. Fuck refs.

@TurboKock I agree.I wasnt sayin Pau's a bad player either,it just annoys me how Pau's treated like a God by some people(overrated)because of his success w/ the lakers,while Dirk gets NO love.And Dirk did have more help than Pau,but it wasnt like his help were superstars.Actually Dirk has to bail the Mavs out of trouble like 85%of the time even w/ all those players around him.Dirk carried the Mavs 2 the Finals himself(yes, Fuck refs). I love Pau as a player but the Pau>Dirk talk is just doodoo.
