  • @ bowulf, I'm on the atkins diet right now, but I'm concerned about the high amounts of fat I'm consuming even if they are unsaturated is it possible to omit the butter and to use whole milk instead of heavy cream? Thanks again!!

  • @britneysprsfan1 You have to realize Atkins is a high fat diet. That is how it works being ketogenic. What is your concern with consuming the fat? The additional Calories (which you shouldn't count) or perhaps the possible cholesterol impact? If it's the latter, I would urge you to check out my cholesterol video. The old theories on fats equal higher cholesterol have been proven wrong on Atkins.

To answer your question, for Induction to use less cream cut it with water.

  • @bowulf On the OWL phase, you can use whole milk, but in this recipe, I would simply use less cream if that was still your concern.

But remember on Induction roughly 65% of your daily Calories should be from fat. That is when ketosis kicks in and converts the body almost exclusively to burning fat for fuel and so does the appetite suppression.

  • cut the cream cheese cracked me up lmao ... but thanks for the video i loved it

  • Looks so good but the fat in Atkins is too much for me.

  • @dietriterocks It's the fat that is required to fuel the body and foster the appetite suppression, but I understand that the diet is not for everyone. It was simply the only that worked for me and many others.

  • @bowulf Totally understood. I believe it works and understand the principle of it (kind of) but I do admit I'm a little confused about how it can be healthy for your heart. It worked for me when I did it and I was never hungry at all but it's confusing. In one ear you've got people saying butter, cheese, etc. aren't good for you and in the other, so many with improved lab results eating those very things in large amounts.

  • @dietriterocks I can understand the confusion, but as with many things in science, there are money for scientists that either follow the party line or do not try to make waves. PCRM is one particular source of bad information. They are running an anti-bacon billboard saying it will raise the risk of colon cancer. When a study said vegans had a higher risk of colorectal cancer, but they ignore that one.

The best I can say is follow the one that leads your own results to be better.

  • @dietriterocks Read the book before you judge.

  • Can you eat this on induction? looks yummy

  • @Rotorzilla The IF in the title stands for "Induction Friendly."

  • @bowulf oh sweet I will give it a try, I'm 10 days into induction and 14 pounds down. I been craving Alfredo chicken.

  • This looks really good. I'm going to try it out. Usually I just take heavy cream and boil it down in a saucepan until it thickens, then add the cheese, which turns out fine but is probably not as interesting and or as flavorful as this recipe looks to be.

  • @bentleyr00d Perhaps not as simple as yours, I was surprised at how easy and good this recipe turned out to be. I am never going back to canned sauce again.

  • wow! it is a good Atkins recipe!. This recipe is really helping me learn to cook, thank you so much. Buen Trabajo = Good job! :D

  • @doris2622 Hey, I am glad I could return the favor others first paid me.

  • I am going to try this today! Thank you for all of your wonderful recipes and tips to stay on track. You are the best! Want to try all of your recipes you make them look so easy and a lot of them are induction friendly which is what I'm looking for :)

  • Im on phase one thanx for the inspiration...LOL!

  • @MysteriousButterly Yes, all my recipes marked with (IF) are Induction Friendly.

  • I love shirataki noodles with alfredo sauce, but I wanted to try and make my own sauce at home so I can know exactly what's in it. I will try this recipe soon.

  • Get a tripod.

  • @JuiceFatboyJuice Watch my more recent videos, and you'll see I have one.

  • what can i use in substitute of the heavy cream forgot to buy it!

  • @heart3817 Half-Half would work too, but you may need to boost the butter content to boost the fat amount.

  • This looks like a great recipe. I am the only person in my home on Atkins, what is the best way to save the left over? The recipe is too big for just one person.

  • @ssibble You can freeze the sauce or it will keep in the fridge for a 3-5 days. Non-low carbers would love the recipe too. I typically make my kids this recipe with a regular noodles too. Another option would be quartering the recipe, and it should work just as well.

  • Pahahaha the time lapse thing xD

  • @KuroDokiDokiNO Thanks for watching!

  • that is a lot of butter....

  • @s3cr3twh1sp3r Per serving it is not that much, and honestly when you are fueling your body and exercise on fat, there is not much reason not to use it. Your body naturally through ketosis limits your intake, and you don't have to concern yourself as much with limiting you eating.

  • ! Have you thought about intellectus diet (google intellectus424dietcom)? Ive heard some great things about it and my friend lost crazy amounts of weight with it.

  • I don't have any of the shredded parmesan. How many ounces of the grated should I use?

  • @marnao122 I would use use a full cup of the grated parmesan cheese.

  • they make low carb pasta :]

  • @songhug Unfortunately the magic noodles don't taste like noodles should, and the Dream Field's was recently proven to be less carb than their package would infer. But if either work for you, then certainly go ahead. Thanks for watching!

  • low carb? are you sure?

  • @laesphanie Yep, did you see the carb count?

    Nutrition Facts: (based upon 8)

    Calories 470, 38g Fat, 3.7g Total Carbs (.8g Fiber), 28g Protein

At less than 3g from primarily broccoli, this is a great low carb meal.

  • Lmao at the camera woman!

  • How much parmesan cheese do you think should I use if I don't want the powdered kind (I hate the powdered can stuff)?

  • @ElizaKW I would just use 6 oz of the shredded if you didn't want to use the grated.

  • IT LOOKS YUMMY

  • @Yourpleasure721 Thanks!

  • how do you make The squash like spaghetti and what type of Italian seasonings!?

  • @ThePrettymeh I talk about it at 0:50 in the video. Essentially you cut it into fourths, and scrape out the insides. Boil for 25 minutes, and then flake out the insides. Check out my smothered hashbrowns video for more information and explanation on how to make it.

The Italian seasoning is a type of spice. It is like a combination of oregano, basil, and a few more.

  • Thanks so much, great video ,

  • @aljazzy1 No problem, I am glad to share the recipes that have helped me be successful in losing weight.

  • Pls ignore my question below I was soo excited about this that I forgot to read the (IF) Induction Friendly in your title. :-P

  • Can I eat this during my 14 day induction period? It sure looks fantastic! Thanks!

  • @LadyLLLL The answer is of course, but you already answered it yourself. :-D

  • Awesome! Thanks! Low carb is the only way baby! Beware of the sheeple that put it down. THEY are the idiots.

  • @davidsanft Thanks, and I agree. If people would only think for themselves and research the topic, they may actually learn something.

  • congrats, you're an idiot. Atkins is bs.

  • @DJLunasf Congrats on showing your wealth of knowledge. After years of failing other diets and then losing 211 pounds on Atkins, I would differ on your conclusion.

  • @DJLunasf

Why is it necessary to result to name calling just because someone is different from you? Have you done any ACTUAL research on atkins? Have you actually looked into the medical and scientific implications of this diet? Before you start name calling maybe you should be a bit more professional and actually come back with an educated answer with resources before acting like a 3 year old.

  • @DJLunasf Atkins has more credible research behind it than the majority of diet plans. Stop being a troll and maybe do a little research.

  • Thanks so much! I've just finished making this for dinner, but I substituted the chicken with seafood....crab and shrimp. It is FANTASTIC! Thank you for making these videos, they have given me LOTS of ideas and my journey so far has been a BREEZE! ....5 weeks and 33 pounds gone!! WOW!

  • @mudrafas I am glad you liked it. This is one of those extremely versatile recipes, and worked well for the white sauce pizza recipe too. Congrats on all your success!

  • low carb suck just use some kind of fat burner from gnc fuck starving

  • @JesseusM If you are starving, you are doing it wrong.

  • I've been searching for easy low-carb recipes and found this today. Stopped at the store on the way home to get the ingredients. Was very easy to make and it was absolutely delicious! And incredibly filling. Although it's a high calorie recipes, I diddn't need to eat much to feel very contented and full. So the calories worked out ok. I'll definitely make this again. Thanks!!

  • @ElaineEC No problem, I am glad to be able to share this with you guys. :-)

  • I also wanted to steal a piece of that chicken. Great videos thanks for uploading :D

  • @blopa623 :-D

  • Above, you show that this has 3.7g Total Carbs (.8g Fiber) for the whole recipe but Atkins.com shows that Spaghetti Squash has 5g Total Carbs (1.1g Fiber) for a Net Carb count of 3.9g Carbs per half cup. Not taking into account that there are carbs in the sauce, how did you arrive at your numbers? Also, how big are your servings for this dish?

  • @thespiswolf It's been awhile since I did the numbers for this video, but if I recall, I did not include the spaghetti squash in the nutritional information which was simply the chicken broccoli Alfredo sauce as I did list multiple different options to serve it. What you served it with would definitely affect the carb count.

  • OMG. This honestly was the best Alfredo I have EVER had. You are a GENIUS.

  • @thespiswolf Thanks, you are too kind.

  • Making this tonight! One thing, though: your instructions don't tell you what to do with the spaghetti squash after cooking it.

  • @thespiswolf I talk about at point 7:50 in the video. You essentially just drain the water and then flake out the interior of the spaghetti squash.

  • @bowulf My bad. BTW, I went out tonight and bought all the ingredients EXCEPT the spaghetti squash. Couldn't find any at the store. :(

  • @thespiswolf No problem... My recipe directions are always a challenge. It is easier to just cook than write down each individual step. I am going through a lot of my recipes now in trying to write a cookbook, and I am gaining new respect for cookbook writers.

  • You're going to ruin your metal pans using a metal wisk.

  • @thespiswolf This hard anodized aluminum pots should metal utensil safe.

  • hey, if it's riced cauliflower couldn't you make low carb risotto?

  • @MikroBadass There is someone on the Atkins Diet facebook page that did just that.

  • I never heard of adding cream cheese to Alfredo. This looks good but seems like a heart attack waiting to happen.

  • @gregoriodavila Cream cheese is not necessarily a traditional ingredient, but I think it improves the flavor and provides some fullness or richness in taste that butter, cream, and Parmesan don't necessarily give by themselves.

As for the heart attack, my heart risk factors have dropped to zero since starting Atkins Diet and eating foods like this dish.

  • Hey bowulf today I just stumbled upon your atkins recipes since I startet making my own cooking clips in english today and I was looking for some inspiration. What I really love about this recipe: butter :) Yummy - and I love everything with chicken. THX so much for your vids , great work I will watch me through all your recipes (well now I am hungry I guess...) damn no chicken in the fridge and it is sunday ...

  • @elitepowerTV :-) I just checked out your videos. Great start - I have to admit the German videos were simply a pleasure to listen to and try to catch the occassional word that years of college Dutch and a few weeks in Germany helped me understand. I am afraid both were too far in the past to catch more than that though.

I could catch enough though to know the major congrats you have coming. Keep up the great work!

  • @bowulf You have been a few years in germany? Hey that`s cool , how did you like your time in germany?

  • @elitepowerTV I was in Hohenfels, Germany for 3-4 weeks back in 1993 or 1994 when I was with National Guard.

While I was there for the military, we had 3 or 4 days where we got to tour the country like tourists. I really liked Munich and even the smaller towns like Regensburg. Of course that was in my high carb days, so I loved all the bakeries, walking through the towns, and of course the bars and hefeweizen. I'd really like to take my wife sometime and get to spend more time there.

  • @bowulf Oh yeah the bakerys here are sooo good - I ve never been to the US but I have heard that the bakerys there are a little diffrent :) Maybe you skip Atkins for a day or two to enjoy some of the nice stuff when you spend some time with your wife here :)

  • I must say bowolf, by watching ur videos, I'm becoming a better cook than I was a few years ago. Keep it coming God bless :)

  • @TheKashinshi I am glad I could help and return the favor others first paid me. Thanks for watching, and I should have more this week.

  • Try some chopped Jalapeno, and chopped Pastrami in the sauce. YUM!

  • @mykfox999 Those are interesting additions... I'll have to try them some time.

  • instead of using a cup of cream and a cup of water, couldn`t you just use 2 cups of whole milk?

  • @rlegear19 And have 24g of simple sugars (lactose) in the recipe as opposed to 3g? That does not seem like a wise trade.

  • OMG this was so good. Didn't have parmesan cheese so I used shredded mozzarella and cheddar. Used the squash in place of pasta. Yum yum yum! Thanks for sharing.

Question: Is it possible to make the sauce in bulk and freeze it in individual servings?

  • @2000S3000E I have never frozen the sauce, but I have stored for 1-2 weeks in the fridge. Another great use for it is the white sauce pizza recipe I just posted this week. You probably could freeze and gradually thaw it if you got most of the air out of the container to prevent ice crystals from forming.

  • I made this the other night, it was really good. Thanks for the recipe!

  • @Liz749 I am glad you liked it, and thanks for reporting the feedback.

  • LOL @ the chicken swiper! Great video! :)

  • My happiness Asian Beauties **lushfmlk.info**

  • i just made this and it was amazig!!! the spaghetti squash was genious!

  • @watchmeshrink20101 Thanks!

  • im cooking this tonight for suree!!!!! I also made ur fried rice and potsticker patties last night and they were amazing! thnks for all the great recipes

  • @danie142009 Glad you liked the recipes, and I should have a few more in the next week with Christmas vacations finally getting here.

  • I am excited about this recipe! I think being on a low carb plan I will be one of the only people at work that won't gain weight over the holidays and I get to eat rich yummy food! Thanks ken.

  • @vida130 I know I am glad I never have to worry about the holidays or the possible weight gain and still not feel deprived doing it. Best of luck!

  • I really enjoyed the video and will be making it in a few days when I expect to have guests visiting. I'd have liked more explanation of preparing the squash on the stove-top, but I'll probably go with the Faux rice cauliflower as you've covered that before and it is great. Btw, you rock!

  • @jhdincal Thanks for the kind words.

Preparing the squash is really no big deal. Cut the squash in half and remove the seeds and stringy mess like you would a pumpkin. Chop each half of the squash into half again to make it easier to cook. Cook the squash until really fork tender . It'll have to boil maybe 10-15 minutes to be done. At that point, drain the squash and then flake the insides with a fork.

That all said, the rice options is very good too. :-D

  • fat pig

  • @74917 Take care and God bless.

  • Thanx man for uploading these videos,,, u gave me variety of options..

But u look thinner in some of the videos uploaded during 2006 I think. did u quit then gained wait or what?? your response is mostly appreciated.

  • @medo405 No, I have been within 10 pounds or so depending on the time of year of my goal weight. During the winter in Iowa, I do gain a few pounds with inability to do as long workouts outside. I also do additional lifting during off-season from running marathons.

So no, 6 years of eating consistently has maintained my weight. The 2006 camera sucked compared to the new high def camera, so that may have a role in clarity too.

but it looks very nice and tasty....

  • @agronkis on a low carb diet, your body is fueled by fat, so this is not a low-fat diet. It is very healthy, and my annual physicals and blood work simply re-enforce that fact.

    Thanks for watching.

  • this video is making me sooooo hungry!!! lol

Day 1induction I'm to eat three meals right?no sugar I am going back to the store to get more veg and other healthier options so far I'm using tips fr the book (atkins) and sites like your self

  • @seanviv2 Three meals or as you are hungry... Dr. A suggests at least eating every 4-6 hours.

The hummus (chickpeas) is not Induction friendly, but the rest all should be.

    Best of luck!

  • @bowulf Thanks. I will eliminate the hummus for now...

  • Yummy thanks for the tips. I am now watching all of your videos and also PLEASE ignore those people with dumb and rude comments they are hiding behind a computer and are looking for a fight DON"T respond and they will go away. WE whom ask you for tips get your style..and you clearly use sanitary cooking practices WE will continue to watch.

  • @seanviv2 Sometimes the trolls are entertaining. I mean it's not always that I get criticized for having a PEN next to chicken. I know one shouldn't play with trolls, but sometimes I enjoy highlighting the shallowness.

I know by and large most people love the cooking style, and for those that don't. well they aren't invited to my next get-together. :-)

  • @Teltcher No, but dealing with idiot trolls like you does make me vomit a bit. Time to return to your bridge, troll.

  • I have used spaghetti squash for red sauce spaghetti before but never thought of using it in an alfredo recipe. I will give this a try!

  • Is your wife on the diet as well? How is it working as a couple?? When can we see her video? ; )

  • @wcwify Yes, she is on the diet, which is nice and simplifies dinners a bit. As for her appearing in videos, she is pretty clear that she is of a different personality than I am re: being video'ed.

  • wow but can u tell how many gram carbs it has and how many calories it has

  • @ssiddique1 Check out the video description -- it has all that information in there:

    "Nutrition Facts: (based upon 8)

    Calories 470, 38g Fat, 3.7g Total Carbs (.8g Fiber), 28g Protein"

  • HEY! I wanted to watch the butter melt! >:O

    Hahaha jk

    Nice work bowulf!

  • @MLee1692 Next time I'll make a recipe video just for you with all the parts left in -- including the waiting for water boil stage.

  • I just made this...Who needs the squash... YUMMmmmm it is fabulous. I ate plain, I chose not to add carbs ( squash) and made my husband angel hair pasta to put on... KUDDOS ...Fabulous..

  • @veesc I am glad you liked the recipe. :-)

  • i would've stabbed the camera lady if she would've continued stealing the chicken. plus, doesn't she know the filters would focus on the brightest object, that's why at the end the person was dark. either way, great video.

  • @lilprincekilla I am blessed enough to have her as a wife, so whatever her faults (poor camera skills) are outweighed by her positives. :-)

  • @bowulf

well, bless you, without the sneezing, but yeah, i didn't mean literally, i was kidding. but yeah, i went to school for television production. i thought you two would've known that that light is what catches the focus on the camera but yeah, i didn't literally mean it when i said i'd stab her. just like you said, she's stealing the chicken, you ain't literally mean steal (or did you). either way, no hard feelings, just sarcasm talking.

  • @lilprincekilla No offense taken at all. I know where you were coming from. :-)

  • Looks delicious. Does it taste as good as it looks?

  • @VelvetGold18 I certainly think it does.

  • Had this for supper tonight! I was skeptical of the spaghetti squash because I've never tried it before, but everything was delicious! So glad it made so much so I can have leftovers for a couple days. :) Thanks so much for posting this!

  • @hrtachevrymomnt88 I hear you. I was skeptical of spaghetti squash too. I am not a big squash or zuchini eater at all prior to Atkins, so I am sometimes amazed how far the tastebuds have swung. I am glad you liked the recipe.

  • @bowulf So the spaghetti isnt spaghetti?

  • @VelvetGold18 In this recipe it is spaghetti squash and pretty tasty.

  • Comment removed

  • @neicitafea What are you talking about? All the ingredients are Induction friendly, and acceptable in the amounts listed. The only comment Dr. Atkins had on high heat was to use oils with high smoke temps. Sorry I have done Atkins for 6 years, and I have no clue where you are coming from in your statement.

  • this sounds delicious.

  • Ah ha! There's the arrow and there are the notes. Thanks for the quick response. And, thanks for the delicious recipe. I'll be trying that soon!

  • @gdcleanfun

nice of you to point that out. that makes life much easier. i wouldn't have noticed that if you didn't post that comment.

  • The Alfredo sauce looks really yummy. Where do I find the show notes so I can print out the recipe? Thanks.

  • @gdcleanfun Click the down arrow underneath the 360p or 480p on the video player. That should expand the video description to show the ingredients as well as the nutrition information.

  • Another option to the pasta is you can get a canned bamboo shoot that is shredded very similar to the way spaghetti squash comes out. It is actually VERY close in taste and instead of having like 8 net carbs with half being sugar it has like 1 or so with none being sugar. I get it at a local Asian Market. Very good. Great videos by the way! Giving me some great ideas on foods to eat when splurging a little.

  • How about the pasta?? the pasta is carb

  • @raven1234 The pasta in this video was spaghetti squash which is allowed on all phases of the diet. I did refer to Dreamfield's pasta for those near maintenance phase, but that is lower carb pasta (they claim under 5g per serving, but I don't necessarily believe them). All the photos are of spaghetti squash though.

  • OMG !!!!!! This is low carb?! I could totally do atkins and eat food like this...look delish. I have to lose weight fast!

  • @oliviaolas Absolutely... That was my reaction. If I could eat this well and still lose 211 pounds, why would I want to do anything else.

  • how about tofu pasta thats just a protein

  • @mermer3m You could after Induction... I have tried Shirataki (konjac flour) and Tofu noodles in the past, but I am not a big fan of the taste.

  • @bowulf oh really :( i haven't tried them yet I thought they weren't supposed to have any taste.

  • @mermer3m You can certainly try them. I would suggest washing thoroughly and cooking them in the final product to mask or give flavor. Some people swear by them, but I am not much of a seafood eater either.

  • @bowulf ok thanks :D

  • this looks delicious!

  • @Markofitch You are missing the point of a ketogenic (high-fat) diet. The whole point is you are fueling yourself with fat. FYI - The correct amounts for a 1tbs of butter is 11g and 7g of saturated fats.

As to the saturated fats point of your post, the danger of saturated fats is greatly over-blown. My cholesterol and every single heart risk factor has dropped significantly for me since starting an Atkins diet, and this has also been demonstrated in scientific studies as well.

  • @Markofitch Eating or not eating butter has nothing to do with getting cut. Getting down to below 10% body fat is more about fueling the body and then using the fuel in exercise. Butter doesn't detract from that goal. If your sole goal is to drop all the fat in temporary phase, then sure eat extremely low Calories, and you get gaunt.

I wouldn't count on energy for fueling great workouts or running marathons like I do.

The body can only cannibalize itself for so long.

  • @bowulf Eventually it will wear down and stop altogether.

One final thing I am about a long term way of eating too. Not a cyclical eating style for some competition or looks. I am looking for permanent results with a permanent way of eating.

If you want a short term results to make yourself feel good or look good short term, do whatever you want. Good luck!

  • Comment removed

  • @Markofitch Great, happy you do marathons... Enjoy your fluctuating diet. As for my running marathons, it has everything to do with eating fat. The best marathoners in the world are the ones who can fuel their runs with both macronutrients and manage the glycogen depletion. I simply have eliminated the problem at mile 0 than mile 20 like most marathoners.

    Farewell.

  • @Markofitch Yes, I lost weight due to the butter, the wings, the sausage and all the rest of my high fat diet. In fact, I lost 211 pounds eating those high fat foods. You can find my Atkins Diet success story here on Youtube. Limiting the butter or the fat on a low carb diet only leads negative consequences. If you want to see the results of a low fat, low carb diet (which essentially becomes a really low Calorie Diet) and what can happen to its followers, google "Kimkins followers."

  • Wow! thanks for showing how to make the homemade sauce, thats always better than store bought! Good vid!

  • Hey bo for induction week can i eat banannas, i dont think bananas have many carbs
