  • You can drive one every day. I do.

Drive one and you'll never again think of a Boxster, or a Z4 as a sportscar.

"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

That's Lotus Efficient Dynamics. Everything else is just bollocks.

  • You guys should test the Ariel Atom

  • Espirit....., I love u

  • wow...I didn't think you could make the elise boring...but you managed to do it. Any review on the 2010+ Elise coming soon?

  • I have one for sale. It is a hard top convertible Lotus Elise 05 with 35k miles. Asking price is only $24,999

  • Why does every car video have 12 year old kids commenting on the performance and practicality of the car? You've never driven a car! And there is plenty of room for your Legos in the trunk. Go to the user pages of every retarded comment on this video. Videos of Grand Theft Auto, elementary school sleepovers and 20 minute videos of their dogs face.

  • Lotus needs a face-lift... URGENT!!! ha!

  • is it just me or this car is as sexy and tempting as some of the best supercars? (lamborghini, porsche)

  • Wtf? What the hell kind of review is this? No wonder This Blue Book crap is notorious for its bullshit, next!

  • pretty cheap lol id rAther get an escalade

  • @hamking97 lmao you are retarded for comparing an escalade to an elise

  • @mellowdalyricist i didnt bud you fucking retard

  • @hamking97 yes you did.. in your mind you compared both cars & decided that the escalade was better... so either you have the personality of a wet carrot for choosing a big slow suv (that isnt even off road capable) over a lightweight sports car.. or youre retarded.. choose one

  • @mellowdalyricist compared to both vehicles id choose a escalade u fucking downy

  • why would they review this car as a "Cruise car"? this is a performance and a damn good one!

  • robotic wasp??? wat is this guy smoking?

  • CAn you adjust the seat forward or vice-versa? i'm short. im only 5'6.

  • @Merts478 yes.. I'm 6'1 and manage in my lotus.

  • id like to see a colour that the elise doesn't wear brilliantly

  • @number9ninja yeah right.

  • Does this car have a clutch?

  • @JasonJ25 Yes, it has a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission with clutch.

  • @kbb come to think of it itd have to be if they wanted it to be lite wouldn't it?

  • this car is cool, but imagine an accident in this....no difference to a motorcycle or worse!!! the car becomes a coffin.

  • @joelopeztube Depends on the accident. Bigger and heavier vehicles carry more momentum, which can make an accident worse. Lightweight cars usually have the disadvantage in passive safety, but excel in active safety....

  • i got a booner when i saw this car for first time in a parking lot

  • i have a red lottus elise and i luv it.........to me i think its a wonderful car even though you cant put that much storage but i can get in it just fine and im not short at all but i got a hummer for a secondary car for wheather......also i never knew if hummers where good in wheather but when i drive it it does fine on snow, rain, and sleet, but i didnt watch the whole video cuz i got bored

  • bravo Elise!

  • Are all the lotus elise mecanical cars or are there any atomatic model

  • @raul1794

Lol! are you serious? Why on earth would you want a automatic box in an elise? And why would lotus fit one?

  • stupid. the car isn't even on the kbb website. FAIL.

  • i love the lotus. I like light cars.

  • this car accelerates fast.........

  • men that car is so beautiful!

  • Its a bit pricy, not very special power wise, not the greatest economy, and not the greatest looking for its price range, but the thing that really brings the car down for me is that there is no way it can be considered a practical car here in Canada especially with snow falling for at least 4 months a year.

  • but the handling and fun is immense

  • In all honesty if you like the car I can't really argue with that -_-'...what am I going to type?....But you don't ""really"" like it?

  • how is it pricy? its like what? 47,000?

a cruddy little z4 is more expensive than that

  • In Canada Lotus elise MSRP is $57,575 - $78,995 (normally costing around $65,000) $65,000 in quite pricey I think, especially for a car like that.

Z4 in Canada is $54,200-$62,000..normally around $58,000 which is $7000 cheaper + the badge on a BMW practically raises its price another $5000 that it does not deserve.

Compare the lotus to say a japenese small coupe or a small sports car which are normally half the price. To me that is the fair comparison.

  • fair enough, good argument. but that is in canadian dollars and also the lotus elise would be something you would be driving in down hollywood blvd. a z4 is something that kinda is boring and you even see them in northern wisconsin

  • In my opinion, the z4 I think gives the image of a very pompous young adult in a tight fitting shirt with a cocky attitude...I don't know what it is but that image has become synonymous with the M series BMWs and the z4.

The reality with cars is normally you get what you pay for..and if you didn't and the price was uncompetitive the car wouldn't sell.

So ultimately it all comes down to taste, what you look for in a car, and what your budget is.

  • @FearOfTheFlesh yeah i guess. it just suprises me that an elise is under 50 grand

  • @FearOfTheFlesh plus i think your getting the z4 look from the office with ryan lol

  • i've seen them on ebay for about 38 acually

  • lotus' or z4?

  • Lotus!

  • niether,a 370z

it has (almost) the performence of a lotus with (most) of the luxery of the z4.

  • @RnB123100

You mean power to wieght, the 370z has nowhere near the performance.

  • @srspower yea it does, lok up its 1/4mile.anyway know id take the new 5.0 mustand.it handles just as good as a 370z jet is faster in a strait line.

  • @RnB123100

No it doesn't. Like i said your confusing power with performance.

A mustang or a 370z might be lots quicker in a straight line but the elise would beat either of them by several seconds around any track you care to name.

  • @srspower yea.but the problem is u cant really live with and elise.its not practical.i perfer 2 have a fast and practical car.i know what power to rate is.example a gumpert appolo has300hp less than a veyron but would beat it on any track.

  • 47000 isn't cheap

  • yeah it is. for this nice of a car? my parents bought our volvo for like 42,000

  • your talking about money and how cheap everything is, but have yet to buy your own car. your PARENTS bought that volvo, you did not.

  • yeah but i also work my ass off so i can have this type of car and i dont spend my damn money on video games mr newgamereleases

  • lol point proven. btw despite the name I don't buy video games either. i really need a new account

  • fair enough. didnt mean to sound like a prick...sometimes the words fly out. But you must agree that a beautiful car like this is a pretty good deal.

  • i'll give you that. its too bad it lacks a lot of extras that many other cars of this price range has. but it makes up for it in performance.

  • @allah211

this is car is only 30,000. ANd 15,000 used off ebay my friend. the best car thats so cheap. Rapes your farrari anyday my friend. with a 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. My dads friends does it in 3.9 seconds

  • @Dazzeel

sorrry i was fucked up when i written that messege haha

  • @Dazzeel haha no problem man, im with you. the elise is an amazing car

  • @allah211

Thankyou, i will always love this car no matter how people treat it. Its fast, cheap and nice looking. And its small! So it could be easier to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Dazzeel, Please try to be objective. The Toyota 1.8 liter engine utilized by the Lotus Elise needs to be revved high to deliver real punch. Once past cornering limits the car is very hard to control. You also have to endure a harsh noisy ride, a tight austere interior, a clunky shifter and very difficult cabin access. The canvas top is a total nuisance to fold. All of this is contained within an automobile assembled with remarkable crudity.

  • Priced between $47,250.00 to $74,995.00 the Elise is no bargain. For my money the Chevrolet Corvette is a far better alternative.

  • @cernuous you can get a used one for like 25-30k....

  • @allah211 $47,000 is not a "like what", that is a lot of damn money!!! i just got done watching the kbb review for the saturn sky and with all options checked it was only $33,000 dollars!!! get your head out of your ass, name isn't everything. a crappy little "race car" is not worth that

  • sexy car ...from the front , this car look's smiling ..lol

  • i want one

  • Comment removed

  • 2zzge toyota celica gts engine 1.8 liter superchage= lotus elise...

  • YOUR REVIEW IS BORING...but informative

  • then watch top gear!

  • @00dekzta00 : Wow, ugly vehicle.

  • The 134bhp Elise S is as fast as a the base Porsche Boxster and the 189 bhp Elise R here is as fast as the Boxster S.

At least over here a Elise R is cheaper than the base Boxster and considerably cheaper than the Boxster S. (More than 10.000Euro cheaper)

And remember: Lotus has 7 F1 Constructors' Championships and a great history while Porsche makes ugly SUVs and saloon cars and has a history of designing tanks for Adolf Hitler.

  • Ugly SUVs and sedans? Your brain simply cannot comprehend art and design.

  • @nutroot

The Panamera doesn't look too bad (still haven't seen it in day light) but the Cayenne is one of the ugliest cars out there.

  • Actually, at first even I thought the panamera looked poor. But then I went to the Porsche showroom the other day, just to take a look at the Panamera. It was quite literally, AMAZING!!!! And with its new day time running lights, OMG, it not only looks majestic but also super sporty.

  • i mite buy 1 with my student loan!

  • i've done that. only comes back to hurt you....

  • How come??

  • @imnotsickimjustaboy That would be the most stupid and immature thing you could possibly do. Wait until you've got a decent education, and try to keep your loan to a minimum.

Oh well this was a car review afterall; Great car, i'd really, REALLY like to be driving one myself, unfortunately i'm a poor student as well. :)

  • it was just a joke lol, those kinda comments always get the most thumbs up.

  • were do you guys get your cars ?

were do you rent them ?

    Please respond.

  • Just buy them.

The elise is not an expensive car in the UK. You can get an earlier version of this model for £10k, although it doesn't have the coffee cup holder.

  • the lotus is 60,000 dollars in the states

  • i just saw this car at a parking lot in the mall. nice looking car

  • Comment removed

  • anyone think this is to much for a college student?

  • naw. i wanna get one too and i'm in college xD

  • ohh yea you gotta pay off college to :D

  • pssshhhh no. Only if YOU can afford it. Or if you deserve it with exceptional grades lol :)

  • I Finally saw a Lotus Elise on the road today!

After a long time wishing. (I have a Corvette)

We were at opposite stoplights. He was first in line, so he kind of punched it.

I saw it drive past me, and heard that engine red line.

I kind of had high expectations of the sound - it sounded like an Asian tuner, which is bad, if you ask me.

As for seeing the body in person, it looks pretty cool - but not in line with exotic Italians.

  • Get one second hand and stick a k20a engine in it - they sound much better and are a lot faster.

  • slow..

  • Slow, are you having a laugh.

There is not many cars under £30k that are quicker.

Only ones that spring to mind are the evo and the Impreza.

  • i think this car is mainly about pure fun. i wouldnt mind having it for kicks. but not for daily driving. its not that expensive either though. i like alot of power since im a camaro type of guy. but i think i would have fun with this car too. and im small so size the small size is fine lol

  • "Quick illuminating LED tail-lights" LOL - 'cause them lighbulbs just take way too long! I had the chance to sit in one the other day, I didn't. The dealer would have needed to call an ambulance or fire truck to get me back out! 6'3", lotus elise, and arthritis are a bad combo!

  • What cars does this compete with?

  • I don't really think it competes with anything. Its a very unique car for its price and there isn't really anything similar.

For the price it is a fantastic car, I have the earlier 111s model and would highly recommend it, although don't buy too many, I like the exclusivity.

  • porsche, mr-s (mr2 spyder)

  • Porche what? and what is an mr-2?

  • most likely the older porche 911's and the Toyota MR-Spyder....the Lotus elise has the same chassis as the toyota mr2....also they have different engines but they are both toyota engines.

  • The Elise/Exige and ZZW30 MR-2 have no parts in common.

The Elise/Exige chassis is aluminum that is glued together.

The WWZ30 MR-2 chassis is steel and welded together.

  • zzw30 is the correct chassis code... Its been a long day...

  • i was talking about the AW11 1984 MR2 vs. the 111 lotus elise.

    Thx for the info though!

  • HATE it.....

(kit car with a Toyota motor - WTF happened to Lotus?)

  • I think they are far better off now than they were with the ROVER motor. And considering that Lotus has had a history of using different motors in their cars it's not completely out of character. The Toyota motor is a good damn motor, and the new supercharged models really make the car a screamer!

  • i think this car.. either people LOVE it or HATE it .. no in between lol...

  • @fastmoneyproductions dont believe everything u hear.Evora, much faster? i dont think so, lighter? noway man..

  • man you can buy a corvette for 60,000.. and a corvette is way faster..!!!

  • ya but i want a car that isnt very comon i see corvettes every day ive only senn 1 elise in real life

  • Yah, but a corvette has the shitiest ride in the world, and no handling.

  • Have owned and driven one for the last 12 months. Awesome fun car.

  • im getting the evora in 2010, the elise is nice but the evora is rumored to be much faster and lighter.

  • THe Evora is more luxury than the Elise...it will be heavier and probably slower. That said, it is getting wonderful reviews and the Evora looks like it will be a hit.

  • Now thts a car

  • its pretty bare-bones for the $

  • youcdtube you can't be that stupid. You are just trying to piss people off. The RX-8 can't do one thing better than an Elise. You are just jealous because you can't afford an Elise.

  • Comment removed

  • Go for it man. The big down side will be the insurance though, I'm 23 and the only reason I didn't buy and elise is because the insurance was rediculous. I bought a mini cooper S JCW instead. You need 9 years of driving to get the good insurance rates...

  • Can I ask what the quote was?

  • no first 370z, rx-8, 350z, then g something or the other and finally your lotus elise in order of performance both acceleration and handeling! memorize this list dude!

  • lol you're nuts, you're just being annoying on purpose because nobody is that stupid.

  • If I start saving now should I get this for my first car when I am 18-19 in 3-4 years?

I am not rich but I am willing to work my ass off.

  • you better get a mustang gt; this car is spartan and not a daily driver. It looks exotic but the interior is about as luxurious as a base model 1990s ford escort. People who get this generally tend to have 2-3 other commute cars.

  • did u drive porsche?ferrari? i dont think so..this is a lux car

  • that's idiotic, this thing isn't anywhere close to being luxurious.

What makes it luxurious? The cupholder?

  • Its not a car meant for luxury. Its meant to be lightweight, have great handling, be fun to drive, and have great performance. Maby elorlandop meant it was luxurious due to its sporty feel; it may be considered a luuxury to people who enjoy cars like the elise.

  • Yep, I'd much rather own a cadilac.

  • go for it dude...everybody has a mustang

  • well this is a track car, mustang is a heavy car with slightly more hp than normal sedans.

  • get your head out of your A hole bud! My Rx-8 took on and beat a 2002 camaro ss on the highway and will eat for breakfast a bug like lotus elise any day of the week. Rx-8 has a 50/50 weight distribution and this is the reason why so eat dust on that!

  • Are you sure the camaro was not a base camaro bc you are smoking something if you believe what you just said

  • The seats dont recline, the stereo doesn't work when driving. wtf

  • @ wakaqas, they are probax seats, they use air instaed of foam. to save weight and air fits better around the body then foam. the stereo does work, but you have too much noise of the car to use it properly. Specialy on the highway...

Btw, Rx-8 is a real nice car. i like the 1.3 rotary engine but believe me. I've driven them both on track and road. The lotus wins big time. The lotus stays more balanced in the corners. But the Mk1 version of the elise is more tailhappy then the Mk2 (4 safety)

  • I did 145 and still accelerating with room at the peddle and easily out performed as far as handling and braking goes a stock 2002 Camaro ss so I know from experience that the rx-8 will handle just as well if not better than the lotus elise any day of the week budy!

  • With respect, you are talking shit. Have you driven an Elise?

  • I have a RX-8 and an Elise and the Elise will rape the RX-8 in every category. The RX-8 is a great car but nothing compared to the Elise.

  • I have an RX8 (231 variant) and that's total *&&*. The RX is a fantastic car but no way is is better than the Elise.

The RX is slower to 60 and will "dig in" when cornering fast / tight. The elise doesn't do this and has much more tactile feedback.

  • don't be an idiot. The lotus accelerates 0-60 in 5 seconds flat while the rx8 will be lucky to pull low 6s. The lotus also weighs 1/3 less, and has better suspension and tires. Lotus>370z>350z>g35>rx8

  • what a rip off that car is junk

  • my RX-8 CAN OUT HANDLE TH lOTUS ANY DAY!

  • its a lot bigger aswell and more expensive!

  • Ahhhh, but the Lotus will get ya laid way faster.

  • What!!!!!!! an rx-8 can definitely not out handle an elise. the elise weighs a billion lbs less and is mid engined. plus the elise is slower, so it's easier to control, and from what i've heard, at limits the rx-8 has a lot of body roll. However, the rx-8 is still an awsome car and cost 20k less than the elise

  • Well.. That's like saying spanners are strong and houses look roomy but heavy and cement is absolutely better than grasshoppers so i think i'm gonna get me a tomato.

  • Heh, that's funny as shit!

  • Price of the Ferrari Enzo, $700 000 with 660hp

Price of the Lotus Elise SC, $54 990 with 218hp

So then by using cross multiplication we can calculate the dollar cost per 1hp for each car.

Here are the results rounded to the nearest dollar.

For the Enzo you are paying $1 061 per 1hp.

For the Elise you are only paying $252 per 1hp.

My point, the Ferrari is a beautiful car however in a world where we are all struggling to make ends meet the Lotus is way better value for the money.

  • i wouldn't spend 70,000 on an enzo because you get a pretty skimpy interior for that price. I'd rather spend 20k less tobuy a discontinued masrati mc12 because it's based on the enzo, but nicer inside, and in my opinion looks cooler.

  • it's like a pimped miata

  • It's fast, it's light, and it's got a cup holder.

    What else could you want?

  • Hearing the stereo while in motion is an indulgence? LOL.

  • he forgot to mention that power steering is not an option people! this will prep you in time to head over to the gym or just give your arms a daily work out.

Either way, The Lotus elise, is beautiful...not sure if i can live without all of the features a "normal" car would have but then again, this isnt a normal car. im 5'5 so i guess entering it wouldnt be a problem lol but could this Lotus be used as a daily driver? wins me over in the style department, just not sure if its practical.

  • he sorta mentions it when he says its very hard! to turn at parking speeds, lol

  • The car has very few standard features. They need to give the Elise more features.

  • What's missing?

  • A lot of standard features.

The Honda Accord is more upscale than that!

  • U can have aircon, electic windows, leather, carpets, even a cup-holder(!).

That's already a lot. (The original Elise had none of these things)

The problem is, that all of this adds weight. An Elise with all kinds of luxuries like fully adjustable seats or sat-nav would come close to 1tonne. That just wouldn't be a Lotus anymore.

  • yea that's true

i just thought that would the lotus would be significantly less expensive than it is, considering the lack of power, 4-cylinder engine, and lack of upscale amenities

  • yeee my dad has one of these. It comes with pretty mucht he most useless sun visors you'll ever see and a non adjustable passenger seat. But fuckkkk is it ever fun to drive.

  • i love elise (L) it's the best car in the world,,its light fast en it looks beautiful!

  • Elise is a great car, but best in the world? Any Mercedes AMG or Italian Sports Car thumps this on the head.

  • The Elise is one of the worlds best handling cars.

  • 189 horsepower 1.8 liter V4

    0 to 60mph in 4.9 seconds

Air conditioning and leather-wrapped steering wheel

Ok, no Mercedes AMG or luxury Ferrari or anything, but an entertaining little car

    21mpg city, 28mpg highway

Pathetic. For a car that light, I was expecting 23-27mpg city and 30-33mpg highway.

  • No such thing as a "v4" just inline 4.

  • oh lol

how come there are no v4's? there are v6's, v8's, v10's, and v12's

  • Basically just because there too small. It would essentially be a square shape.

  • thanks for your help

  • No problem.

    Have A Good One.

  • fuel economy is due to gearing. without that gearing the elise wouldn't pull the 4.9 0-60 time. it's the same reason why a 500lb, 2 cylinder motorcycle usually gets 40-50 miles per gallon

  • Pathetic gas mileage for a motorcycle, but you're right. Gearing defines that fuel economy disadvantage.

  • I don't see or hear to much about those cars.

  • Can you review the Tesla Roadster, based on the Lotus Elise?

  • i love the elise..i want one

  • you can use it every day... if you don't have to drive 100 miles to work.
