My favourite place on a Sunday off work was the graveyard, lots of deep snow, snow covered trees and 'settler era' gravestones with photos and surrounding fencing, lovingly welded together from reinforcing steels. It really made me think about the early oil era settlers and the hardships they went through. Not so sure about the state, but I'm happy to say "Long live the Russian people!"

I was there in the 'mild' winter of 2004/2005. It only got down to -37C. Enough to momentarily freeze my eyelashes together when I blinked. The funny thing was that before it froze (I arrived there in September), I used to see a traffic accident (or the aftermath of one) every day on my walk from the hotel to the office. Once it froze good and proper, I never saw another accident. Strange, eh?
