I love this look. I've done it a couple times.

But, I was actually commenting about the shadows themselves. They do stay together in a stack without the plastic. If you take the lids off they should screw onto the bottom of the other ones. I don't have this particular brand. But, I have a ton of shadows that are in these little square shapes and they all have the screw thing on the bottom to stay together.
