  • Is basically means Godmouth's daughter (this is a name used in Scandinavia), correct?

  • byerk guthmundsdouttir

  • Bierk gutmonsditir

  • They're both so cute! :3

  • So 90's loft chic

  • it is something like...

    goomnumsdohtiegh...

    :s

  • I really love the icelandic language its very cool sounding in my mind and i especially love your cool letters like ð & þ .

  • Thanks for uploading. :) And Bjork looks so cute in this video!

  • This guy is kinda stupidish...

  • Cool! I've always wanted to know her second name!

  • also the "r" at the end is rolled, but not voiced, like whispering a spanish "r" loudly. (and don't forget to put the accent on the first syllable "guð")

  • @600euros Icelandic has a different 'R' than Spanish, is why. It is more elegant! ^^ Though it is not just whispered, it is slightly different in the mouth, as well. I think it is similar to the 'R' used in Flemish, where I come from! :)

  • it would be like: GOOTH-muns-dough-ter ð=TH like in "THis" (not like "THanks"), muns=like "moons" said quickly(short "u"), dó=dough like "doughnut"

  • @ILuvBritLouTayTay

In fact Dóttir means "daughter" in Icelandic ^^.

  • I remember doing a project on her in music class and I couldn't pronounce her name. If only I had found this video sooner. :/

  • Shes still so cute ^_^

  • sound like gumundstortisch

  • She speaks perfect English in the interview... I cannot find the link to the whole interview... could anyone help? Thanx!!!

  • " É só falar...RUMUNSDOTHER..QUE DÁ CERTO...TENTA AÍ...!!!""

  • anybody else still having trouble figuring out how to pronounce it?

  • no , but im from sweden ,and it's similar to icelandish.

  • @smorkaka Yeah, Swedes are closely related to Icelanders. However, Icelandic is almost Old Norse due to the isolation for centuries.

  • *Gudmund

    sorryyy

  • I guess Gudmundsdóttir means "daughter of Dudmund" or something like that. It's almost unpronounceable for Latin speakers.

  • its is, the traditional icelandic names are almost everytime ''daughter'' or ''son'' of someone

  • yeah it looks hard to pronounce. but here's the thing, in Icelandic and most other Scandinavian languages the letter "ð" is not pronounced as a "d" even though it looks like one. it's pronounced as a "th". i always say her last name is "guth-munst-dot-tear"

  • Well, it's really hard, @DullMirror !

  • I don't care. Bjork is Bjork and it's what matters.

  • no, it isn't.

  • Honey, pick up a bjork cd (if you have one) and read the name. Or try googling gvuðmundsdóttir and see what you get. Oh, what's that? No results? How strange. You can sell that story to someone else.

  • @thetinar thats because you put a "v" in ... you said "gVu"..when its just "gu" dumbass

  • @Nappy133 read the whole convo please, before you start calling people names. I was correcting someone who claimed the name was spelt "gvuðmundsdóttir ".

  • @thetinar oh ok xD sorry then! :P

  • @Nappy133 ahh, it's ok, such are the charms of the new youtube layout... nothing makes sense here anymore.

  • @thetinar indeed!!....doesnt excuse my ignorance...but INDEED! =D

  • mystery solved.

    thanks

  • English phonetic: "Gwimnschtottisch". Pronounce "gwimn" as one syllable, with the m and n together. Realize also that all languages have "shortenings" and "contractions" of words and names, so although this isn't a technical pronunciation, its a fair approximation of a common use pronunciation. i.e how you might hear it on the street.

  • I believe the Icelandic ð is pronounced like the English voiced 'th', as in 'the', and þ is an unvoiced 'th', as in 'think'.

I love languages and I'd love to learn Icelandic one day. Who knows, maybe I'll even have the opportunity to practice it with Björk. ;-)

  • Haha;D That would be cool .

I agree, could be so nice to learn icelandic!

  • @Conway79 yes that's right and the "tt" is pronounced as a kind of aspirated "tl" ; so it's guthmundsdotlir more or less. it literally means Gudmund's Daughter as they are a patronymic society.

  • gudmunstojtir

  • It like she's an alien. She has no idea how counter-cultural she comes across to us. Her last name is cool. She just goes by "Bjork", but even the last name is cool.

  • Bjork is liquidy coolness, in the shape of a womanly girly girl.

  • björk guðmundsdóttir

  • OH MY GOD CUTEST THING EVER!

  • jaja she is so cuteeeee D:

  • OMG AJAJA IS MY LINE!

  • my mom lived on iceland shen she was 15-20 she was trying to learn me a bit, and i got the accent. but its really hard.

  • Cool!

  • Gooth (th in "the" and "that" and "with" not "think") moons doe (as in dough) tir (short i) r is highly aspirated and it sounds like "sh" but it isn't. just flap your tongue and breathe out a lot.

  • hahaha, i wish every language had an opportunity for you to 'flap your tongue and breathe out a lot'

i think i want to do this more often.

    Eg love Islanska. :P

  • No its some times after the mother.

  • painfully cute.

  • For people that are interested, the naming system in Iceland is that our last name is our father's first name. Like Björk Guðmundsdóttir, is the daughter of Guðmundur. Her father's name is Guðmundur (something)son (maybe Jónsson, Eiríksson or something, I don't know), and that means he is the son of (his father'S name)

    :D

  • Það hefði verið nóg að segja: In iceland we got a patronymic naming system.

  • Jámm... bara vissi ekki hvaða orðið var XD Takk fyrir :D

  • Það var ekkert.

  • @IcelandAnimeGirl I know you posted this one year ago, but thanks for the little lesson! It's very interesting to know! It's actually pretty strange (strange for me because I'm not from Iceland), but it's fun to know :).

  • Guðmundsdóttir is not that hard well it is easy for me because i speak icelandic.

  • I always said Guth-munds-dou-tir D;

  • Haha ok anyone else wanna have a go at spelling it phonetically? Really, this is getting a bit silly. It's in the video! Doesn't get any clearer than that.

  • Goodh-moon-dsdot-teer (dh is pronounced as TH in the word THat)

  • Or for the French people:

    goudh-mound-dsdottir

    Spanish

    gudh-mund-sdotir

  • goot-moons-dote-ish

  • i like it when she wiggles around in the "bean bags of love" hahhah i also like her last name...i cant really prnounce it but it sounds cute

  • He name means Gudmunds daughter, Gudmund is an old scandinavian name..

  • I can pronounce her name right, since I'm norwegian! Bjørk Gudmundsdottir :D

  • Congratz

  • Gvoothmoonsdotur is how her name is pronounced. ð is th and u is like vu so gvoothmoonsdohtur

  • WEEEEWW! I like saying her last name. I call her Beeyork even though I know it's Byerk. Beeyork is easier to say for me.

  • DER he's just messing around for fun..

  • Gooth moons dothirr

  • Its like "goo monds dot tear"

  • Crazy name.. hahahaha

  • the dottir bit is pronunced similar as daughter right?

  • I'm brazilian and I have problems to pronounceit...

  • Sure they can, they just have to concentrate haha.

  • He isn't English, he is Australian...just because one lazy mofo cant prenounce it, doesnt mean everyone who speaks english cant do it

  • I guess cos the way she pronounced it was a bit airy, it was almost like n "h" or "s"... add to that the fact he is English... ;)

  • he's australian

  • "ish" as in "sort of"

  • mine's harder and tops all of yours

  • wow... and i though my name was confuzing

    nadezhda dmitrievna repina

yes, i put my name on the inet. who cares, not like someone will actually stalk me

  • I will.

  • At last?

    Quite interesting.
