  • this form of training is really hard after some time when you get 5 angels to atack and speed up. we do it with shinais and the last time it was so fast i couldn't read his movements anymore and got hit at my head. It would have been hard if it was a real Bokken xD

  • at the end they look like they're going edge to edge... or what would be with live blades... or am i seeing things? and yes i know edge to edge is the worst way to defend

  • Do you block with the side of the blade (the flat side)?

  • I attended iaido a few days ago for the first time and was taught in many times more detail the etiquette towards the sword, particularly the handling of the sageo. I was astonished to see the 'playfight' at the end! Can anyone recommend a detailed video regarding the bowing in/bowing to the sword with emphasis on handling the sageo?

  • I agree, HidaBiff; anyone who has not read of him, the creator of the Book of 5 Rings, should seek him out...and his famous duel wooden bokken vs sword to become the greatest samurai of Japan; the history channel made a great documentary of him.

oh, and as for these 'karate guys', commenting is pointless; every aspect of it is amatuer, from ettiquette to hand/foot positioning to line of sight. Everything is of the poorest demeanor for one to be called an Artist of the Martial Way. they r not

  • If you are questioning the bokken's effectiveness as a weapon in its own right, check out the life of musashi miyamoto, the most famous kensei...

  • Suihei I can see, but those two lower cuts? Are you trying to actually cut at the ankles or just striking bokken together?

  • The block cancels out the cut. That is why it never hits the ankle . Also the defender is backing up to avoid the cut .He is then putting his sword in the way of the attackers sword so that the sword never reachs him.

  • ... treat the bokken like a live blade at all times. put it under your armpit, you loose a arm.

  • that's true..

  • Get real! It just a boken. The difference between the two is great . I don't think that I would mistake a boken for a live blade.

  • @emdog2564

    That is your obinion.

  • ooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkk
